Official 'It got blowed up what next?' Thread

They will be gone too. Whoever the new coach is will determine if he brings in his own guys or keeps any existing guys.

The 'info' is all over the place right now. Mayhew's fired. Mayhew's being retained for now. One of those is false :)

And Neophyte, what leads you to believe the structure will be Head of Football Operations with a GM and HC reporting to him/her? I think the article above is just using the 'Head of Football Operations' as a synonym for 'GM'...

I think Meyers is a transitional figure. Spielman could be the next Team President.

Ultimately, they will hire a GM and head coach.

Washington won't be able to interview a number of their preferred candidates that are currently on playoff teams for a couple of weeks so I think these guys are being brought in to get things moving forward and not waste the next 7-14 days.

Martin Mayhew per WFAN is OUT as GM. He and Rivera were the only two to be fired so far this AM.

I'm sure that's right although rumors are that Harris really likes Hurney. I'm just trying to clarify the reports which are conflicting right now. That's the problem with Twitter and current sports reporters. Everyone wants to be first which results in incorrect information being put out there.

I don't think you hire Myers and Spielman to find the new leadership if one of them is the new leadership. And I *believe* they can interview GM candidates now if the team that currently employs them okays it (at least virtually)?

What I see though is both Spielman and Hurney (age 67) are guys that don't necessarily want to be hands-on GMs at this stage, so I see either as a Team President or other executive role.

I think the nuts and bots managers are yet to be hired.

Teams like San Francisco and Buffalo are making it difficult to interview candidates from their organizations from what I have heard.

Spielman to me is going to be with the team but again a Team President (like a Mike McCormick with the 49ers in the 1980's) doesn't have day to day responsibilities re personnel and from what I recall Spielman didn't want a 24/7 role after leaving Minnesota.

These guys are the Council of Elders IMO.

Gonna be a crazy few months and we're like 15 minutes in...

Characterizing the Myers, Spielman hires (with Magic Johnson also apparently involved) as a small 'advisory committee' which implies temporary at least for now. And it specifically says 'Two important roles for this organization' so that means GM and HC would seem to be the structure?

Per Keim, Mayhew has not been fired. Schefter is very fast and loose with the facts for a guy with his ties. He literally reported within a 2 minute period that Mayhew was fired and that he would be retained to help with the transition.

To be honest one has to believe that with his executive experience in the NFL that Spielman has already identified candidates with Harris and they have a target list to to move on as soon as possible.

The team is still looking for a GM and coach. I don't see Harris or anyone on this search committee stepping forward to say any of these 'council of elders' is taking on a specific role in those capacities.

I want to hear 'we will be rebranding' this week :)

Yep, time to get rid of those Walmart uniforms with the stenciled 'W' on the side of the helmet as a logo.

It looks like the uniforms of a college team.

The Black and Gold are STEELERS colors, gotta get rid of that one.

So from what I gather, it seems like Harris is hiring a group of people who have a track record of success in pro sports to identify/select the people who will oversee the rebuilding of our franchise from the ground up.

Empowerment is the polar opposite of what we watched unfold in Washington for 25 years and I am going to sit back, eat some popcorn, and be fascinated at how all this plays out. The early signs are promising though - Josh is clearly sending a message that he not Dan. Let's go.

What's cool about it is the absolute absence of ego in how he's starting. Most owners, especially new ones, would feel compelled to make all the big decisions themselves. It would never occur to them to bring in guys who are smarter, savvier, and more experienced to lead the way. I have no doubt Harris will make the final call, but if you want *different* this is about as polar opposite from the Dan Snyder method you could ever hope for.

Okay, I'm intrigued and don't really know what to make out of plucking people from the NBA. On the one hand some of the organizing skills are probably generizable, but on the other I would guess Myers lacks the institutional knowledge specific to football itself. He's going to require a great staff.

That's why he's being paired with Spielman - who knows the NFL inside and out.
