I always wonder if they were good because George Michael was ahead of his times or because everything ramped up during the Glory Years and it didn't matter what content was put out.
 
Sports machine was a must see for my friends and I even when I lived in California.

Glenn was just a really funny dude. The way he would break Maureen and Gordon Peterson laugh was my dad's favorite part of the news nightly.
 
Our new defensive starter says that we do not have eleven starters on the roster.

 
I like his attitude even if it isn't PC

Everyone here better be ready at any given moment to get on the field and perform. Considering how much "trade rumor" was around Allen, I am not shocked

IMO it was both. George was on the leading edge with his sports machine, and we were lucky enough to have hired Gibbs as HC.

Another show or bit that I really enjoyed were the Howard Cosell 'Around the league highlights' during MNF halftime shows.

A funny story about Glenn was at he charged his hotel room onto George's bill during one of the Super Bowl's. I can't find the details about that, but it sounded like George took it the right way as a joke.
 
Nothing wrong with this approach. Richie Petitbon had 6 or 7 core defensive players and filled in at those other 3 or 4 spots with a tandem or rotation to be successful.

In the NFL today under the cap you really don't have the opportunity to build a defense with pro bowlers all over the field, it's just too expensive.

What I trust Quinn and Witt to do is put the players in the best position based on THEIR skills to be successful.

Rivera and Del Rio were in love with a 2 linebacker set which didn't work with the personnel. They refused to be aggressive and let teams pick them apart in coverage.

Not to mention the worst performing defensive backfield in modern history. All those Day 1 and Day 2 picks back there at CB and S and this team was dog awful.

Anyone else sick of turning on sports news and seeing scrawl ticker comments from Caleb Williams about how great the Bears offense is going to be for the third or fourth time in a couple of weeks?

I hope this guy gets humbled early in 2024.

If you are going to be predictable you have to out-execute the other team. There's a famous story about Russ Grimm telling Ed Too Tall Jones what play the Redskins were about to run because he knew they couldn't stop it. Dallas grew dispirited after they ran 50 gut ten times in a row. Gibbs apparently laughs when he retells this story because the team basically mutinied and waived off his play to keep running that one. Eventually, Gibbs just went with it.

Difference between then and now, Rivera and JDR's defenses were both predictable and sloppy so they were easily countered and bested.
 
You know you are in the doldrums of the offseason when the Washington Post devotes an entire article to how the head coach wears his baseball cap backwards and pulls it off.
 
Terry also only missed doing it 5 years in a row by 81 yards, in a season that he only played in 14 games his rookie year.
 
Do we give Jason Wright the benefit of the doubt? I mean he did arrive highly regarded and it's very possible that working under Dan Snyder made it impossible for him to excel at his job. The fiascos and fumbles stand out, but as I'm willing to give a mulligan to pretty much every player on Rivera's squad last year, do the front office folk deserve the same grace?

It must mean something that Peters hasn't let him go. It doesn't surprise me the least that Wright sought out different opportunities since Harris and co were cleaning house this year. But Jason is still here. Can't help wondering if that means anything.
 
I think he’ll b gone after this year. And I don’t give him a pass. I doubt Snyder had a ton to do with many of the questionable decisions he has made and how they were executed. I think him nearly getting the team president gig in Green Bay is a sign his days are numbered in DC.
