Kirk Cousins Development Tracker

At what point does all this nonsense start to cost the team loyal fans? I am already at a point where I don't purchase jerseys or other merchandise. Sadly it is getting to point where I may not watch games.

The players don't care about loyalty the team and the fans. The team doesn't care about loyalty to the players or us. All they care about is how much money will they make.

I am about over all this.

In 2013, after the NFL revealed just how corrupt it was, I took the entire season off. Honestly I didnt miss it. I came back because my son had become a fan and I wasnt going to not watch with him.

Anyway, hes cooled off on the Redskins thanks to this constant bungling and Im not inclined to convince him otherwise. I dont know that Ill stop paying attention completely but I may downshift to reading about games the next day. This team and this league has taken my loyalty for granted for far too long and Ive just about had enough.

Eh, I don't think he's worth that much either.

So when McCoy,Sudfeld or some unknown rookie is leading us to 3-13/4-12 and the Front Office is wandering the wilderness that is free agent QB market, picking among the John Becks and Rex Grossmans of the league....I'll remember Ax saying it's not worth paying a 5000 yd passer market value on a LTD.

That should make the losing that much more palatable.

I see this much like Henry, but I'll add my own little caveat. This is all on the front office. 100%! I don't care if we all think Cousins is greedy, the point is his agent didn't even come with an offer. I believe that means Cousins doesn't want to be here. Why? There is talent enough to be close to something in 3 or 4 years, possibly before if this year's change on defense performs as good as it appears it could. If he signed a LTD and the team really did draft and sign the right players at the few areas of weakness, we could see a NFC Championship with Kirk, provided he gets over his win or go home, game jitters.

It's the structure of the front office, it attracts players like D-Hall, Sanatana Moss, Clinton Portis, not the KirK Cousins of the world. In case you missed the inference, guys like Moss, Portis and Hall, with all the talent in the world, weren't necessarily the most stable guys. They were attracted to Dan's flash. Kirk? He seems like he seeks stability and doesn't see it here or he'd have signed last off-season, or before this deadline.

If I were Burce and Dan, I'd be looking at how to financially absorb another year of making Kirk stay.

I'm with you El on the idea that there's something inherently wrong with the organization - you'd have to be blind not to see it. But not sure what you are talking about lumping Moss and Portis in with DHall. Those guys all played their hearts out for the Redskins and at least in terms of having lengthy stints as starters, were loyal to and appreciative of the franchise. Moss in particular never gladhanded with ownership or campaigned for any special favors with ownership. That seems like a weird argument to make.

I think Cousins feels the Shanahans were run out of town unfairly, and his OC now gone too, has decided he doesn't want to be here. Perhaps McLovin's getting sent played a part too. I think it's pretty obvious he doesn't want to be here. He's got a little bit of RG3 entitlement and ego sensitivity in him, and he's in the driver's seat in terms of leverage.

I think there's almost zero chance he signs up for the long haul after this year. He's going to get a massive offer from someone and we aren't going to be in a position to match it and also keep some of the other young potential stars here.

I'm sort of with DP at this point. This team just seems to want to eff it up. As always, it's not easy being a Redskins fan.

I recently offered my resignation to my boss. She didn't even try to change my mind.

It doesn't take a genius to interpret that.

Looking back, I wonder what would have happened if we transitioned him this year.

Under the transition tag, had Kirk signed elsewhere, the Redskins would have not gotten anything in return. Under the non-exclusive tag, had Kirk signed elsewhere, the Skins would've gotten 2 first round picks as compensation. Transition tags are rarely used anymore simply because if the player signs elsewhere you get nothing. Under a non-exclusive the player is free to negotiate with other teams but if he does sign to another team there's compensation.

Under the Transition, the ability to match offers is what seems attractive.
If Kirk was willing and preferred to play in SF at a discount, the Transition Tag could prevent him from doing so.

The team is effed up, has been for a minute. To me they eff'd up low balling him 2 yrs ago. Whether it's issues from that and or 2nd string to wonder Rob, he may have not accepted a deal then.

However, the team tried to make it right with this contract. Let's face it dude is nowhere near that worth. It's true he's the best qb we've drafted in forever but that's not saying much either.

We may have an abnormal FO situation for sure but I do give them credit for a good/great draft (on paper), & atleast attempting a more than fair ltd with camp Kirk. He doesn't wanna be here & wouldn't be surprised if he never intended to sign long term. i don't feel one ounce of pity for him or his agent Palpatine.

Look at it from another angle folks. We all know the Redskins reputation. We have always won the offseason battle with free agents. We have always paid top dollar, the word in the league was if you wanted the money go to Washington, they always pay the most.

Doesn't anyone remember what that got us? nothing. And we longed for a change in that philosophy. We longed for a change in the owner meddling. We longed for a competent GM. Well.......we got all that, Dan stepped back, they tried the GM and he blew it, they stopped paying ridiculous contracts. And now we want to bury the front office.

I don't get it. You got what you asked for and still want to bitch about it. Kirk showed his ars, plain and simple. He ain't that good. We can move on and I suspect Gruden will have a short leash cause guess what? Kirk has to show me and shut the f up. He's one and done so we'll see how the lockerroom plays out now. That's the only mystery left.

I'm willing to give management the benefit of the doubt, and at least we aren't changing head coaches like a turnstile. We asked for that too, and now we have it. Be happy fellow Redskins fans, its only football, and we simply don't do business like we used to. I'm grateful for that.

