What Would You Like For The New Name Of This Team?

Commanders here to stay. It's time to move on from the name change discussion
I am happy to be done with the discussion. The uniform debate will continue, but that never felt as important to me. Those can change every so often and it’s not a big deal. The name we are now stuck with forever. The one thing that takes a lot of the sting out of it for me is that the players and coaches seem to be on board with keeping it.

I personally won’t be able to move on until I see Werewolves 1 more time. 😉

The players and coaches on this roster will be gone in 10-15 years. It doesn't matter what they think or want. It's a slap in the face to a great fanbase. It's fine for individuals to say 'it's not a big deal'. But it's a very big deal to an awful lot of fans who have spent a lifetime supporting this team.

I'm not a big 'bite your nose off to spite your face' kind of a guy. There is no choice but to accept it. But I will say a silent '**** you Josh Harris' every time I see him from this point forward.

What did you want them to change it to? I'm surprised so many people thought it was going to happen.

The name Redskins is never coming back and that would be the only name that would make everybody except Mike Wise happy. Change it to something else and there will be a group of people not happy with the name and will carry on asking for the name to be changed again. Bring back something akin to the old uniforms and get rid of the abominations we wear now and don't be afraid of celebrating the past.

I have written numerous times what I would consider great alternatives - look it up if you want. I don't know that many thought 'it would happen'. But they thought it could happen. You know why? Because Josh Harris left the possibility open for 2+ years.

I'm so disappointed. Can't believe it. I'm glad they at least didn't leave us hanging.

But in the moment... I'm done with this team. At least for now. I imagine I'll feel differently when the season comes back around. Don't know. The "Commanders" will never be the team of my youth. Such a mistake. It's the final eff you to the large contingent of our fanbase of which I'm a member.

I wish I could shrug it off like others have been able to. Maybe in time I can, but for today, I'll sulk. And with my pocketbook, I'm certain I'll sulk much longer, even if I watch on Sundays.

Yep... and even Redskins wouldn't have made everyone happy. I've seen enough noise on Bluesky from fans of Washington to know that the negative propaganda about the name has been pretty effective. Besides, to us, the Redskins represent glory, honor, and greatness.

To those born after the turn of the century...? Redskins probably represent losing, mismanagement, scandal, and Snyder. Talk to someone in college or high school and they associate Redskins with zero positives.

For me, it's mostly a Shakespeare thing. I came to the team because it was the home team and you root for the home team. So Washington mattered as much as Redskins. I thought the controversy was bull and the name shouldn't ever change, but as I said before, "A ring by any other name will smell as sweet."

I hope you find your way back.

No rational fans thought 'Redskins' was coming back. That's a red herring. But a ton of them had hope, not discouraged by this ownership group, that the possibility of a new name with less stench existed.

That is what Harris pissed all over today, not a return to 'Redskins'.

And for those that care, today is your day to vent and stomp your feet and howl at the moon. Those of you inclined to say 'you'll get over it' should give those of us especially pissed a few days to catch up with you if we can.

Why, when ownership didn't say anything for a year and a half ?

I knew the second they said it wasn't a priority that they'd never change the name.
Once we started winning and the culture shifted it was even more obvious.
Little surprised they didn't just come out and say it was here to stay from the get go but I had almost no hope they were gonna let it stick around for multiple seasons and then change it, thst makes absolutely zero sense when it comes to branding.

As I've said in the past it doesn't really matter what they name them in 50 years it'll be the only thing that sounds good and makes sense but at first it'll suck.
You think packers sounded good when they first came up with it?
Despite it being a local thing it still sounded dumb to most of America but now nobody in the country could imagine them named anything else.
I won't be around but 50 years from now commanders will be the same thing.
Commanders has grown on me slightly because of course it's been a couple seasons now but i still don't love it.

My biggest problem with the name is that it's a legacy snyder doesn't deserve but Whatever I'll have to get over it.

Honestly, I think this is the way. Our society is dealing with a great paradigm shift. All the things we have been told that offend, effect and make it so somebody can not do something is being racked out of our society. It is going to be a battle and peoples opinions are going to be loud and aggressive. With that in mind, I agree with Harris and I suspect he has a master plan. For him at this level, money is a great deciding factor. I suspect, nobody would love to change the name back to Redskins more than he would. Thats the team he bought. However, we just had a great season as the Commanders and the sales of that name has exploded over 400%. Like I said earlier, winning solves EVERYTHING. I think Harris is going to save himself money by not rebranding the name. Allow the product to produce at this level for the near future. IF the circumstances change in favor of a rebrand, he will only consider it if the name Redskins is an option. He is going to play the long game and work hard at getting the logo back into the fold. Let the NFL and society decide for themselves that the name is not an issue. Let everyone keep saying Redskins without having to financially have an impact on its use and then wait for a moment when there is a time to make the change. When we win Super Bowls with the name Commanders, our options will start to become clear. In the meantime, like he said, spend the money on where it needs to be spent.

A thought. 2030, the new stadium is being opened and all you hear is "Welcome to Joe Gibbs Stadium, the new home for Your Washington Redskins" Its just a thought, but that would be pretty cool. Not necessary, but cool.

I leave open the possibility they studied a name change, and with the recent success of the team, Daniels as the #1 jersey sale, and the momentum, they finally decided "eh, it's just not worth it."

As everybody knows, I honestly couldn't give a damn what the team is called because the only name I cared about isn't going back. WFT, WFC, Commanders, Red Wolves, Werewolves, Armada, Presidents, Federals, Senators, Monuments, Miscreants, Derelicts, whatever. I just didn't care.

The team name I cared about was taken from me because Dan Snyder got into a pissing match with Fred Smith and the other owners and they used it as a club against him. THAT is why the name changed. Because Dan couldn't play nicely in the sandbox with other, smarter billionaires.

But once it was gone, it wasn't coming back. From there, I honestly didn't care what it was. The only thing I wanted it to be was gone.

I DO think they will bring the logo back in some way, some how. Not on the field, but special edition throwback stuff. How they do that, I'm not sure, but I think that logo has value, and I think they're going to try and maximize that value at some point. Just not on the on-field uniform.
