Official Game Thread - Week 10 - Steelers @ Commanders

The most important thing is not the remaining schedule but getting our missing players back.

Robinson and Lattimore by talent are among our top 6-8 players and it’s difficult for this team to find the consistency in the run game without #8.

On defense we made a big trade but the player is not available.

Meanwhile Williams gets the 32 yard TD as the Steelers deadline pickup and Pickens goes for just under 100.

You put a true cover corner on the field and I think that rebates at least one of Wilson’s 3 touchdowns.

Thank goodness we survived the loss of Seibert for one week in the kicking game but he has been largely lights out since we signed him and will need clutch kicking down the stretch.

Washington could win all of its remaining games or lose any one.

But having these three players on the field for us boosts our playoff chances markedly IMO.

I would have been fine with the play if they moved the ball forward then measured and we were inches short.

But in typical gaslighting nfl fashion they put the ball one yard behind where everybody with functional eyeballs could see the ball should have been and then said pay no attention to that man behind the curtain, it was in fact where the ball ended up.

The nfl does themselves no favors in the conspiracy department when they pull this shit!

Yes, this is exactly my issue. Place the ball just shy of the 41, measure it or announce its short of the 41. Instead, they leave it at the mark of a very very poor spot and then by replay don’t move it. What is replay for then? Clearly the spot was wrong, move the ball, regardless of the outcome of if it’s a first down.

I think there's a combination of strength of opponent and getting players back.

Also, I think we're going to be down to center #2 for Thursday. It sounded on the Finlay pod Biadasz was REALLY struggling through the game. And was largely ineffective at the end of the game.

If there is a silver lining, after Thursday, they have a 12 day break, then 2 games, then a bye week. Between November 15th and December 15th, they play 2 games.

So there will be some time to get rest after Thursday.

This 1000X. I think im more upset about this than actually not getting the first down. If we were an inch short, FINE but the ball was spotted a full yard + from where the ball was when he was down. The fact it wasn't fixed after review is unfathomable.
 
Bad days for Quarterbacks. Goff having way worst game of the year.

I’m kind of amazed at how egregiously awful that spot was on the 4th down attempt. I had to rewind because I thought I had the wrong yard line.

There is no way that ball should have been spotted at the 42.

Now… did Ertz have the first? Well, that’s a different topic. But there was MORE than enough evidence to overturn the original spot at the 42 yard line and put the ball where they believed Ertz was touched. And then measured.

Instead they opted to put their fingers in the ears and yell really loud.

As far as the team goes it still is missing a lot of pieces. Noah Brown has been excellent, but he’s not a #2. We need another high end receiver.

I’d like to see Sinnott start to earn a bit more playing time. Our line needs another high end upgrade. Even with Lattimore we need another starting corner (so Lattimore, New guy and Sain in the slot with Noah as primary back up) and we could probably use a safety.

But our new DL is better than the “best DL in football” with Young, Sweat Payne and Allen… and it only has one of those guys.

Daniels played relatively well today. I know it wasn’t a typical game for him but he didn’t make any egregious mistakes. He missed a few. But played okay. McLaurin was great.

If I was doing a Next Day Thread, though, Zaccheus would have gotten 3 frowns. Wow was he off.

Anyways, on to Philly.

I've felt for some time that AP will target whichever corner SF lets walk this summer, either Charvarius Ward or Deommodore Lenoir (although Lenoir can play both outside and slot, he's excelled at nickel so might not be the ideal fit with Sainristil). I also have a hunch that Tee Higgins is on our target list, and ditto DeMarcus Lawrence.

Get those guys and you can go pure BPA in the draft.

Like the idea of all those except Higgins. He’s good but seems hurt all the time if he could stay healthy he'd be a great fit I jusy don’t think he can.

I’d like to see the next day thread make it here too
 
The team is so far ahead of schedule. I think mostly because of 3 things:

1. Rock-solid leadership from the top. Harris and Peters are setting the example, and that's critical.
2. Exceptional coaching. Quinn, Kliff and Whitt are all dealing with not perfect situations, and making the best of it. Especially with Whitt having to figure out how to play defense when you don't have a starting quality CB on the roster.
3. A true QB playing at a very high level.

