REDSKINS ACQUIRE C BRYAN STORK

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The Washington Redskins announced today that they have acquired center Bryan Stork from the New England Patriots in exchange for an undisclosed draft pick.

Stork (6-4, 310) initially entered the NFL as a fourth-round pick (105th overall) of the Patriots in the 2014 NFL Draft. He has appeared in 21 career regular season games with 17 starts in addition to starting all four postseason games in which he has played.

Last season, Stork appeared in eight regular season games with six starts – five at center and one at right tackle – after missing the first seven games of the season while on the Patriots’ Reserve/Injured list with a designation to return. He also started both postseason contests for New England at center.

As a rookie in 2014, Stork played in 13 regular season games with 11 starts at center. He also started both postseason contests in which he appeared, including the Patriots’ Super Bowl XLIX victory against the Seattle Seahawks.

Stork played collegiately at Florida State, where he started 41 of the 51 contests in which he appeared. In 2013, he was the recipient of the Rimington Trophy, awarded annually to the nation’s top center.

Stork, 25, attended Vero Beach (Fla.) H.S. He was born Nov. 15, 1990.

I was just on ESPN 980 and they were reporting that Stork is coming to Washington and will not be retiring.

A conditional #7 pick to get a 25 year old starter at a position of clear need?

That's a chance I think most GM's take.

Go Noles!

I guess we didn't want him hitting the waiver wire. Wasn't he released just last night? MacGloughan must have been on the phone first thing before any official release.

I don't see much risk here either. I hope we go after Karlos Williams, too.

if the guy contemplated retirement just because he's now playing for us I'd rather pass. I know it's only a 7th but attitude is everything.

Some say it had something to do with his long-term health, considering he's had 4 concussions in 4 years. And some say it was just the trade itself. Havn't heard anything about it being specifically because of the Skins.

Actually - the story seems to be that he was simply shocked and upset about being traded and has now calmed down.

It's an extremely low risk high reward move.

He's had another concussion during the pre-season.

And, has a history of them.

NE obviously didn't expect him to last the season.

This reeks of a desperation move because it's obvious the o-line is not getting the job done.

Desperation would have been trading for an aging player, giving entirely too much for him. This is a "conditional" 7th round pick for a player who is only 25 and started on a Super Bowl team.

I am as disenchanted by our lack of interior line help on both sides of the ball, but you're exaggerating this move.

I'm guessing the "conditional" part is how much this guy actually plays during the season. Extremely low risk on this move.

It reeks of desperation. Sorry. This is NE's trash...and our FO thinks he's better than anything we have.

You are sorry :)

He was a solid starter. Yeah - he's had concussion issues. So has Jordan Reed. Wanna argue we're doomed because of that? The rumors as to why he was traded? They have a younger healthier guy of equal talent behind him. He had another concussion at a closed practice today. He got in another fight with a teammate today. Brady doesn't feel he communicates well with him. He 'gives away' the snap count with a head bob too often. Who knows?

What I do know is that you have no idea why the team picked him up. None. You just think you do. The simplest explanation is the one I've already given. He's a starting quality NFL center. That's not my opinion, that's a fact. For his youth and talent level, the Patriots gave him away.

It's legitimate to ask why they gave him away. But Belichick isn't infallible. And sometimes guys just need a change of scenery. It was a no-brainer for the Redskins. If it works out, it's a genius pickup. If it doesn't, we give up next to nothing.

tr1, do you understand what a conditional 7th round means? It means we bring this guy in...if he doesn't make the team...we likely won't lose the 7th, if he does, so we lose a 7th round pick next year. If he comes in and produces better than any other center on the team, and gives us solid C play for a season or 2...the 7th round pick was worth it.

That is the exact opposite of desperation...you're exaggerating.

Well, that's one way of looking at it. I'm looking at it as NE getting rid of a huge liability. A guy whose chronic injury occurred again just this pre-season.

The kid should probably retire from football for his own health.

What ever happened to Scot's philosophy of building from the draft?

More 'suckers choice' arguments. Building with the draft and using free agency and/or low risk trades aren't mutually exclusive. Smart teams do all those things.

He hasn't been named a starter. No one of any authority has even hinted he's slated to start. All assumptions. Even if he can manage to be a very solid backup, it's a steal. You'd rather have
Josh.
****ing.
LeRibeus?

He's a hot head player that has deficiencies...including a penchant for concussions. You need to read up about the guy. And, it does reek of desperation if this guy, just let go basically by NE, will step in and be our starter.

I think it's a bad move.

I gave you my reasons. We're all entitled to our opinions.

And you've been bitching and moaning about the need for help along the interior of either line, we bring one in for little compensation, and you bitch an moan about that.

You're right, he may never work out...we'll give him a chance for nothing more than the cost of camp fodder for next year. That is only desperation in your mind...I as well as others believe you are exaggerating.

Edit: And I did read up on him, probably all the same stuff you read.

Fools gold.

You don't replace trash with trash. He's a liability. Short fuse. His temper over the team. You need to read up about him.

Come down of your lofty perch there big guy...I am sure I read the same about him as you did. You're simply over reacting to the info we've both seen.

Oline weakness is an argument for this move, not against it. You want to criticize the team for a weak Oline while simultaneously criticizing them for making moves to strengthen the Oline.

Which is it?

Keep ignoring the inarguable fact that there is zero risk with this move. If you're right, we lost nothing.

I'm looking at Stork as about an even player with whomever we have. He's not an answer. He's not a diamond in the rough. He's going to turn out to be a liability.

Maybe, maybe not... but he still has to actually make the team first. If he doesn't, nothing lost.

I sure am glad you do not run our front office...if you did, we'd have the drama queen running around trying to figure out where he is.

Stork is a 300 lber.
He was center on an ACC Champion team.
He was a unanimous All American.
He won the Rimington Award as most outstanding college center.
He was center on a National Championship team.
He was center on a Super Bowl Championship team.
He started 11 games for the Pats in his rookie year and 3 playoff games.

Which center is it exactly currently on our roster who has that pedigree?

He got hurt in 2015 and missed the first two months of last year. Concussion history, outbursts with teammates are concerns. But this kid can play.

We've lost motivation for looking for a center going deeper into the preseason.

I just don't like the guy. Besides, we ought to be looking for a freakin' veteran RB!

Another sucker's choice. We can still sign a veteran RB - if that is even on the radar (assumption).
