Who do you hire for Defensive Cooridinator?

I have to agree... at this point the personality is more important then the scheme. IMHO this organization needs to stop trying to piece a foundation together and start to build one. Bring in a guy who you believe in and let him build HIS system. Implement a system and bring in the personnel to fit it. These temporary bandaids are getting old and tiresome, and obviously not working.
 
Rex Ryan? Well, guess who is still a consultant for the Redskins? A gentlemen by the name of Joe Gibbs. Now, some you were saying something about a son of Buddy Ryan? Anyway, we don't need the circus.

Wade Phillips? Someone mentioned age? Jim Johnson coached to his dying day. Older coordinators have a chance at staying much longer than someone who is looking at the next HC gig. Yeah, Wade is a good choice.

Gregg Williams? The chances of him being offered a HC slot will probably never happen after the bounty thing. Who was the coordinator under Gibbs Part Deuce? He could be here for a long time and is known to us. Yeah, Gregg is a good choice.

Go with what you know. Trying to catch lightning in a bottle can pay dividends, but it can electrocute you as well. Let's go with what we know and get someone who could be around for the long haul.
 
Gre-double-G Williams may still feel spurned about not getting the HC gig here.

Would Williams even give us the time of day to set up a phone interview? I cant say I would if I was him. He's in a very good place right now, St Louis' defense is nothing to disregard. They are 5-7 but they appear to be trending in the right direction. They are one of those instances where a top 15 QB coming in could vault them into playoff contention.

I would like to see the 3-4 go away. Much easier to go back to a 4-3 than it was to try to assemble 3-4 personnel for this clownshow. Still think Kerrigan would be a beast the rest of the defensive guys? Who really cares?
 
One other thing...

Many of you are wondering if Haz is really going to be fired. Some of you (me included) could be guilty of overthinking.

If a coach is in his final year of a contract, the FO or owner usually extends him way before now. Have we heard of any contract extensions? A whisper? A hint?

We haven't heard a single word. He is gone in just a matter of weeks - most likely. No firing needed - just no contract renewal. The team will need to say nothing other than a search is on for a new defensive coordinator.
 
Gregg Williams is a solid DC but not a super one. And it doesn't matter because he hates Dan Snyder. He would never come back here at any price. And who can blame him - he spent years here waiting for his opportunity only to get passed over for Jim Zorn!

the way they were still coming after our QBs with 2 minutes left and shutting us out...no way. to me, that was a statement of F U to Snyder for dogging him the way he did.
 
Vis Fisher and Williams: what comes around...goes around. we have learned to be patient in DC for these sorts of things.
 
Lou Spanos or Kirk Olivadotti.

One is a Dick LeBeau disciple and the other is a young position coach who has been to a few team and gotten good compliments where ever he's been.

Yeah, even if he got past the anger he has for Snyder, why would he leave a DC job for another one? I certainly don't think he's getting fired.
 
Folks, another coordinator may get better performances out of this unit, but it is still woefully under-talented.

The Redskins lack youth on the DL and don't have enough speed/quickness in the back seven.

That's why it bothered me that when we drafted Murphy the knock on him was that he lacked an initial burst on the rush and needed to grow into his 250 pound frame at the next level.

Seems to me in Round 2 we should be choosing from among some top tier athletes and not guys that come in with those kinds of limitations.
 
I still say Ollivotti (sp) would be best choice. He's young, already on the team, knows current personnel. In addition that seems to be the strongest tier on our shitty unit.

Raheem hasn't done much IMHO, waaaay too many mistakes by our secondary since his tenure.

I'm sure Seattle's secondary coach, or another of the top D's have a position coach that's worth a look. Maybe someone who could come in and run the 'amoeba' style! Consists of no standard alignment and synchronized swimming pre-snap formations!

It doesn't seem we can get a decent pass rush without bringing the house. Regardless of the system that needs to get better.
 
While experience can be overrated, I do think the next DC here should have a track record of success.

Haslett has a long history in the league but it doesn't include many distinctive high points.

He has been mostly average to slightly below average.

Yet he stays when his boss Shanny goes?

It was Shanny that was in love with the 3-4 and what it could do in Pittsburgh and Baltimore.

But they never assembled the talent to run it effectively.

Here we are 5 years later with the same ideas and scheme but not the players.

Not sure if you guys saw how giddy Gregg Williams was at the end of the game, but you could see how much he wanted this win. It was definitely a statement. I hope Dan Snyder heard it.
 
Williams, Snyder, and Allen were yucking it up on the sidelines before the game like 3 long lost buddy's.

Forget the Williams talk anyway. He's under contract with the Rams, and they would not allow him to make a lateral move.

3 weeks ain't that long to wait before serious talk can take place, hopefully, about a replacement.
