I really don't think we have an NFL quality, starter on our team...and that includes Jones. I was very disappointed at the limited time I saw from him.

Because we're going into the season with too many unprovens...not a single one has started 3 consecutive NFL games.

Unless you believe the loss of Almo was catastrophic, how is that different from last year? You don't think our current RB talent includes some exciting prospects? In 2015 it was Jones (still a Redskin with another year under his belt), Almo, Chris Thompson (still a Redskin with another year under his belt), Pierre Thomas, and Darrel Young.

This year, it's Jones, Thompson, Kelley, Brown, and Keith Marshall (depending on injury status).

I'm mystified how that's assessed as worse. I think it may well be a major improvement in talent level.

Im not judging anything on the preseason. Ive noted several times that our RB corps consists of Jones, who was mediocre at best last season as a first and second down back, and has suffered his second injury in less than two seasons, Thompson, who cant start and cant stay healthy, and undrafted rookie and a second year practice squad guy. Thats a terrible lineup and it has nothing to do with preseason.

And our running was not ok. It was putrid. We were 30th in yards per attempt. And we have added noone of any consequence at RB. I really really really ... really ... really hope that Gruden commits to one RB this season to take the load and allow the line to find a comfort zone with someone. I figure that would be Jones. Sadly, i have no faith and seen no evidence that Gruden (or Callahan or whomever) will actually do this or that Jones will be able to stay upright long enough for it to happen. I expect a lot of foodling about with a bunch of sub-par RBs producing not much of a running game.

So my second hope is that Cousins is as awesome as Tom Brady and we have a top ten defense to go with that like the Pats did last year so we can have a crap running game and get away with it. And then we can say we have a top four offense or whatever.

We'll see.

I have to say Im mystified that a couple undrafted free agents and a seventh round pick (Didnt the Redskins just put Marshall on IR?) are somehow seen as a major improvement in talent level over anything, or exciting prospects of any kind ... unless we look at pre-season performance which I thought we just established we, you know, shouldnt do.

Honestly, i dont really watch the pre-season. Its pointless. Ive watched maybe 30 minutes of all four games combined. Maybe some of you are seeing something Im not. But I dont put a lot of stock in it.

I've stated that judging an offense or defense in a game where the goal isn't even to win, but to practice situational football and evaluate individual talent, is silly. But you can certainly assess raw talent. I just don't see the logical argument that we should expect the running game to be worse this year?

And I look at this group of RBs and am absolutley baffled that any team would consider going into the regular season with them. Every single one is a HUGE question mark. Jones is the only one I would think might possibly someday be a starter in this league and he's not particlarly inspiring, and hes hurt again.

How does anyone look at this group and NOT see a disaster? At this point we just have to.hope for luck, and that someone bucks historical trends and actually performs like a starter.

Hell, Morris did it in 2012. Maybe one of these guys will. I hope for it, but I certainly dont EXPECT it.

Your view is bolstered a lot by Marshall going down. Marshall had the 3rd fastest combine 40 time in a decade. He averaged more than 5yds/carry his last season at Georgia and many considered him an absolute steal in the late draft. He may be a starter one day if he comes back healthy. I still like the other young guys. Brown especially has some serious shiftiness.

Your comment about getting lucky with Almo just makes the point. Of course we can't 'count' on a less heralded back becoming a starter, but it's not winning the lottery when it happens. Every season there are backs drafted late who shine.

And I'm just going to keep saying it. We don't need a great running game to win.

I don't think he needs to play out of his mind for the team to be successful, he just needs to play like he did for the second half of the season last year which is a realistic expectation.

Also, I think the team has more confidence in Jones than many of you seem to. He showed some real potential last year, but made some serious rookie mistakes. Hopefully he'll be sharper this year with experience.

I'm not as certain as I make myself out to be btw Who the hell knows? But there was equal certainty from many before last season that Kirk could never become a consistent QB or overcome his turnover tendencies. Those doubts were wrong.

My position is part Devils advocate and part just trying to counter what I see as concern over a part of the game that is less important with every passing year.

He played like a top 5 QB over that stretch. Im not sure he quite that good yet. I like him and I think he'll play well. Im just not sure he'll play THAT well for 16 games. I could be wrong, but on the off chance Im not it would be nice to have an ok run game to help Kirk out when hes not awesome.

Clearly the team likes Jones more than I do. I hope hes sharper this year, but more importantly i hope he can stay on the field.

Eh. Me too.

I just try to temper some of the unbridled enthusiasm I see from time to time. I don't see a dark cloud over everything.
