Bought a house 4 years ago that needed remodeling. Finally getting to the painting stage. All the walls were really dark colors like dark brown and burgundy. My wife wanted white walls, because she’s used to the mental institution I guess. Not my thing to go plain white, but we did and it’s so refreshing. The house is so much brighter and you can actually see walking around at night. After paint, I will be installing floors.

We bought an old beat up farmhouse built in 1900. The previous owners smoked inside and that's probably why we got the house. The first thing we needed to do was paint the interior, happy to learn a coat of paint did the job and removed the odor. And yeah we went with white, I like white walls to go with the farmhouse blue trim.

One wall in the family room was wall paper, stained yellow from the smoke. I know you are supposed to remove wall paper not paint over it but I came around the corner and my friend has already started painting over it. Fuck it I said, we have so much to do I'll worry about that later.

That was in 2002 and it still looks fine. .
 
My house needs a total makeover - but I just don't have the energy or skills to take it on, and don't want to spend the money on it to have someone else do it. Maybe when I retire in a couple of years I'll start slow and see what I can do...

The eaves under my gutters are dry-rotted and need to be replaced. Ditton the wooden railings on my front porch. Interior needs to be repainted and recarpeted. Vinyl floors in kitchen and one bathroom have buckled and need to be replaced. Cabinets everywhere are beaten up and need replacing. Basically, my house needs to be completely renovated. And I have zero energy/motivation to do it. Like I said, maybe when I hit retirement in a couple years if it's still standing, lol...

I have a contractor I pay by the hour, I supply the materials. He is a godsend. One task I've always done was blow the leaves off the roof, we have a lot of angles up there and they get trapped. Sunday he does this as I no longer feel comfortable on a roof. He is also looking into a piece of wood that has rotted at the top of the house right under the roof, there is now a hole visible from 30 feet below. I am terrified at what rot he may find as I'm not sure how long it's been like this.
