Random Thoughts

I'm enjoying some of the things here that ES didn't have. Also enjoying some of the new faces/posts. Still trying to get used to the navigation, finding threads, following conversations, etc. But I miss some of the ol' ES posters who haven't made their way over here.

That's the nice thing about having full technical control of your own website, vs. a corporation that doesn't care or have any interest in updating their own site - we have been able to do whatever we wanted to do here. I've had a couple folks reach out to me regarding how to 'get the word out' to former ESers who haven't found the place. I really have no idea - unless folks have a way to contact them on other social media sites. I have tried to promote this place on all of the major social media outlets, but some of them view us as competition and have been less than friendly about it. We do advertise on the Al Galdi Podcast, so maybe your all's favorites will eventually find us.

Going to a big Christmas party where small gifts are always exchanged with friends. Wife thought I got stuff and vice versa. So yeah I have to go shopping for Christmas gifts on the Saturday before Christmas. Screw it, I'll just go to that gift shop on Main Street here in Mount Airy that I never go to and get some glass tree ornaments, grab a few bottles of wine from the cabinet, tie a ribbon around the top and I have an armful of gifts.

I've always loved books when receiving small gifts.

OTOH, while I think it's nice to provide shelter for all who want it. Bigger is not always better. Everyone is welcome, but everyone need not apply ;)

Choosing a Sheldon gif means I don't even have to call you a smart arse ;)

I had my every 3 months CT scan on Wednesday and on Thursday my DR said that he can't see anything new going on, I only have scars from dead cancer, and that is the first time this has happened 5 months after my last radiation. It usually comes back after 3 months but I avoided drinking alcohol for the last 3 years until we went to Belgium in August.

So I now highly recommend drinking beer and whiskey moderately at least 4-5 days a week to keep that pancreatic cancer at bay. Also eat a good hamburger at least 4-5 days a week. :friday:

I was today years old when I found out Beyonce was 5'6....

Like, her entire career they've managed to at least make her look like a full stick of butter from every camera angle like it was law.

100% figured Ariana could fit in my bookbag...

One thing I noticed as I got older is you lose the taste for foods you always liked. For me it's a homemade hamburger among many things. I may still get one in a restaurant now and then because just like a tossed salad which contains the exact same ingredients as the one I make at home a burger just tastes better in a restaurant.

I’m sick of the me first world. Everyone thinks they are special and deserving. I really wish we didn’t have political leaders or billionaires pitting us against each other. I’ve travelled quite a bit and only ever had two issues which weren’t major. Everywhere I’ve been people have been kind to my wife and I.

I really wish the world would make space for everyone in it and not constantly telling us who to hate. I’m just sick of it. I find myself staying home more and I’ve skipped a couple of concerts recently because of it, which is unusual for me.

I know it’s expecting too much for everyone to get along, have compassion for one another, and think about others outside of themselves. When I was a kid, I thought when I grew up the world would get more peaceful. I was wrong.
I can totally relate. I try not to let things bother me anymore. Be the change that you want to see in the world.

It's not all it's cracked up to be. SW Fl sucks this time of the year due to all the tourists. Roads over crowded, lines for every place to eat, stores are a zoo. Nice weather, but we look forward to Easter, when they all go back north.
I am in a suburb of Miami and I can relate. But you need to admit it's better than being in 10° weather. Try to see the glass half full :)

OK, I was in a SOW thread and snowflake thingys start coming down the screen...or is this a flashback from 40 years ago?

Nope, they're really there.

Edit, add: now they're coming from another direction...woah...:aargh4:

I understand where your commin from. For me, 30+ years of excessive heat and humidity is more than I care to deal with. You can always put on clothing to stay warm, but you can only take off so much clothing to stay cool before they arrest you. Very different on your side of the state weather wise.

Pretty random, but does anyone have any experiences/recommendations for a home safe? Likewise, any warnings are welcome.

All good...where are you?

I’ve missed some of the conversation probably but regarding weather/temps and where one lives… I’ve always lived in Idaho. Much of that at elevation where my yard is covered in snow for half the year. I’m sick of the cold. I want to wear shorts and flip flops more. Golf and fish year round. Can’t leave Idaho because of family and my business but am in the process of buying a home in AZ. Looking forward to being able to get out of the cold for at least 2-3 months a year.

And one more thought. I love Christmas. In the past I’d crawl up on my roof and spend a couple days hanging lights and decorating. These last two years however. Nada. We do a tree and a few other things but no more lights. Best decision.
