The 2025 Free Agency Thread

Currently there is a strong CB FA class. Peters could plan on filling that hole early. Especially with many of their top OL and DL targets already off the board. I am also expecting him to bring in one or two second tier players like a DT early tomorrow.
DJ Reed springs to mind.

John mentions Trade for Hendrickson first so I have to believe the order he mentions in this X post is the order he believes AP goes in. We shall see. I believe to that Hendrickson give us the best honest days work.

I gather the Garrett deal adds urgency to Cincy to deal him. It might up the price for Hendrickson and it adds more to them putting their foot in their both for saying J. Chase will be the highest paid nonQB in the league.

It might up the contract price but lower the trade price if Cincy needs to move him to get the space to do a deal with Chase.

Yeah exactly, By upping the price, I mean his contract not trade value. Also if teams spend 15-20 million or so on some edges this week, it could depress the market for Trey some.

He is definitely one of them. Ward has been mentioned a lot. I like Adebo. If Okuda could stay healthy, there are really a number of them though

I think am good at cracking Keim code, not that its complex.

In his various tweets, I take it as:

A. Heck yeah they are interested in Hendrickson
B. They are good with paying him big money
C. They aren't giving up a first rounder no matter what

This is the kind of move I’d love over a short fix like Mack.

Yeah me too but I'd be happy with Mack, too -- national writers seem to think he's going to get a big pay day. Mack ironically might end up cheaper. But the way the edge market is going what's expensive now is likely going to look cheap soon.

We'll see how it plays out, but I think Chaderious Ward might be the first FA signing unless the money is ridiculous. Had a personal tragedy in his life last year, admitted his mind was never right, and wants to get out of California.

Peters was with the 49ers when they drafted him, and there are a whole lot of connections.

This would seem to be the perfect landing spot in terms of FO and coaching staff for a good player who needs a supportive environment.

If I'm right about that, then that fills a pretty big hole, with Ward, Lattimore and Mikey S. as your top 3 DBs. They might bring back Noah I. as depth as well.

To me, that's the first move which makes all the sense in the world for both sides.

Then they can focus on edge and OL, specifically OT, with either additional trades, FAs or the draft.

(PS: and a reminder there is a trade thread so the trade stuff can go there, and not straddle the FA and draft threads. :) )

If so its gone below Keim's radar. Having said that Keim's most on point tweets are typically the morning of FA. His attention seems to be focused on D line, O line, Wr.

But for me I'd like that signing.

This also puts some pressure on us to get a deal done with Terry. May push us out of the Hendrickson market depending on what he asks for.

The downstream effects of Garrett will play out over the coming weeks, months, and years, but it's a huge jump, 4.5M AAV beyond Crosby's extension. Obviously this directly impacts a Hendrickson deal, but he might still be worth the 30+M he wants. Guy's a monster and good DL players tend to have long careers (see Mack, Miller, Calais "older than dirt" Campbell) so a 130M/4 might not be the worst thing in the world.

But if Cinci follows thru with their promise to Chase, then the WR market is gonna jump.

Personally, I'd love to make Terry a lifer. Would be fine with like a 5 year deal that gives us some flexibility into years 4 and 5. Moss played until he was 35 and slowly took on less work as he aged. Terry could probably do the same, slowly shift into a #2 role and eventually into a #3/4 role player kind of guy.

No "goes to the Jets for his last hurrah" kind of thing, keep him here. I don't see any reason we can't get him into the 10,000 yard club.

Bates...I don't know what his market is. As a blocking tight end, his market def isn't what move tight ends get, but is it 3M/y? 4M? 5!?

Chinn I've mentally bookmarked as an 8M/year contract. I dunno if they pull that trigger with some of the options out there.

I wonder what all this does for Fowler. He's a good pass rusher, but that's all he is, can't set the edge, so how much does that cost?

I have heard this on a couple of other podcasts, I'm not sure where. It's how I even knew about the tragedy in Ward's life last year. Might have been Standig. Might have been Galdi. It might have been Bram, not entirely sure.

But it's come up somewhere, more than once. Now that I think about it, I think it might have been Galdi, and his conversation with a SF reporter after the Deebo trade.

But I could be making that up.

I'd like it too. They need a CB, and one that Peter's knows and has ties to other members of the coaching staff makes sense.

If this does not happen, then either Peter's knows and doesn't think that much of Ward OR the money is completely out of whack to the value.

Because they need CB help and he's one they know well.

Surprised no talk about Lawrence. Might health issues, still?

I really wish they had extended Terry as soon as the season was over. Clear cap room and get the contract done BEFORE all the new contracts get signed by FAs or players returning to their team.

However, if I am Terry, there's no way I would negotiate an extension until AFTER Higgins and Chase get their deals.

So, it's very possible the team went to Terry to get him to sign a deal, and Terry's agents said "no no no" I would. At this point, Terry has all the leverage. He's got a good contract and is beloved, and hits FA at the end of next year. They can extend him now, or not, that's up to them.

Unlike when he was looking for his first extension, where they NEEDED to do it because him playing out the year on his rookie deal meant $20m dollars he'd never earn, this situation is different.

I'm sure they'll get something done. I'm also sure Peters isn't an idiot and wants it done sooner than later. But I'm also sure Terry's agent isn't an idiot and wants it done after FA when there is a new set of contracts to use as comps.

I've heard plenty of speculation about it, too. But I've heard no actual rumors yet tied to it from reporters who are plugged in like Breer or locals like Keim.

As to SF, Keim mentioned Hargrave as a maybe. If I had to guess 1 SF player, its Hufanga. From what I read he wasn't just drafted by Peters but also was one of his favs -- culture guy, play maker, etc. But yeah I'd love it if they signed C. Ward.
