Random Commanders Thoughts

That's not hubris motivating those chances it's competitive drive. This is exactly the problem with this silly debate... a whole lot of conclusion jumping based on little or no evidence.

I am really tired of someone who is supposed to be moderating this place taking shots at persons with differing points of view. This is twice I've read you attacking a poster, today. You call it silly with little or no evidence when all over the NFL world the word is out about this kid being arrogant and incapable of reliving his glory from his rookie year. You act like I am an outlier, when the reality is he is no longer considered a threat in the NFL. It's widely accepted and your willful blindness is boring.

He's a little cocky to be sure but as Ax said; all or most of the young kids coming in are. ALL Heisman trophy and rookie of the year winners are. Saying hubris (as if his is exceptional) caused those injuries is a MAJOR stretch. You just don't like the kid E. He made those plays because he wanted to win and thought he could pull them off, not because he has a Superman complex. Megalomania? Really, you truly believe he is megalomaniacal?

Those who are a little cocky do not go out and try to "brand" their moniker. Smart business? Ha! How does the RG3 brand look today?

And I don't see the great ones going all out in dangerous situations in the 2nd game of a long season against one of the worst teams in the league. If you can't see this kid has one speed, all out and that is why he will never stay healthy in this league...you're just ignoring this kid's history over the last 5 years. 3 serious injuries in 5 years. How's that "making a play" working out for him? ...forrest/trees. You have to understand when to lay it all on the line and when to throw the ball away.

You're wrong, I do not dislike the kid personally, I simply do not like what he represents to our organization...another failed attempt to grab lightning in a bottle. I called it prior to drafting him and I have been proven correct. I simply possess the arrogance to shove it in your face when you're wrong...so I am a bit of an expert on arrogance. Yes, I believe he is a narcissist.

Not to spark things further, but if Griffin played for another team, the terminology used when describing him would be exponentially more colorful. I think the biggest point here is that we're having the same conversations now as we did 12 months ago. Debating whether or not Griffin was the answer as our franchise QB, and that in itself is disheartening, and concerning. I've seen a few reports of national media showing a level of support for him, but the vast majority of the national coverage is gone. No more "all in for week 1' specials on ESPN. IMHO this is because the rest of the country has a LOT of doubts about him. I could be totally off base about that... who knows. One thing I do know is that he's had moments in the past that have rubbed me the wrong way with the public exposure he's brought upon himself. Does it make him a bad person? Not by any stretch... but it does bring attention to him, as well as expectations to the team around him that I feel are unnecessary... at least until he proves he's 2012 Griffin...

You don't want to go down this path and you've been as aggressive as anyone in this thread. Staff members get to have opinions too - get over it.

Absolutely not true...and the ones who do...many back it up or they are just as guilty as RG3.
Obviously, I believe it is true. The extent to which they show it, outwardly, may vary. But almost all athlete's feel invincible. i.e. Superman. Especially the younger ones. But many older ones do as well. That's why so many play too long.

Hell, Favre thought he was still Superman years after retirement. Theismann thought he was Superman up until the second his leg snapped. He also, BTW, changed his name in college to enhance his marketable value.

Fate, as much as anything, will determine whether Robert will stay healthy. You may believe that that fate, is predetermined. I do not.

Everyone but the author apparently.

that's his problem!

if you want to quantify this...sorta...I'm sure it would be easy to go back, look at all the mock drafts and find the average number of mocks that predicted Jameis as the Tampa pick. I have no doubt in claiming that it would be over 50%. True, these aren't the draft boards. but the draft boards and mocks are not independent. many of the folks working the two ends have established relationships and communications that go back years. moreover, Tampa was repeatedly reported as looking most persistently and in depth at Winston....not Mariotta.

anywho, I guess the actual outcome doesn't carry much weight in the analysis/validation here! so...let's just press to what's in front of us.

I only commented on the article you posted because the author's hypothesis was ultimately incorrect, fan. Having watched every game the qb played in his college career, in its entirety, I am comfortable with the feeling that I have a better grip on his strengths and shortcomings than most analysts, sports writers, and members here. Short of another off the field incident, Winston was clearly going to be the first qb off the board.

Has mariotta even signed?

Not yet. His agent and the team are still haggling over the offset terms of the contract.

Man, I thought with this new structure there wasn't much you could argue or demand. Another rookie being an idiot.

Chris...and this isn't a jab....you could be right. for me, he's not our QB so it's not a high visibility item.

I am not a moderator. Opinions are one thing, no one is saying staff is not permitted an opinion, it's disingenuous of you to claim otherwise. But you do demand respect and he lacks it at times of those it is demanded of. This thread not being the only time I have seen it in just a matter of days.

You said all young players have it and I tell you the Alfred Morris probably does not think he's superman...just saying.

Predetermined fate? What are you talking about? If I run head first into a wall, repeatedly...I guess the injuries I sustain are because of fate?

The kid plays with reckless abandon...it is not fate that gets him injured...it's his inability to protect himself. He just doesn't seem smart enough. Which flies in the face of all we've heard about him, getting his degrees in shorter than normal time frames.

Yawn...same ole same ole, don't you get tired of being so annoyed and angry around here? I never took a shot at you, I said your stance here is silly and I believe that to be so. If that displeases you, so be it. If I took a shot at you I would have gone on to explicitly break down your poor behavior around here, why it's wrong and the fact that this joint has been pretty peaceful and folks have gotten along very well in your absence. If I called you a name or two...that's taking a shot at someone. Accurately describing their take as silly (when you call this kid a Megalomaniac it's absurd to me, it's truly silly) is part of debating, not taking a shot. You are kidding yourself if you think you trying (key word TRYING) to shove it in my face is as successful as you assert . Like I said, it's silly because you are making statements about his state of mind and personality when all you know about the kid is what microscopic amount he allows the media to be privy to. In short you don't know the kid at all but have been making definitive, judgmental comments about his personality since the day he was drafted. Have you even met him?

