I will say I'm glad that there obviously was a plan and they were ready to jump. Spielman sounds like a good NFL sort. Vikings have been considered a pretty talented team though they've not had much playoff success.

Myers has reportedly already reached out to Jim Harbaugh's agent. I think that's just due diligence, establishing some contact in case that's a direction the eventual GM wants to pursue. I think having to hire a new GM will put Harbaugh out of reach even if he's a prime candidate simply because other teams who only need a HC will be able to move much more deftly.

Even though I think Harbaugh immediately turns things around on the field, I don't think his abrasive personality is something Harris would be attracted to. He seems to blow up eventually everywhere he goes, and we don't need that kind of turmoil. But again, all he does is win, so maybe that outweighs other factors?

I’m trying to work and refresh every time I get a small break. This is reminiscent of 2013 after the Griffin injury in the playoffs, just waiting for the news.

I think I'm in the minority on BGO when it comes to not wanting Harbaugh.

Obviously good coach.
Obviously great track record on multiple levels.

I just feel wary of any retread and worry his philosophy is too old school. I want the next great not someone trying to recapture past glory. Hiring Harbaugh would smell of hiring Schottenheimer, Gibbs, Shanny, and Rivera to me.

Yeah, the college game is not the NFL, but he clearly knows how to build a team that can win. For me, the concerns are all surrounding his temperment and personality which seem to be pretty volatile. I'm not sure 'volatile' is something this group will want to take a huge risk on. But again, who knows?

He is intriguing simply because you cannot deny - he wins wherever he goes. That ultimately is what this franchise has lacked for 30 years, so you've got to at least look at him imho.
 
I am not expecting much more to come out today or this week, until we've got a GM or HC there's not much I can think of that'd be that newsworthy unless someone "demands a trade" etc. which that seems early for as well.

As far as Harbaugh, he's making 8.25 million at Michigan and is treated as a king and if they win the NC a freakin legend, would his ego let him leave that and how much would he ask? I'm not a fan of Harbaugh's, I think the control he'd want is too much and at Michigan, it's all his call. For reference on how much he might cost, here's the top 10 HC salaries for the 2023 season.

I suppose. The rationalization I would work my head around if he became the guy is that the difference between him, Shanny, Rivera and the others is he is winning now. You could make an argument that many of the Snyder hires were winners who won big. I mean Shanny and Gibbs won multiple Super Bowls. Gibbs then went on to win in NASCAR. Spurrier was intriguing because he was consider innovative and a winner (although we all knew he was a craps throw).

Still, this is not a fight for today. Today is a day to look towards hope.
 
Andy Reid needs a raise. Sean Payton making $18M? What a joke. This guy is done as a coach.
 
Winning now is a pretty big factoid though :)

I believe we've heard it reported that Harbaugh's agent has stated he would not demand full control in a potential return to the NFL, but that's just what I've seen reported.
 
Harbaugh has not been in the NFL since 2014 so I would imagine he won't have full control over personnel, at least initially.

Perhaps he comes in as a Joe Gibbs and then after wining a Super Bowl starts to take over more and more responsibility until the GM is either moved upstairs or crowded out?

We all know that once a coach wins a Super Bowl or more he tends to get more control over 'shopping for the groceries'.

The one exception is Baltimore where the team maintains its structure regardless of season to season wins and losses.

That's one reason the organization has been the most stable since they last won the Super Bowl against San Francisco and why it is reported that Harris looks at them as the model to follow.
 
The only ones who deserve a stay of execution are the members of the marching band.

I guessed that Spielman and Co. haven't been sitting there waiting for the announcement on Ron.

5 or 6 weeks ago they were already developing and refining a list of candidates for each position and a strategy to get them on board.
