Carolina is sure looking like the successor to the Dan Snyder show re free agents :LOL:

So, I am guessing - 4 year contract for $60M with $40M guaranteed?
 
Peters is leaving no stone unturned right now.

Who/what would we like to add in FA the rest of the way?

Personally, if Jonah Williams is willing to come in on a reasonable deal and fight it out with Wylie at RT, I think that could be of benefit. An experienced swing Tackle would be nice and obviously some Safety help.
 
Williams has a low grade from PFF. I reviewed his details when I misstook him for Jonah Jackson in another thread and I think he was the #55 rated OT in 2023.

I think Wylie was rated #58.
 
Keep in mind Williams also switched over to RT last year. I am not going to pretend to know if that is an easy transition or not - just speculating as to a possible reason for the down year. Whoever it is, there definitely needs to be someone brought in to push/replace Wylie.

You are right. Williams played LT for the first 3 years of his career and asked for a trade when he was moved to RT after Orlando Brown came in to the Bengals. He had a career worst year in 2023.

He has stated he does NOT want to play RT, so we are looking at a player for LT if we are interested in him.

His previous grade was in the high 70's at LT so he was a above average performer but not elite.

The questions is do you want to pay him $17-20M or go into the draft deep with OTs and take one with #36 or #40 or both and pay $1.3M?
 
Just like the Snyder Redskins, the Panthers don't want to keep any of their own players. They aren't sexy enough :rolleyes:

Chinn has had some injury issues. But at 6'3 and 221 with 4.45 speed and cover skills, he looks like a player we can use ;)

1 year at $5M.

Guess we won't be paying Kam Curl $14-16M a year.

Not exactly a ball hawk but certainly cheaper.

The stats are very close. Neither one is an interception machine, but good tacklers and capable of playing in tight or down the field.
 
Sounds like he’s made for the buffalo nickel role. Better near the LOS than in coverage.

I have him penciled in at SS (ahead of Martin, for now).

But I also have a traditional 3 LB, 4 DB set up for the first 11. Whitt might want to go 2 and 5.

Chinn is big enough to be nearly be a LB so...

And, after listening to both Whitt and Quinn, I'm guessing we will see the "starting" lineup change depending on the opponent.
 
Something I've not seen commented on much at all is that we are not giving out long contracts. So far, no one has gotten anything longer than 3 years.

That tells me we are bringing in guys who can fill holes and make the team more competitive now but still leaving room for us build through the draft over the next several years.

The shorter-term deals, 1 and 2 years, appear to be either "show me something" deals like in the case of Ferrell & Chinn or age-related as in the case of Ekeler who will be 29 when the season starts.

While the 2024 roster will be massively different from that of 2023, I anticipate significant change in '25 and '26 as well.

I would imagine you can cut those deals in half and that's the 'real' deal.

It's abundantly clear that we now have people working the cap to the advantage of the health of the team. If this is legit, it's more evidence.