And yes when I get a post directed at me that's condescending and insulting and tries to explain what a downhill back is to me like I don't already know it, then I'm going to step up and defend my position. I don't check my personal right to an opinion at the door when I become a mod and I don't have to put up with bull directed at me personally either. If I was insulted in the process my response might be a bit chippy. I am human and that IS reasonable.

Also I see player after player after player that make sure we see their face as much as possible. The fact that they didn't actually apply a self made brand name to their commercial exploits makes little to no difference, They are still promoting their "brand". You are splitting hairs. HUNDREDS of players have an actual brand they promote, Soccer, Baseball, Basketball, Gymnastics Figure Skating Hockey and yes even football players. What's probably most surprising about it is you won't admit you don't like the kid (so you like Megalomaniacs?). If that is the case I'd sure hate to see your melt when you do address a player on the team you don't like.

Oh last thought...the great ones go all out ALL THE time. The Randy Mosses and Albert Haynesworths of the world pick and choose when to turn it on, not the Rices, Browns, Peytons, Sanders, Montanas, Unitas' and Marinos (or the Jordan's and Bird's if you like) of the world. Like I said...just silly. Could RG be smarter about when he takes chances? You bet but dialing down the competitive fire is not something alpha athletes can do. They don't have a dial they have a switch that says on or off and it goes down to stupid things like checkers and jenga. Characterizing his play as reckless is fair but all of the shots at his personality and personal approach to all things football is just not supported by fact and I will continue to take issue with those things the same way I would for any other athlete that gets it.

I simply possess the arrogance to shove it in your face when you're wrong...so I am a bit of an expert on arrogance.

That's a great point of pride. You're proud of this but then are indignant when someone comes back at you?

Please.

None of us is above a reminder to soften our tone - but as I've said a thousand times, if folks worried half as much about their own posting style as they do everyone else's, it would be a lot friendlier place.

He's not, outwardly. I'll give you that. But, if he's truly not, just like his 6th round status, he is the exception, not the rule.

And I am not a fan of either Favre or especially Theissman...for whom I have a personal disdain because of the way he treated my wife.
The point was not them, specifically. Just older players in general. And, if Theismann, or anybody else, treated my wife in a way I didn't like, I'd feel the same way you do. I still say most athletes, especially the young, believe themselves as indestructible. Kinda like me with bunch of tequila in me. Ten feet tall, and bullet proof.

Predetermined fate? What are you talking about? If I run head first into a wall, repeatedly...I guess the injuries I sustain are because of fate?
Predetermined in that, you are already convinced he will be injured, on every next play. I am not. Maybe didn't splain myself well.

Lots of people play with reckless abandon. All the great ones do. They all do not get hurt. Yes he needs to improve at protecting himself. I think he's better than he was his rookie year. But he still needs to progress in that area. I'd rather have a guy that goes all out, all the time, than someone who shy's away.

Dance like nobody's watching.
Play like you can't be stopped.

Those are GOOD traits, in my book, my friend.

Ax, with all due respect, the great ones do not play with reckless abandon like RG3 does. Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers all know that they can throw the ball away and try it again the next down. RG3 has a very hard time distinguishing...and I will even admit, after two serious injuries in the NFL he has gotten better than his rookie year, I mean did you see him slide last year after his return from the ankle injury? ;)

I am just tiring of the lengths people will go to defend his play and ignore his narcissism. Of the people on this board, I can tell you I have more than likely seen him live, in person, close up more than any other...especially behind the lens of a camera where I have the opportunity to see things from an entirely different perspective. The kid is full of himself. I have attended at least 7 games a year over the course of his career, I have been to training camps, pre-season and I am always at least 5 rows from the field on the Redskins sidelines or end zone where I see warm-ups before games and him on the sidelines "hamming it up regularly."

I have pretty good insight to support the same assertion I made about his play when he was at Baylor. He plays too hard and will get hurt in this league. He is arrogant. But I was excoriated for suggesting otherwise. Just tired of defending myself when I have been right about this kid all along.

First off, other than Rodgers, a little, those guys CAN'T look like they're playing with reckless abandon. Their physical inabilities forced them to use other talents. And, BTW, Tom suffered his blown knee, in the pocket. Not being reckless. Peyton's career almost ended, in the pocket. Not being reckless. Aaron Rodgers was able to ride the pine for years, likely tempering his recklessness, and he's had a number of injuries. Though none severe. Unless the concussions keep coming. Injuries happen. Regardless of how much reckless abandon a player plays with.

In a country filled with narcissists, I don't see him as being worthy of the extra scrutiny he gets for being like most people. Some people are just better at putting up their fronts. Tom, Peyton, and Aaron may be better with their public persona, but make no mistake, they are as full of themselves, and their abilities as anyone. And whether your live attendance gives you any more insight, or not, than others, is impossible discern.

You've already closed the book on what he is, or ever will be. I don't find anything wrong with holding on to some optimism about the kid until the song plays out. And, I'm arrogant. And I believe you stated earlier, with some pride, that you are arrogant. So what? It's not fatal.

And when you take every opportunity to bad mouth his play and/or personality, followed with an "I told you so", you should expect the blowback.
I know, for myself, I feel like I'm not attacking you, personally. Just the idea.

You're one of my favs here. Due in no small part, to your Griffin-like confident arrogance. ;)

If they are wearing the burgundy (love that color!) and gold, then they have my full 100% support. And I will never apologize for being a homer. In BBQ, I try to keep it much more objective, but it is not above reproach. Check the most recent entries there. I have no issues with it. Keep it medium, you know.
