Are We Taking Advantage of the Extra Prep For Dallas?

I honestly had no idea his injury was this serious when he was traded for, so disappointed that he appears to be still hurt. This isn't college, in the NFL you have to treat every game as a possible loss.

As far as not practicing the NFL relies on keeping a schedule. They wanted to stay on schedule and being so beat up and going at it daily since July the best thing this team could do was tell their players to get treatment but pull away from football for a few days to recharge the batteries and get healthier. Coaches on the other hand never rest and they will utilize these additional days to their advantage.

Well, hamstring injuries linger. I think I remember you being a fan from the 80s; if so, you may remember Gary Clark's lingering hamstring problems. They are tough to deal with. He has a legitimate hamstring injury, and they are satisfied with his general work ethic/demeanor. The last two pieces of this puzzle are:
- his contract is beyond this year. He is not a rental.
- looking at this year, he was picked up by a 7-win team just after mid-season. That is a team with a very high chance of going to the playoffs, and he is likely to get at least 2-3 games before the end of the season to get acclimated. Smart DCs can get new talented players acclimated fast. So, that is going to be a good test of our scheme and ability to fit different pieces in. It will make the end of the season (and hopefully playoffs) very interesting; what we see now may not be reflective of what we see then; hopefully whatever we see now will only take a step forward. That is pretty cool; we basically have opened our Christmas present already. Now we have to wait.

My only quibble is if we know he might not be available for a quarter of the season after we traded for him did we pay too much of a premium?

I would much, much, much rather having him fully healthy and available for the closing month of the regular season than pushing him for Dallas and Tennessee.

If the trainers, the doctors, and the player are not convinced the hammy is good to go…I have no problem waiting.

If we are not practicing today, we surrendered our training advantage opportunity.
No one gets extra practices in after a Thursday night game. The whole advantage is getting more days off to rest up and heal up. The coaches are doing extra prep but then they have their normal work week with the players the week of the game.

Oh I don't mean to sound impatient. But let's not forget Gary Clark could not practice due to his injury but he sure showed on Sunday. I know this is not a rental and for the next few years, still I had no idea when he was traded for that he may miss his first 3 games. And I'm sure I'm not alone. To assume we wil win on Sunday without one of our best players is dangerous.

I get it - I’m antsy for him to get out there. And being without him when facing Lamb feels a little like we’re playing with fire. With that said, not only can hamstrings linger, but they can easily get aggravated. Getting him to 100% gives us a better shot vs Philly, Atlanta and in the playoffs (assuming we make the postseason).
I’ll add that this staff seems focused on doing what’s right for the player/team in terms of health, more so than I can recall from the past. Obviously that doesn’t mean they won’t play guys that are banged up, but they seem intent on long term health and testing the player to make sure they won’t hurt the team.

As for Clark, crazy that he was able to play like he did on a bum hamstring.

Oh don't get me wrong, I don't want the team to rush him back and risk a set back. But when he was traded for nobody said anything about his injury forcing him to miss the first 3 games for us and possibly more. I'm just a little frustrated as I was not expecting this.

Hammies are tricky. There is nothing you can do but rest until you recover. There is no "playing thru it" or you risk hurting it even more and then you're really screwed.

When I read this thread title and see the "we" part, I think it means us as fans. Like marinating things? Doing extra food prep? Stocking up on cold beer?

Yes. Yes "we" are.

They also have a way of sneaking up on you when you think they're ok and saying "Bet you forgot about me, huh?" :p

Looks Marshon is Peters first big whiff not because he traded for him, that might still work out in the long term, but because we paid a high price for a player who was a month away from being able to practice. Instead of three picks, it should have been one pick plus some conditionals.

We have two gimmies coming up. It's better to have him at 100% after the bye when we have 3 straight games that matter.
I want him to pick off Kirk 14 times and then gloat.

I don't believe any game is a gimmie yet. I don't think we've reached that point.

No team can be taken for granted.

Nuts to that. We're a good team and we need to beat those teams. The Cowboys are reeling and spiraling the bowl. Titans are just a bad team that lacks the talent or coaching to beat us.

It's not like the Browns beating the Steelers. The Browns are a talented team riding moral victories. Those are the kind of teams that worry me. It's like the Saints and why they worry me.

These are two games that losing is inexcusable. If we're thinking playoffs, we beat these teams badly.

I agree it's inexcusable. I agree we should beat them.

I don't think it's a gimmie. I guess as fans we can come out cocky, but I've seen this team think the world was theirs and come out flat too often. They need to remain hungry and not look at teams as pushovers.
