Raheem Morris on the list.... really. The guy stunk it up as a Head Coach.
 
They don't have to interview Raheem if they were to interview Eric. And they don't need to ask anyone to interview him
 
Important points of the Rooney Rule-

  1. Clubs must interview at least two diverse candidates from the Career Development Advisory Panel list, or a diverse candidate not currently employed by the club.
  2. Clubs must conduct an in-person interview with at least one external minority candidate for any GM or head coaching interview.
 
I'm not quite as high on poaching Kansas City's braintrust. On the one hand, they've done a great job of building a talented defense. On the other, they have not been as successful at replacing the talent they've let walk. Maholmes covers up a lot of sins, but his receivers are dropping a ton of balls and seem mediocre. So, I'm just not sure how great they are at identifying talent?
 
Don't forget that Andy Reid has a LARGE say in who the Chiefs draft and sign in free agency.

While he is not Bill Belichick, he has his hands in most of the pies being baked in KC.

When Tyreek Hill and then Ju Ju Smith Schuster left the club, one would have to think that Reid is the one that decided NOT to draft replacements right away and go with more cost effective players whose performances have been uneven.

The other factor in KC is Patrick Mahomes' salary. He was initially paid $45M a year but he went back and had his agent tell the Chiefs he wanted a bump and they had to give him an additional $7M a year to $52M.

That money has to come from somewhere.

Perhaps a down year where the team gets booted from the playoffs earlier than expected will be a lesson for Mahomes not to be so greedy.

If you want to stay on top and have talented players around you throughout your career you are going to have to do what Brady, Elway and others did in taking less money to win more.
 
I wonder why this candidate list is so heavily weighted towards the defensive side of the ball?

In an era where most of the successful younger assistants being promoted to HC are OC's it appears Washington is set to go in the opposite direction.

A rumor on WFAN seemed to indicate that Dan Quinn would be the first coordinator to get a HC job. I wonder if that means DC?
 
Not gonna minimize Quinn’s accomplishments in Dallas, but he’s the most ‘Rivera-like’ of anyone on our list. Has bounced around the league a ton. His one head coaching gig in Atlanta was a mixed bag despite having a pretty great QB situation (Rivera?). He did get them to a SB and had some other decent seasons. I’m just not sure he’s the best HC candidate on that list.
 
Quinn definitely has that Norv Turner, Wade Phillips, Josh McDaniels look to his career. Fantastic coordinator, consistently one of the best in the league, but not a good head coach. I’m sure he will get a second chance, but I don’t want it to be here. Maybe he figures it out, but that’s the impression I always got from him.
 
I believe that I could coach the talent on the Dallas defense. 😉

I personally don’t desire anyone with ties to that franchise.
