Sam Howell
4th round (102)
6th round (179)

3rd round (78)
5th round (152)

Best I can tell, these are in this years draft.

Unless they sign or trade for another guy. This just about seals their draft plans.

Dumbest shit I've seen in a while. We just dumped a good QB for a possible in the draft or Mariota.

To me Mariota coming here meant Washington was going to draft a young qb and have Marcus here as a backup that is comfortable in the role.

Howell has a good chance of competing in 2025 in Seattle as Geno Smith's deal is basically a one year arrangement as revised.

So Washington gains 51 draft spots for Sam. 24 (4th to 3rd) & 27 (6th to 5th).

From the draft chart guys- looks like we net 119.6 points per 2024 chart, equivalent of pick #95 (low 3rd).

Not a walk in Redskins park.

I think the trade is essentially a move from 102 to 78 to get that extra #3 pick.

That's in the range of the 'belly' of the third round where draftniks are indicating capable OL and WR can be found.

Looks like the Falcons IMO may have gotten a better return for Desmond Ridder in RonDale Moore, who's still only 24 and has 4.3 speed. He had 50 plus catches a couple of years ago but was injured last season. Originally, a second round pick,

I liked Sam and think another year of experience he could really be something here; has a chance to start there imo. Good luck to him and yes this makes it even more obvious that we are going for either Maye or Daniels and can get some OL help with these picks.

FWIW I think it will be Daniels as him and Mariota are very similar imo and Marcus can help him easier.

That was not a very good trade. Moving up does not replace the cheap contract and potential sam showed. Giving up one pick and sam for 2 picks would have been acceptable. This was the first bad move the new front office made

Agree on Daniels. That was my original thought when Mariota was signed. If we were going with Maye I think we would have signed a backup with a different style of play.

Notice that Baltimore resigned Josh Johnson to backup Lamar Jackson with Malik Cunningham still on the roster.

All three of those quarterbacks have similar style of play.

Doesn't make any sense to have Sam Darnold backing up Lamar Jackson

I guess the Seattle deal was in the works prior to signing Marriotta.

My reaction though to seeing this thread was to literally say, “Oh no!l” out loud.

Not happy about this mood, but I guess they did Sam a solid if they knew they were drafting a QB and his opportunity here was over.

Still, Booooooooo!

Can't say I'm thrilled with this but then that probably doesn't surprise anyone here.

I was raised to believe a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. While there are still questions about Sam, we know the NFL game isn't too big for him.

I have real concerns about every QB in this draft.

For those who would tell me to trust in Peters I would say that I absolutely trust in Peters. I trust him more than any front office guy we've had here since Bethard himself roamed the halls of Redskins Park.

And I would remind everyone that Bethard traded up to draft Ryan Leaf.

Yes I believe it will be Daniels now if we stay at 2. Which tbh is fine with me, I think he has some very good tools to be successful at the NFL level.

Alex Spanos wanted to draft Ryan Leaf to sell tickets. Beathard bears that trade as a crucifix, but in the end owners often have a large role in these events.

Ryan Leaf was also the #1 rated QB at the end of his first preseason. He folded mentally, not physically

That was Gibbs' gift, to know that football IQ and emotional intelligence were as important as measurables.

Misread the trade. Initially, I thought it was Sam for a four ad a six. Realizing, we are giving up picks to essentially move up half a round is awful.

Like I said earlier, replacement cost has to be considered. Even if Howell maxes out as a a solid backup I think this nets a poor value.

Booooo!

Yep, Atlanta appears to have gotten more for Ridder, who was not on Sam's level in 2023.

I think Washington wanted Sam out of the equation as a young quarterback that is still looking to start.

Mariotta is not a threat to Daniels.

He's here clearly as a veteran backup only and signed for just 2024.

I'll have to find it again but I've read an article recently that included quotes from Bethard that indicate he wanted Leaf and believed he would be just as good a pro as Manning.