You make some good points Win. But I think some of us would argue we're still effing it up, just employing different strategies to get the job done than previously.

Or offered him 19-20Mil instead of 13-16Mil a year, before LAST YEAR!

Now they've paid him 44 over 2 years, when their best offer last year was 24Guaranteed, 16Mil a year.

If Cousins has a great year they'll be tempted to pay him the 33-34Mil next year which would mean they will have paid him 77+ over 3 years when he surely would have signed for close to that for 5 years after 2015 if they weren't still afflicted with chronic rectum/cranial disorder.

Our team is run by imbeciles.

They need to trade Greedy Bastard ASAP.

He'd go straight to 3rd string if it were me. Not a chance in hell I want him to develop a good relationship with Pryor. Whom, on a one year deal, might just choose to follow Greedy Bastard to his next team.

He is now a cancer. We need to jettison his ass.

Without a doubt this team/FO deserves blame. No way in hell we'll ever be ran like the Pats or Steelers in our lifetime. I gotta take a glass 1/2 full approach because the alternative would be swearing off atleast this season, maybe more.

Never know, 2 years from now Suds or one of our 2018 qb draftees may flourish under this new found defense & running game that's being drafted.

At this point all we can do is hope Bruce & company have learned and won't repeat the same mistakes twice. Either that or fire his ass and hire a GM that doesn't drink.

Absolutely the team can match the offer, pretty much like a Restricted Free Agent. But now you are possibly dealing with another team doing your negotiation. So, I get your point, would Washington have matched that contract, if there was an offer extended? And where Kirk's market might have been established at as well as locking him up under a LTC if they matched the deal. It would have been interesting to see what would've happened.

I'd be pretty hesitate to put the transition on a guy unless I was willing to part ways with him however Washington would have held the option to sign or let go. But I'm really not a big risk taker either.

We won the offseason by letting guys like Brad Johnson, Ryan Clark and Antonio Pierce go and then signing guys like Jeff George, Adam Archuletta and Jeremiah Trotter. And you're right. That got us nothing. Not signing our own guys and bringing in someone else's garbage got us nothing.

The competent GM actually did work while he was here. Now that he's gone, business as usual at Redskin park. Our own talent is leaving. Not only leaving, but being alienated and driven out of town.

I don't get it. You got what you asked for and still want to bitch about it. Kirk showed his ars, plain and simple. He ain't that good. Kirk showed us his arse? Really? That's hilarious, especially in light of Bruce Allen's "Hey, it's not our fault" statement with the whole goddam season ahead of us to play. Are you effing KIDDING me? Bruce, is it EVER the team's fault? How many times are the Washington Dan Snyder's going to spend a ton on a QB, chew him up, spit him out, and then blame the poor bastard for not being a team player. It happens every. single. time.

If anyone is showing his posterior, it's the team to us fans. It's embarrassing. The rest of the world can see it, and Redskin fans continue to defend these asshats.

I am absolutely, positively, not ever ever ever going to give this front office the benefit of the doubt, ever. Ever ever ever. They have earned absolutely nothing over the past 17 years. Scott McLoughan bought some, but he's not here. Bruce Allen and Dan Snyder get none.

Gruden is entering Year Four of his tenure here. Hallowed ground reserved for Joe Gibbs and Mike Shanahan. Call me if makes it to Year Five. There's no McLoughan buffer between the him and Allen/Snyder anymore. He's got a QB the front office just threw under the bus, no running game, no defense, and a gutted WR corps. But hey, at least we're under the cap. Someone give Bruce Allen a cookie.

The argument is more about their inability to see a loser right in front of them. Not that their stupid, maybe naive or even ok with the status quo of this organization. Cousins is smart enough to see the fallacies and move on as soon as he gets the chance. Those guys? they're all still holding on to this organization, even after they're gone. What is the attraction to the organization for these guys? Why do guys like Cousins, Garcon, and a number of others move on?

I understand loyalty, and that can be applauded, but what are they loyal to? The party atmosphere we keep hearing out of Redskins' Park keeps ringing in my head. Fred Smoot?

That sort of "run out of town" thing is part of the dysfunction. Mike Shanahan is not blam'ess, but if those ****ing idiots in the front office could have pulled their heads out of their asses long enough, they'd have been able to see that Kyle was being groomed for a future here, coupled with a great DC...that could have been a winning combination.

I think there's almost zero chance he signs up for the long haul after this year. He's going to get a massive offer from someone and we aren't going to be in a position to match it and also keep some of the other young potential stars here.

Cousins is gone, but how he goes is the question. They better do everything to give him a team to win this season so when next off-season comes they can tag him for the transition tag. He plays for 28 million for another season...what an exta 3-4 million? seems like what they plannned...or we get solid compensation for him.

Qb- agreed
No running game- yet to be determined
No defense- yet to be determined
Gutted WR corp- yet to be determined

I'm ok with that assessment.

My opinion, however, is that 'yet to be determined' means 'don't have that' until proven otherwise. Especially with the running game and the defense. Neither one of those areas has been any good under Gruden. He doesn't seem to care if he establishes a running game, and the defense has just been terrible since 2010. There's no reason outside of 'hey, we drafted guys' to think things will be different there this year. And every team drafts guys.

The WRs I'm a little less down on. But losing TWO thousand-yard receivers in one season ... is just crazy. I can't see any way to assume the new crew will be as good as the last one. That doesn't mean the WRs will suck, just that I don't know that they will be able to carry the team like they did last year. Again 'yet to be determined' ... meh.
