Random Commanders Thoughts

Boone- To me the "guy with zero NFL head coaching experience" is exactly what makes this different. Coughlin had a resume that aids greatly in being given time during tough seasons.

This job is a CRAZY one. High profile, high pressure, substandard organizational leadership, etc. Gruden is completely over his head for this place. Probably a fun guy to have a beer with (if he doesn't call your wife if you happen to glance in the direction of another female) but woefully unprepared for our shit show.

I hear what you're saying, but how do coaches get experience? You're right, this job is crazy. So is every other head coaching job in the league. Jim Harbaugh is in his 4th year, has been to 2 NFC Championship games and a Super Bowl, and they're talking about rumors that he's going to be shopped. I don't like how Gruden has handled some of the situations either, but he's been employed as an NFL head coach for less then 12 months. Players get a learning curve as rookies, coaches should too. He very well may be in over his head right now, but that doesn't mean he's incapable of getting better. Much like Griffin want us to be patient with his development, why does Gruden not get the same treatment?

I think Jay has taken on too much here.

He's a 1st HC in a very demanding situation.

He's also the playcaller.

He's also the QB coach.

That's too much for most guys to take on, let alone a rookie HC. The QBs are regressing here because there isn't a coach dedicated to working with them and making them better. You either have Jay working with them and he can't give them his full attention because he has other things going on. Or you have McVay working with them who is a 1st time OC and doesn't have time to dedicate soley to the QBs. Why we didn't hire a QB coach is beyond me.

Actually that has been an interesting point over the years. From what I have seen it is usually the middle of the road to good players that become coaches or insightful analysts, while the number of star players that fit that role has been limited.

Deion Sanders was the best cornerback I have seen, but I wouldn't hire him to be a coach. And to me his game analysis is not all that interesting or enlightening.

Cooley was a solid player in the NFL. He was a starter for 8 years on the club.

His analysis seems well-based and for the most part logical when you think about how unprepared these players seem to be week to week.

The comments that the team is practicing hard and executing/understanding the game plan is controverted by what we have seen.

Bill Walsh used to say you play as you practice.

So, I don't agree M-SAT everything is fine and then it becomes a mess on Sunday.

This is beginning to remind me more and more of Spurrier's second season where anarchy reigned.

He doesn't have leadership. He's done here. He can't get by without it, the organization is too dysfunctional. He hs created strife and disunity thus far, and we are desperate for the opposite.

It doesn't mean he can't be successful somewhere else, but I really don't believe he can be successful here.

Out for Sunday: meriweather, Keenan Robinson, Roy Helu

I'm fairly indifferent on Meriweather but I am not happy with Robinson and Helu both being inactive. Those two have been among the most likely to produce positive plays in recent games.

Why not? We don't have any idea what's going on behind closed doors. Publicly I've heard more then one player say they love the way he handles himself in the locker room. What strife and disunity? He benched Griffin. I don't agree with how he's spoken about Griffin in public, but I haven't heard any player, coach, owner, GM, assistant, ANYONE come out and voice a problem with him. Most people on a national scale who have looked at Griffins tape and broken it down, are saying the same thing as Gruden did. The mass majority of analysts say that Griffin cannot play QB in this league for a sustained amount of time. I heard Griffin was in the practice bubble punting the ball, running after it, punting again at the end of practice last week. THAT does not scream civil unrest based on Griffin.

I get that he's struggling. I get that the playcalling has been suspect and that the fake punt was comical. What I don't get is how Gruden is being blamed for Drama when he's been honest and stuck to what he's said. Schefter reported Griffin could start this year, Reid reported that Gruden was done with Griffin, neither of which used any direct quotes... so they were reporting on opinion and 'anonymous sources.' While he's been openly critical, while also mentioning in almost every presser that he himself needs to get better, I haven't seen anything to lead me to believe he's lost his locker room, or even the support of the owner for that matter.

ST come on man. He's created a TON of drama with the public dressing down then apologizing and trying to back up and then going back to the public call out all in one week. That's drama defined in the football world. The whole I'm going to start reading tweets in the locker room is again bush league and creates drama. Then he does it to McCoy later. His Cooley sessions in and of themselves are drama inducing. He's given a lot of the sports "mediots" who thrive on gossip and drama fuel for their fodder.

Ok, so the media and fans are frustrated with what he says... but the team hasn't given up on him? The ownership hasn't given up on him. For all accounts that we can see GRIFFIN hasn't given up on him. That drama is seemingly gaining ground on message boards and on sportscenter, and until a player shows me they've given up on Gruden, then I can't really say he's caused any drama that negatively influences the football team.

Who really needs to believe in him?

24-0, at home, against the craptacular St. Louis Rams.

Not sure what else would be a better example of a team that's given up on a coach.

the same Rams that just held the Cardinals with the best record in football to 4 FGs last night?

Seriously?

The Cardinals are one of the best coached teams in the league. They have FAR less to work with at the QB spot than we do. They are down to Ryan Lindley (?) and the water boy at this point.

And they actually won that game. On the road. If we actually, you know, BEAT the Rams I don't think we'd be having this conversation.

Are you really suggesting the Redskins are not playing like a team that's mailing it in at this point?

I'm suggesting that I haven't seen drama coming OUT of the locker room. I'm seeing drama within the fanbase driven primarily by the media. I haven't seen a player speak out against Gruden. I dont like it anymore then anyone else does that were 3 - 10, but has Griffin, his dad, or anyone else come out to speak against Gruden? (Something we heard numerous times last year).

My whole point is that Gruden has come out publicly and said things, things that a lot of us didnt like to hear. We agree that we dont think it was the correct way to handle things. A lot of the drama and shocking material is not from the horses mouth. It's speculation pieces and flame throwing attempts by the Media. We're 3 - 10. IT SUCKS. I'm not happy about it. Something needs to change, but a lot of what Gruden has said has been correct. MULTIPLE analysts have said the same things about Griffin. I want Griffin to succeed, but bigger then Griffin, I want the Washington Redskins to succeed. Can we all agree that we dont really care WHO is at QB if they are the best option on the team?

I am done supporting this team for the season. I will watch the games only out of loyalty to the B&G but I no longer support Colt or Jay and the sooner they are both gone the happier I will be.

Ah. Well I guess I see Gruden's buffoonery and the fact that our 3-10 team has already packed it in as closely related. Maybe it's just a stunning coincidence.

I'm sorry but i'm not to the point yet. I wanna give him til after year 3 unless he takes a Wr in the first round of the upcoming draft. If he does that he's lost all credibility
