Well, we could restructure Terry McLaurin and Daron Payne and come up with a lot of additional cap room for 2025 and go for a big hitter.
Peters and Quinn evidently are not that type of duo in terms of burning the tires to get from Point A to Point B.
Under the cap ALL teams eventually start paying for their largesse given out and often it comes as the result of a great player who comes in and just by luck happens to get hurt and isn't able to get back on the field.
Then the team is screwed and they have to cut good players to pay out the cap.

I also wouldn't give up a 1st for him, given how much his contract will be. That said, he actually just turned 30 in December. And I wouldn't minimize how good he is. He consistently manhandled opposing LTs even though he was the only good player on that DL. He's not amazing against the run, but he's decent. He's an elite DE. There's a reason he was first team All-Pro.

Agree. But Howie seems to be a master at cap manipulation. And they just won a Super Bowl doing it.
Breer said on 106.7 today that while Cincy wants a first, he doesn’t think they will get one and expects the deal will be for a 2nd.

So….the plan is to play Kinlaw at end and Goldman at DT on first/run downs and move Kinlaw inside on passing downs? Makes the Kinlaw signing look a lot better. Still leaves a need for rush edge on passing downs though. Too bad Fowler got an attitude up his ace.
I’m still worried about CB more than most. They have no depth, they hope to play 20 games again and I can’t see Lattimore making anywhere near a full season.

I don't see AP giving up that 1st. He wants to use that to trade back land accumulate one or two more picks

Based on that I am not too enamored with the idea of acquiring a slew of 30 year old players on big contracts and dealing picks.
We acquired Laremy Tunsil at 30 and he's one of the best at his position. We gave up a picks last year to acquire a guy that was a pro bowler and all-pro in the past in Marshon Lattimore who is turning 29.
We have Terry McLauren and Deebo, both 29.

I want to see a younger roster full of draft picks that are cheap and outperform their contracts over the next couple of years.
I want our own Jared Verse from the 2025 draft, a pass rushing DE we can get cheap for 3-4 years before we have to pay him and a guy with a high end motor.

just got home from work so pardon for my interjection when it looks like most have moved on from the Tunsil debate. folks, this was about as good of a move as we could've expected. there is a low probability this is just a 2 year rental. good left tackles have a longer shelf life and Tunsil would have to completely shit the bed to not get an extension next season, imo. Tunsil is better than anyone else that was on the free agent market this year. Ronnie Stanley might be the closest, proven commodity but he's had an injury problem the last few years. Cam Robinson is meh. Alaric Jackson is young and promising but mostly unproven. so we would've been paying a bigger contract to an inferior LT or we roll the dice and hope that a LT falls to us at the 29th spot.

We have a 2 year window to win a SB while JD is on his rookie deal and before we have to devote a substantial portion of the cap to him. I'm ok with bringing in some immediate help players for now.
