Mariota's style is most akin to Daniels unless we move up to take Williams.

Maye, McCarthy and Nix are not similar.

Penix may be to a degree but the media talking heads somehow have him down in Round 2 despite the arm and the leadership.

Yeah, I'm not sure that telegraphs anything either. There are only so many vets out there and you want one you fill comfortable with and can produce, not just one that fits a style so they can mentor a rookie in that style.

Brissett I think came to Washington thinking Rivera would bench Howell if things went south and he could regain a starting role.

I am sure he was somewhat surprised at how the season played out with EB, etc.

His contract with NE to me says he may be the starter in 2024 for them. Mariota took less but also looks to fit in with what Kingsbury runs and he seems to be ready to be a backup if need be.

I like the Mariota signing, veteran QB and will be a solid backup and not totally the end of the world if has to be a spot starter. Like all our moves so far tbh.

I think that sounds mostly right but I wouldn’t assume because they signed Mariota it’s going to be Daniels. They likely wanted a vet regardless of the style of the guy they are looking at drafting. Might be Daniels but I am not sure this is telegraphing that…
Good points. I don't this signing Mariota 100 percent says we are going for Daniels one way or the other; needed a vet QB in the room and that is what we are getting.

FWIW as far as that goes, and even though I am a Tar Heel fan haha, do think Daniels has the better tools and/or fits with Kingsbury better overall than Maye and would prefer us to go in his direction.

Williams is nothing like Daniels. Maye is much closer in skill set to Daniels than Williams.

Williams ran for 382 and 142 yds in his 2 years at USC. He had 442 in his season at Oklahoma.

Maye ran for 698 and 449 yds in his two seasons as a starter.

Williams is the least running QB of the big 3. Maye is very athletic and can run the ball very well.

My gut think we're shopping that number 2 pick with the Mariota signing, then again my gut had a salad for lunch so maybe it's off

The careful balancing act for Peters is ensuring that in addition to a bevy of picks the trade allows Washington to still find a quarterback whether one outside of the top 3 that comes in and becomes a franchise passer or Sam Howell going and balling out in a new offense.

If Peters doesn't adequately address quarterback in 2024 and we 'waste' a season with mediocre play at the position he could feel some heat.

My guess after some consideration is it is actually LESS risky for Peters to take a quarterback with that #2 pick and then lock in that 2-3 year 'grace' period for a young passer to grow and develop.

I don't see Washington trading for Justin Fields. That type of decision puts the greatest pressure on the front office and staff as the team would only have a single season with Fields before deciding on whether to give him the fifth year option.

Steelers sign Patrick Queen, 3 years @ $41M.
From all that I have read, that is a sweet deal for the Steelers. I mean, most estimates I saw had Queen getting well over twice that for 5 years.

Might be the steal of free agency so far.

I think some of the apprehension over Queen was the tie up re his productivity vis a vis playing next to Roquan Smith the past couple of years.

Is Queen's productivity in 2022 and 2023 at least in part due to the presence of Smith?

I think it was hard for some teams to measure that.

But since the Steelers play Baltimore so often and have a good read on the Ravens, it does look as if they could have gotten a steal.

I remember the Steelers trading for Minkah Fitzpatrick from Miami a few years ago when it appeared he was a disappointment as a #1 pick, and once he came to Pittsburgh he has been an all pro.

Dante Fowler has been with Quinn going back to college days. He's a good third down rush specialist.

Quinn was the recruiter responsible for bring Fowler to UF. I was pissed at the time because Fowler was committed to FSU through the entire cycle and flipped on signing day.

I ultimately got over it with the help of a NC.
