Agree on depth and am guessing he’s a special teams contributor. Don’t know anything about the G but depth is ALWAYS a must, especially after last yr’s run of injuries.
 
They should probably roll the dice on any remaining decent lb’s & dt’s with the UDFA’s.

Milo Eifler
De'Jon Harris
Cole Holecomb
Khaleke Hudson
Jordan Kunaszyk
David Mayo

I am...underwhelmed.

Somebody said we might be switching to 3-4.
If we are, we're in even deeper trouble than we thought.
I hope we're switching to 5-2

I hope we're not banking on one of our starters becoming available to us on that basis, since there's so much uncertainty revolving around whether certain players would be available.
But I think you might be onto something - perhaps that June cut might be our own, and there is a verbal agreement with Landon Collins that he comes back at a reduced salary, and fills a LB need ? I can only hope, because I can't think of anything else that's both realistic, and more promising than that.
 
Some interesting things hitting Twitter right now about guys signing with Washington as UDFA. The most interesting I've seen so far is Southeastern Lousiana QB Cole Kelley.

Seems a certain podcast crew might have talked about him just this last Wedesday.

You may not be far off. I think with the trend of more 3 WR sets, they could be playing more nickel. So 4-2-5, which would mean less linebackers needed on the field. Does anyone have a breakdown on the times they played base vs nickel and dime last year? I wonder if they will be playing more in the nickel to combat the 3 WR sets.

They are betting on the front four holding the trenches because none of those LB's are second level tacklers on the roster. Now did we now piss off Payne or motivate him? We've got decent lateral movement at LB but no one who will put their face mask in the opposing players chin and remember it.

SkinsOrlando, that's exactly why I thought staying where we were and taking Brandon Smith at LB was the way to go.

Instead we moved back and gave a guy with a good grade to someone else.

Washington was vulnerable against the run at times last year and while Mathis is a determined run stopper up front, the linebackers on this team all profile as outside players not inside players. Although I suppose with Davis' less than impressive rookie season he will get a chance to move inside.

But that is more about giving a high profile pick a second chance to validate himself versus any solid evidence he can or will be successful there.
 
These are my questions.
People are now saying things like "Howell was the #2 QB on some boards" or even "Howell was the best QB on some boards"...

If that's the case, then
1) Why didn't we hear the name Howell at all, before the draft ?
2) Why was he the 6th QB taken ? We even heard about QB's like Carson Strong, who wasn't even drafted at all !
3) Why did he drop to the 5th Round ?

So, why did he fall so far, if he was rated so high by these team boards ?
 
I think his talent has been exaggerated because it makes fans feel like we got some amazing value in the 5th. He’s been called a ‘poor man’s Baker Mayfield’. That may not be the greatest compliment in the world when all is said and done. In the end we got a guy cheap who has some ability and possible could be a starter or quality backup some day. His size is one of the reasons he fell and also he lost a ton of weapons and struggled some in 2021.
 
He was viewed as a 2nd round talent

We got him in the 5th. THIS is how you take a flyer on a guy. If Wentz plays effectively and earns the remaining 2 years on his deal, there is no real commitment to Howell.
IF Wentz struggles and Howell proves to be a viable option, you can get out of Wentz scott free after this season
IF Neither proves capable, you can go into next draft with no pressure.

Low risk, high reward pick.
 
To me Sam Howell is Taylor Heinicke with a much better arm.

If that turns out to be true, I’m okay with it.

The answer to your question is yes. The draft grades are based on how these guys make their mock drafts. If a team followed the “experts” mock draft, they got a good grade. If they did something else, it’s a reach and not the smart pick. I’m not going to act like I don’t follow the mock drafts, because I do. But I also know the experts don’t know much either. Most of these guys didn’t get the first 2 picks right.
 
Do we get bonus points for us getting Cole Kelley as a UDFA?
