Unfortunately I have a lot of experience with suicide. My best friend since high school took his life after learning he had lymphoma when we were in our early 30's. He was dating my sister in law. Another very good high school friend, all 3 of us spent a summer in Boulder, CO once, took his life a few years earlier after a breakup with his longterm girlfriend. This is the only one I never understood, he was a surgeon and had access to meds.
A 4th very good friend who we were caring for as she was losing her battle tried to do it in my recliner. But she did not have enough meds. We woke up to find her, knew of her wishes, read her note so we went upstairs and watched the news hoping the drugs would do their job. What an unreal experience. They didn't and my wife had to drive her to the hospital, the look on our friend's face was the saddest thing I have ever witnessed. There are few more interesting conversations than talking with a friend after her suicide failed. I'm a Red Sox fan and didn't go to bed until after the playoff game was over. She said she was sitting there wishing the damned game would end.
