I may be getting off topic a topic a bit and people may not agree, but I think most people hate rich people for these reasons.
1. Envy - it’s always the biggest reason whether people admit it or not. They wish they had what this other person has, the power they have, the fame, etc. Everyone says they would do this or that if they were in charge. That’s just a form envy if you really think about it.
2. They or someone they know worked for a company and didn’t like it - This could range from direct harassment all the way down to just not liking the job they had. Obviously if someone was directly harassed or hurt by the CEO, most everyone would understand and have sympathy. It’s why we are here today discussing a sale. But the face of that company is blamed even for small matters that they may have no say in. I have sympathy for people in this group having worked for 2 large companies and not having a high opinion of the CEOs after some things that happened. But I’m some cases, it is exaggerated and the good things are overlooked. I’ll admit I fall into that category. I fail to see the good things when my job is frustrating and blame the bad on the CEO who is like 9 levels away from me.
3. Someone told them to hate the rich person - This could be a casual conversation, but generally this flows from social media. If people are hating the rich guy, you don’t want to be the one to say “well, he’s not that bad” and then get the social media mob coming after you. So the social media pressure builds to hate a certain person or people in a certain position.
4. Most successful people are wired differently - You have to have a certain mindset to get to the top. A lot of times, that means you sacrifice your friends and family. They also may not be the most approachable because they have a goal of being number 1. Yes, this means they could be just flat out evil and corrupt, but other times it just may be that they don’t know how to relate to people because they have forsaken those relationships for success. The issue for the rest of us becomes we just assume that they are ALL evil people bent on world domination. Some are, not all are.
There is my social rant for the day. I don’t care who the owner is personally. I do care if they have integrity and can build a winning organization that translates to success on the field. The rest of the stuff is just noise to me.
