The 2025 Draft Thread

I'm never apposed to drafting OL help but our defense is still bad at getting off the field when it matters most. We need a run stopper be it a lineman or LB or safety and more help for Lattimore. Saying like this I don't know if we have enough picks lol

Some receiver thoughts:

Isaiah Bond, Texas: Smaller receiver body. Good speed and hands. Was productive at Alabama for a sophomore target last year. Only had 26 receptions for 435 yards for Texas this year. Draft sites love this guy. I think he has a ton of potential but he's not a guy I look at and think "first round prospect" (so far this is a reoccuring theme with this class).

Emeka Egbuka, Ohio State: I hate that I am saying this because I hate Ohio State. But I think this guy is almost a run to the podium guy for us if we are in position to take him in the first. He has good size, great hands, good route variety and explosive. He reminds me of a guy who wears #17 for the Commanders right now.

Luther Burden, Mizzou: Makes a lot of spectacular plays. Tracks the ball well, plays with a good base. I don't think he's on the board for us... He's probably WR3 behind Hunter and Teta.

Tre Harris, Ole Miss: Big body receiver. He runs kind of... robotic. But he has a big frame and a large catch radius. He plays with a relentless motor. This is probably a round 2 guy if we don't get Egbuka.

Elic Ayomanor, Stanford is another to watch. He's more of a Day 2 pick, but he's Noah Brown sized, he blocks well and sometimes puts his body into it trying to drive the CB off the spot. His hands seem...ok. It's difficult to tell as the QB play is bad. Ayomanor's got some good catches, but doesn't make many difficult catches where he has to contort and fully extend. Stanford offense is a mess, in large part because the QB is often late to throw, inaccurate, and he folds quickly against pressure.

He's on my radar from what he did against Colorado and Travis Hunter a year ago. That was the game of his life and he regularly got separation against him. However this year against TCU, that wasn't occurring as often. His moves to set up slant routes did not look as quick as the year prior. I want to watch Ayomanor as more 2024 film comes out, because he seems like he can fit the offense.

Dane Brugler's Top 50 has Ayomanor as #28 but that seems rich. This WR class outside of the top guy is not looking so hot.

Yeah, I'm focusing on guys who are going to be around in the mid to late first. But so far, I'm not really thrilled with a lot of the choices. Ayomanor I watched a little bit... He looks like a walking OPI

Dane Brugler put out his new Top 50. None of the QB's are running away with it and all carry large risk. Makes me think we could trade down out of the 1st for a team that wants to trade back into it to roll the dice on a QB.
you just know they'll run up the board on draft day though. They have to really. Especially when a cat like Nix is killing it.

He's the guy that I'm most keyed on at WR. Probably my top realistic choice outside of the TEs and Jeanty.

Lattimore gives us the ability to drop a safety in the box, and adding a 2nd corner (to pair with Lattimore) adds to that. Or that’s the hope anyway.

IMO, a stud tackle would have the biggest impact - allowing us to leave them on an island, slide protections, improve the ground/screen game, and not have to devote a chip block to that side. Kliff’s done a great job hiding our tackles (with a lot of heavy lifting by Daniels), but we’re lacking quality at both spots for sure. Difficult to find one though. A quality corner and an offensive playmaker are probably more realistic.

Speaking of offensive playmaker, last I checked, Ertz was something like 7th in yards for TEs, 21st in ypc, and 33rd in yac. Tough to find an upgrade, especially with rookie TEs often taking time to develop, but there’s certainly room for improvement there.

Been casually watching some players for this upcoming draft.

James Pierce, Jr - Tennessee - EDGE - Is a good pass rusher but he is a little bit on the light side. Pulling guards light him up and as a pass rusher he prefers to be in a wide 9. Good athlete, but not tremendously explosive. I don't think he's a guy you'd want in the first round as he is more of a specialist. Of course, he has talent and can develop some size and power so I'm not down on him. I just don't think he's a round 1 guy.

Abdul Carter - Penn State - EDGE/LB - I think he is a guy more suited to the Frankie Luvu/Micah Parsons role. Not a pure edge. And I'm not sure using round 1 capital on that is a good move for us as I don't know if he is game changing right away.

Princely Umanmielen - Ole Miss - EDGE - I think this is more the style of guy we want. Long, explosive and quick. But he doesn't have the body of work in college yet to justify... but I need to spend more time with him to get a good feel.