However, there remains huge question marks in the roster, which will continue to take time to fix:

- OL needs more depth and maybe another starter at RT. Though it's pretty good.
- DESPERATELY need a real WR2. Noah Brown is good, but he's not a #2. He can be a good #3.
- DESPERATELY need another CB, probably 2. They need to find a way to make St. Juste a rotational guy at the back end of the roster. The second outside guy isn't on the team. They probably need to sign a guy and draft a guy.
- They'll continue to need to add depth everywhere.

I'm really hoping OL injuries don't completely derail the offense. Trent Scott CANNOT play. Wylie might not be great, but he's better than Trent Scott. If Lucas is out for an extended period of time, and Wylie can't go, they're in a really tough spot. Biadasz is also playing through pain.
 
Too many mistakes against a good team will not cut it. The WR’s and TE’s let Jayden down. Ertz, McCaffrey, zaccheus, and Noah all dropped huge passes for first downs in the second half. And that’s that I didn’t get to see most of the first half. It’s totally unacceptable.

And honestly, Ertz, imo you run a little past the first down to ensure you get it man. This isn’t your first rodeo. I thought it was stupid to leave it up to the zebras.

What happened to Wiley?
Why wasn’t he out there?

This one stung. With a 10 pnt 2nd half lead you can’t lose that imo. We should have found a way to win that. Ugh. I know I’m being greedy and maybe unreasonable, but damn we let an opportunity slip.
 
100% agree about the Ertz spot. The placement of the ball was egregious and then not even moving it at least closer to the first down marker was even more egregious. I also wasn't sure why they didn't take a look at potential fumble by a Steelers RB earlier in the game where it looked the ball was ripped out while he was on top of bodies still trying to fight forward. To be fair, they did go to commercial break so maybe they were taking a look at determined he was down. I also think not calling DPI on that last throw to Noah Brown was sketch.....the defender never made any attempt to play the ball, he just bee-lined straight into Brown. I can't believe that if BSJ did the same thing we aren't seeing 5 flags flying through the air immediately.

I've noticed a trend that Kingsbury tends to start out games being very conservative and reserved with the playcalling, almost like he wants to bait the opposing defense into showing their cards before he is ready to start his actual plan of attack. While I don't have an issue with that necessarily, I do think that strategy takes a hit without B-Rob on the field because the offense on 1st down doesn't seem as effective without those 3-4 guaranteed (almost always) yards he gets to help them stay ahead of the chains.

Overall I have zero issues with where the team is now. The fact that we are even talking the possibility of playoffs is amazing in itself, but I will also caution that while the offense looks amazing at times, they are still making their fair share of errors and sloppy execution that while not affecting the outcome against the bad teams, will definitely cost games against better caliber competition. When they went up 24-14 coming out of halftime, there was a real opportunity to put some distance between them on the scoreboard but mental errors kept it close and ultimately cost them the win.

Also sidenote: They scheduled us to play Baltimore & Pittsburgh coming off their byes, with then a short week @Philly and for third season in a row a Week 14 bye week..........before the season started no one probably expected it to effect anything, but once this team showed itself to be in the mix those things actually do matter. This team is banged up, and also both units are relying on some older talent to play at a high level. They are going to be going into Philly on fumes.

Re: Kliff you need to commit to the run game early to set up the play-action later, even if it isn't efficient. Agree that's what BRob is so important.

This was a game we ought to have won and I'm glad the team is taking it hard but as a fan, 7-3 and 8-2 don't feel much different to me. Onto Philly.
 
Washington making mistakes and not capitalizing enough on Pittsburgh's was unfortunate, but at least it wasn't Houston and its five interceptions. Maaaaaan, that's gotta burn bad.
 
St Juste aside, I was pretty impressed with the D. Didn’t get too much help from the offense either. Sheldon Day 2nd on the team with 8 tackles was not on my bingo card. Can’t help but think if Lattimore had played the outcome likely would have been quite different.
