Random Commanders Thoughts

Pretty great deal for anyone interested

Interesting conversation to have..

People floating a 2nd rounder as a hypothetical. I don't trade Kerrigan. He's 2 sacks away from the team record. He's been here through some really low points and I REALLY like him as a rotational piece.

That said, a 2nd round player can be HUGE in the building of the team....

Is it just me or did I not realize he was that close to the record. He's been steady for sure, but I haven't thought of him like I did Manley and Mann. Maybe it's because they were winning championships along the way. I hate to short change him that way.

Hea definitely been overlooked. Since he came into the league I believe only Von Miller has more sacks then him. He's maybe third but pretty sure he's second.

I love me some Kerrigan. For the record.

With that in mind ... I haven't looked up his splits, but my sense of Ryan has always been that he's at his most productive early in games, but largely ineffective getting meaningful pressures late, when you absolutely, positively have to have it.

Fair or no?

The argument could be made that he's been the ONLY threat on defense so it's not difficult to neutralize him when he's the only thing you need to worry about.

He is however not without his warts. He has found himself pass rushing himself out of the play at times which can drive me crazy. He at times gets easily carried up and out of the play. I think that's a different conversation if we have any smidge of an interior pass rush... which we have been lacking for a long time. I think this year could be different... but it's also unlikely that he's in the game on 3rd and 8 with :30 to go and the opponent is on our 48.

Entirely fair. His sacks and pressures seem to come in clusters, as well. He has one move and if it's nullified, he's done. He can do the corn-fed farmer boy bullrush thing and that seems to be pretty much it.

Sometimes he reminds me of the worst moments of Bruce Smith when he'd wind up just doing a giant semi-circle around the QB, leaving a wide-open hole on the line.

I know this will get me in trouble with some of you, but sack totals aside, I’ve always felt Kerrigan was a little overrated. He is a very good player, but he’s never been a great one. He has never been fast enough or strong enough to make an impact consistently when games are on the line. They have been using him as a pass rusher almost exclusively for most of his career, so he was always going to get his sacks. But the truth is he’s been one of the few consistently good reliable players on teams largely bereft of defensive talent until the past 2 seasons. Been a good player, and he especially deserves credit for his durability, but records or not, not a historic Redskins great imho.

The Kerrigan files.

Durable. Consistent. Leader. Smart. Savvy.

These are the traits of a very good player, but not necessarily elite. He has had to play beyond his talents over the years due to deficiencies in coaching and the talent level of teammates (or lack thereof). That has changed. This will be a very good season for Kerrigan for the opposite two reasons - coaching and talented teammates.

Kerrigan can play a different role this year. And it is what has been lacking on defense for nearly three decades - depth. Kerrigan can come into the games at various times and provide excellent depth. Rotating eight talented defensive linemen is going to keep them fresh and ready to attack the offense throughout the entire game.

Kerrigan could have one of his best seasons ever. Elite? Maybe not. A very good player who could have an excellent 2020? Absolutely.

Does anyone subscribe to a Google Calendar for the team's schedule? I use to be able to find a link for one, but now all I find on the team's website and ESPN is to subscribe through a service that then has access to all your calendars which I don't want to do.

Edit: nm....found it through Google itself

Kind of an aside, is BMitch well? He looks like he has lost a TON of weight.
