You really want a Jordan Magee to show something this year. Otherwise, you are potentially looking at a situation where we need two possible replacements at LB next offseason, assuming Wagner is done after ‘25.

I think LB is a sneaky position where we possibly take someone a little higher than we fans expect come April, especially if there is someone they like in round 2 or 4.

I know we are all focussed on Edge, CB, RB, and another IOL, but they might view LB as a potential long term priority, especially given that a player selected there can instantly contribute on Teams in ‘25 while understudying in the LB room.

OG's are up next and then 5 tech/43 DE's - just saw we signed Wise. I love that signing he one of my favorites from a few years back. Solid in both run and pass rush IMO. Wise is 30??? Good God time sure flys by. Yeah, I'm not sure why Bam Scott is not higher rated. He's good.

JT Tuimoloau reminds me a bit of Wise.

Intriguing guy for me at edge is David Walker from FCS C. Arkansas. Won Buchanan award, 23 TFLs, 10.5 sacks, 55 pressures just last year. Been a 3 year standout. Superior athlete, but not prototypical size. Could be a late round gem.

I admit that I only learned of him a few months ago but I'm also intrigued. Many have said that his shorter stature can also be a good thing: low center of gravity is difficult for really tall tackles to bend and then block. We'll see. He's also a crazy athletic specimen.

That’s kinda my draft thing…find off the radar kind of guys that could be hidden gems. Another guy I like is IOL Jackson Slater. Played at Sacramento St. 3 time all-conference, 3rd team all-American in 22’, first team all-American 24’. On tape he just dominates in both run and pass sets, and plays angry. Most mocks I see have him 6th round to UDFA. If I’m a GM looking for a guard late, he is defo on my radar.

Curious to get others take, but I don’t see a ton of difference between Scourton, Jackson, Umanmielan, Sawyer and Tuimoloau, and then there are some intriguing guys like Burch, Gillotte, etc later. There are differences of course, but somewhat depends on what we’re looking for. Point being, I’m not sure trading down hurts our chances too much at a quality DE option?

I have Scourton in a tier above the rest of the names you mentioned. Go watch his 2023 tape at Purdue - that is more what he is going to look like in the NFL. Will come into the league with a bag of moves already, plays with effort and is solid against the run. I think he is the next Latu/Karlaftis/Kerrigan - probably won't be a superstar but will be a guy who is in the Pro Bowl conversation every year.

Jackson feels unrefined as a pass rusher, Umanmielan can't play the run, Sawyer may not have the athletic juice and Tuimoloau gives of JAG vibes

This is why I believe we should trade back (if AP doesn't make the deal for Hendrickson as Cincy appears to want to much for him in a trade) and get the best DE at #33 or a tad lower in the 2nd. AP ends up w/two 2nds and a 3rd or two 2nds and a 4th, approximately after trading our 1st. Depending on how far we fall, most of these DE's will be there (Scourton, Jackson, Umanmielan, Sawyer and Tuimoloa) and some ranked higher may fall.

Regardless of a trade like Hendrickson where draft picks are given up, I believe AP will be trading back to gain more later day 3 picks to bring in competent competition for Backus and future potential starters and contributors. They are needed across the lineup and will give future cap relief as we build the lineup with youth

The sweet spot in the draft to me for good teams are Rounds 2-4.

Teams like New England and KC in their runs feasted on getting cheap starters in those rounds.

Thats what bothered me a bit about Sinnott and McCaffrey in 2024, I didn’t expect them to be pro bowlers but I thought they would be visible contributors and not merely spot depth.

Yeah, I have hopes they can make a sophomore leap, but I wanted more especially out of McCaffrey. Sinnott has the excuse of Ertz just being Jayden's favorite and Bates solidifying that Donnie Warren role. Luke needed just to be better than OZ, Crowder, and Noah Brown... and he couldn't do it. He couldn't earn snaps.

The weird thing is, I always kept hearing about how McCaffrey was opening, but for whatever reason Jayden never found him and even weirder, McCaffrey was the one player whose throws from Jayden often felt off target which makes me think he wasn't where Jayden expected him to be or where he expected him to get to.

Brown is a good piece to have. At 6’4 and 218 he’s strong and blocks like a TE. In the passing game he always seems to draw flags on smaller opposing corners.

Agreed - It seems like he would have been vying for a much larger contract had he not had health issues last year (which seemed largely flukey). Definitely worth keeping at the cost they paid.

Yeah, I think Scourton is a step above these guys as well. Would be happy to get him.

Was just talking to my son about this, and I think you hit on the most likely issue - Mcaffrey’s route running not being precise enough - to explain what we saw (or didn’t see). McCaffrey being new to the position, a rookie, and in a new scheme backs up that theory. IMO, he’s clearly very intelligent and a hard worker, he looked good as an returner, and his quickness still allowed him to get open often, so I think the future’s still bright for him.

You aren’t wrong. To be fair, with our reliance on hurry up I feel like you need skill players who know the entire playbook and exactly where to be for their rookie WR. And those three WR’s you named, while not studs or even good starters, have a TON of experience between them. They may have been just what a rookie QB needed. Rookie skill players usually have packages of plays for them that they’re more comfortable with, but that’s tougher to pull off when you go hurry up so heavily and need to get plays off fast and without too many subs

Check the games again. We had 2 losses by last second field goals and another overtime game that was almost a tie. Those could easily be reversed with better players making a play here or there.
