If Kirk was released, would you have wanted him signed here for 1 year, 16 million?

Clearly I am a fan, but I am no cap guy so hard to say from that perspective but 16 sounds a little high especially coming off injury. But I want to absolutely surround Daniels with proven studs while he is young and cheap. When Daniels cost us 50M sure lets rely on cheaper WRs to stay under the cap.

What cap hit would you welcome him with open arms? Or, would you prefer Kirk at 16, or Dyami at 14 or ? instead.

I would choose neither.

The mistake we made in the 2024 draft was take 'developmental' players like Sinnott and McCaffrey too high.

With those picks we should have taken players closer to being ready to step on the field and produce for us.

Under the salary cap in today's game (unlike 30 years ago when you marinated draft picks for a couple of years), #2 and #3 picks are expected to come in and make a contribution in Year 1, especially on a team where there were significant holes coming out of the previous season in terms of roster depth.

The reason I asked that is because by trading for Kirk, they would have given up a 7th rounder and had him for 1 year at 16 million. So his contract situation made that deal more costly than just a last round pick. Had he been cut, then yes you can get him for whatever price he’d agree to. But his current cap number is 16 million with 1 year left, so they take that or sign him to a longer deal not knowing if he can return to his previous level of play.

I like Kirk as a player, but to me it would be a gamble to pay that much for a prove it year.

We need edge, and he seems like a good dude. Two situations where I would be interested in....

1) A pick swap trade, where we end up with the same number of picks on this draft, even though they'd be later

2) In a situation where we already have highly likely trade down options for our 1st round pick

I just don't want to sacrifice quantity of rookies. Any pick trades will inevitably affect quality of rookies, but the bottom of our roster is waiver fodder. We can use later round picks to improve the bottom of our roster more effectively (and cheaply) that other, more mature rosters. We need to take advantage of that fact.

Bulldog I can see why the team took raw players like Sinnot and Luke to develop with JD5 and am OK with it, but those players need to pan out and become full time players to validate those picks. Making the championship game this past year shows we didnt need them this year to compete.

TEs need time we all know this. If you want to focus on reaching on Luke some I get it. Some myself included can't fully discount him being taken when he was because of his name.

Give Whitt something to work with. If you get a solid edge and a really good CB the defense could shoot into the bottom part of the top 10.

And that’s all you really need to win 10-12 games (again) with an offense which should be as good if not better than last year.

The shelf life of a 3rd round pick is something like 3-4 years as a good depth or rotational starter.

Hendrickson probably has 2-3 years left as a blue chip impact player.

Be aggressive. Attack success.

I’d speak only for Hendricks, he’s by far better than any player available in FA and probably the draft where we are picking.

Blue chip players at premium positions RARELY become free agents. If you want them, you have to trade for them.

The players who become FA are either players who didn’t live up to their potential, are at the end of a contract and are good but not worth the contracts (see Jon Allen). Rarely you’ll find a really good player who just refuses to sign an extension, so they play out their contract and 2 franchise tags and then hit FA. See Kirk Cousins and Brandon Scherff. But that’s somewhat rare.

If you want an elite player at a premium position in their prime, you either r have to draft them or trade for them.

While I like the Deebo trade becuase it was low risk, you could argue they could have found the same production elsewhere in FA without the trade. But Deebo fits the scheme like a glove. So it was probably worth it.

The bengals are in a tough spot because they had to (and did) pay Burrow, they have to make Chase the highest paid WR in the NFL, deal with Higgins and Hendrickson all at the same time. And they are cheap to begin with.

It is a lot all at once. Especially if you’re cheap.

Well, the desire for money overcame the quoted desire to win and compete on the biggest stages & win a Super Bowl. Good for him, if this is what he wants. When he looks back at the conclusion of his career, I wonder if he will have any “What ifs”. I’m old, so I can tell you, from my perspective, he will & that’s how life goes sometimes. Best of luck to you Myles & maybe you can achieve your goal, or, perhaps, you already have.
