The 2025 Free Agency Thread

Joey going to play with his brother, assuming they get along better than my kids, makes all the sense in the world. I'd assume that is going to happen until it doesn't.

As to SF, Keim mentioned Hargrave as a maybe. If I had to guess 1 SF player, its Hufanga. From what I read he wasn't just drafted by Peters but also was one of his favs -- culture guy, play maker, etc. But yeah I'd love it if they signed C. Ward.

Could be. Not saying every signing has a leak attached to it. But I've not heard a single leak on that player. I've heard random narratives that they should be interested but that's different. But heck not every player last year had a leak tied to it. Keim usually has his best inside info early on Monday FA day, so will see.

Makes sense from the players perspective. For a team that seems to be doing a reset I’m not sure it makes much sense from the 49ers point of view.

With his health, this is going to be a short, cheap deal. That's my guess.

Underrated player, arguably had a better career than Payne at smaller pay and hype

I've been beating up on Payne some on this thread but mainly just to make a point about needs. Payne IMO right now is a B minus 3 technique. And a C minus 0-1 technique when he plays that.

We need a dude who can stuff the run up the middle. the problem last year wasn't ONLY the edges. We could get gashed up the A gap, too

 
SF's beat guy for the Athletic. It might mean nothing but the one SF FA he tied to Washington-Peters was Hufanga

4. S Talanoa Hufanga​

Hufanga might not earn top-tier safety money like Antoine Winfield and Xavier McKinney got in last year’s free-agent cycle given that he’s coming off a pair of injury-plagued seasons. But his age — he turns 25 next month — and previous production could command a contract that averages between $6 and $8 million, which might be more than the 49ers are willing to pay. The 49ers’ secondary seemed to sharpen when Hufanga returned from a wrist injury in December. A number of teams could use his savvy in their secondary. When the 49ers drafted Hufanga in 2021, he earned a rare “gold helmet” designation, meaning he excelled in areas like performance, leadership and intelligence. One of the officials who raved about Hufanga at the time was then-assistant general manager Adam Peters, who’s now the GM in Washington.
 
There are enough pass rushers on the market.
Any chance someone can release a few LT’s?
 
I wonder if AP would have interest in DE Smith. I would think he wouldn't command an absurd contract and would fit a need.

Smith feels like a good backup option if Fowler wants too much money. Market has a fair bit of edges so hopefully the guys not on the top end get pushed down in cost a bit.

Probably also reflective of what teams think of the incoming draft class, which at first glance is very deep at the higher end with edge talent.
