Like this video- they talk that it takes about a year to evaluate and figure out what you have:

Derek Carr with a possibly fractured left hand and also a potential concussion.

At what point in time is it appropriate to voice concern about Johnny Newton? Last week he recorded good eggs across the stat line. I understand he is a rookie but even a rookie DT should be showing something by now.

Probably not at least until game eight next year :)

Newton did have one game where he dominated. The mitigating factor with him is not only is he a rookie playing on two surgically repaired feet (is he 100%?), but because of his injuries he missed the entire offseason and so may just be getting into preseason shape now. All those missed reps, missed cardio, missed practices with his teammates to get on the same page matter. So, there are many reasons not to judge Newton yet.

Still, would love to see the bulb flash more often and see the talent pop.

That's the thing, he DID flash in one game and that was a while ago. So that tells me he is healthy and as it's now December 9 I'm not sure we can still use the loss of an offseason as a reason given how he looked in that one game. But it has only been one game, in the others he has been invisible.

We have 99 problems but I don’t think Johnny is one. The interior DL is one of the toughest to evaluate for fans. We have no idea what they are being individually asked to do within the scheme.

Related. As good as Quinn's system seems to be it does seem to be vulnerable to the run. We saw that in Dallas where their secondary was great, they got good pressure on the QB, but often got gutted in the run game. This may be in part what Chris is talking about. Is the scheme designed to pass rush strong at the expense of the rush D and if so does that go to the detriment of how effective our D tackles seem to be.

I honestly don't know if there's any there there in this post, but I have been wondering about why with our Dtackles backed up by strong linebacking is the middle of our D so soft?

Another factor that we don’t know is what are the interior lineman’s responsibilities within the scheme vis a vis the run? For example- is it to occupy blockers so that the linebackers can fill and clean up?

The weakness in Quinn's system is they acquire smaller DTs who can get penetration vs the pass (or are supposed to) but are vulnerable at 280-295 vs a strong run game.

Call me an old timer, but I still think a defense should be based on having rush ends that apply consistent pressure and defensive tackles that plug the middle and are stalwart against the run.

If you have Chris Jones or Aaron Donald then you align your defense accordingly, but I don't think with the players they had in Dallas on the DL or here in DC that is an issue.

If you can't stop the run, you aren't going to win games.

Ritchie Petitbon crafted a very good pass rush with DEs, blitzing linebackers and DBs while having Butz and Grant inside.

We don't need a 15 sack defensive tackle to be a top defense.

What do the yellow seats signify? For me they ruin the visuals of the stadium on tv.

I think they were supposed to be the gold of burgundy and gold.

Isn't there some sort of pattern to them? Are the "gold" seats just randomly added?

In Arizona they have different colored seats as well and at first glance they look random but when you get up higher you can see that they are actually mimicking sun rays.