Mykel Williams - Georgia - EDGE - Lacks the explosion off the ball that you want to see. The best way for a DL to be effective is their get off. It's the most important piece of the puzzle. He has a good motor, but again, I'm not sure he's a difference maker on day 1 and therefore going to be hard to be the BPA.

I'm not enamored with the edges so far, but just starting to really watch guys.

What do you think about Mike Green, the Edge from Marshall?

Loads of production. He's had a Sack or TFL in every game this season, including a sack against Ohio State (his only ranked competition this season unless they get a good bowl game). Decent size at 6'3 or 6'4 and 245. He's got a variety of moves to win in one step as well as pure speed. I really like how he can get skinny between blockers when doing a quick move to the inside.

His production is mostly just this breakout year. So that's a worry.

Not much in the way of "film" on him, but the little bits and pieces I see of him I like. He looks slippery and explosive. But I need to see more to really give an accurate opinion. But he's the type of player I like at edge.

Lotta season left but looking at our 2025 draft picks. Our 1, 2, Philly's 3rd (which is owned by Miami which will be an early 3rd rounder), New Orleans 5th (which will be an early pick in the 5th) and our 3 7ths.

I can see AP trading down in both the 3rd and getting a later 3rd and acquiring a 4th and trading down in the 5th for a later 5th and acquiring a 6th. We could very easily end up with a 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 7, 7 after trading our picks this year for Lattimore and he will be ready for Dallas, I'd think.

Do we view Sinnott as a solution. Ertz is getting old so a pass receiving tight end in the future might be on the list.

Based on how early Sinnott was drafted and how high he was on their board, he is at least part of the solution.

With his and Bates I can see them looking towards a good RAC TE

Definitely think Sinnott is the long term plan, dude was a beast in college. They got Ertz in FA, and I’m thinking the plan was to let Sinnott learn from an old pro. Ertz’s health has been a concern the past few years, and I imagine the FO hoped Sinnott would learn, and step in if, and when, Ertz got banged up. Luckily, Ertz has stayed healthy, and been a huge safety valve for JD.

We’ve still got over 1/3 of the season left, so Sinnott may start being integrated into the passing game these last six contests. Expect Sinnott to be taking the reins next year. I do expect much better RAC from Ben. He is a unit, and quite athletic for his size. One thing he does not do is go down easily.

Yeah Slot, I've been a little perplexed that Sinnott hasn't gotten more opportunities. I'm not going to beat on Ertz, because at his best he has been a huge part of the offense. But he also makes way too many mental mistakes for a guy with his experience and he is not quite the same guy he used to be (it happens to us all). You'd think a TE drafted in the 2nd round would get signicant reps even right out of the gate. Not sure whether he is struggling some, not fully healthy, or if they are just leaning on Ertz because they can. But I'd love to see a whole lot more of Sinnott in the passing game.

Seems to me fans always speculate on the picks based on position. "We need to draft this edge or receiver" or whatever. But the good organizaitons, such as ours, draft the best players available and try to fill needs in free agency.

They are pretty far along in the rebuild after only one year. I do believe Sinnott will be their primary receiving TE next year, rookie TEs are rarely productive, but they have little depth there as I think they will walk away from Zach Ertz. I love how they signed their free agents. I was pretty convinced before the season that Luvu and Ekler would be impact player so they signed them for multiple years. The others were on prove it deals. Some have produced, like Fowler, and they may extend those players. Others such as Ferrell have failed the audition and they do not have any committs to them after this season.

Tyler Warren is just special. I had posted a ton about him in the draft thread at the other site. I wish he would have come out last year. We could have had him instead of Sinnot. As he really didnt break out until this season. But the tools were evident. Now he will be a late 1st early 2nd guy. And will be a beast in the NFL.

Would not mind if the Commies used o e of their 7th rounders to pick Dominic Zvada. I think the kid is the next great kicker to come into the league

I love what Seibert has given us this season, but there’s a reason he’s bounced around league. Accurate, but not a big leg, and Zvada has already banged in six from 50+ this year. Could lock down kicker for a decade plus.

The best organizations absolutely draft by position… but not based on need. Premium positions. Which are exactly what we are lacking sans QB.

OT, Edge, Receiver, CB. Those are the positions we are looking at and the premium NFL positions for round 1

Absolutely agree KDawg, they’ll pick their top rated guy at one of those positions (think edge may have a slight edge) unless there’s a guy they have rated as a can’t miss prospect at another position, that falls to their pick.

Does DT fit there as well? Not that I think we go that direction…
