Want feedback. RGIII.. am I being emotional, objective, both or totally wrong?

OK serv, semantics notwithstanding...Robert has done nothing to elevate this team beyond tremendous drama since his injury against Seattle...except in the bottom line.

so what. who else has?

so what. who else has?

So what? Really? He is the savior of the organization. He is Superman!

In all serioussness...if your QB is not elevating your team, then you are in trouble. Weren't you one of the people who kept saying that the QB is the most important position on the field? That we need a good general behind center?

So........if that was your argument then, why on earth would you ask "so what" when I say he has done nothing to elevate this team.

And your premise is wrong. Colt McCoy, for one and a half games, elevated this team over the Cowboys. Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! I know, it was limited sample size. Don't take that as me advocating for Colt McCoy...I hope I don't have to repeat myself, again. I know we have to let Robert play.

But...so what?

yea. so what? no one else on that offense is doing anything either. who else is "elevating" that offense? no one. no...DJax has moments....but he's not carrying the team. you're laying it all on one 20 something year olds feet when the reality is the whole offense eats it raw.

COlt McCoy. lmao. we won that game cuz the defense and coordinators experienced one magical moment of being on the same sheet for 4 quarters. my how standards have dropped. you're so wrapped around the axle with RG that you can't see McCoy...a LOSER by trade and record....had the singular virtue of simply not making mistakes. ooops...he did now....a big friggin one in a close game. let's rephrase. he delivered an alex smith like performance. "go out there son....we'll keep it simple. don't screw it up...that's all were asking." dallass, dysfunctional organization that it is....wasn't smart enough to exploit the situation. as noted in another post...that was the one game the entire season that the defense, who won that game, actually delivered when it mattered most. if the mindset is "can't be worse than Robert"...ok...not unreasonable. but who wants that? in some respects, I wish McCoy was starting against SF and Indy...so...just like with Cousins...we can get this fantasy vis a backup QB who has never had a winning season in the NFL and does not have the down-field arm strength to take advantage of DJax ...out of the way. what difference does it make right? we can focus on deciding if RG should be resigned or we can focus on deciding whether Colt or Cousins should be the starting QB for the 3-4 games they will survive before completely settling the issue that they lack the athletic abilities/talent to play a role for a playoff team.

you're playing the oldest game in the book my friend: the backup QB fantasy league.

Al, have you been paying attention to what I actually wrote? I clearly stated I am not advocating for Colt! Stop coming back to the idea that I want Colt to take over for Robert. Please read this carefully so you don't miss it like you appear to have missed it the 10 other times I wrote it. We have to stick it out with Robert. I don't want McCoy to start over Robert...it is not some fantasy I hold onto. I have repeatedly said it. This is one of those situations where you continue to argue your opposition as if the opposition holds onto an idea when you've been told otherwise. Read the text! I do not advocate starting Colt.

But for 6 quarters, the play from Colt McCoy elevated this team to 2 wins. You are correct, the defense played well. But if you could not see the entire offense was playing better than at any time this year during that game, you just aren't watching the same games I am. I was talking about Robert's lack of leadership...his inability to elevate this team. You said no one has and I gave you an example of someone who did. And You are the only one suggesting they ran a simple game plan for Colt. If you actually did listen to Cooley's breakdown of Robert, you would have heard that since Robert couldn't run his offense how he wanted in the Tampa game, Gruden came out in the 2nd half with a watered down version.

You suggested no one on this team has elevated the team and I gave you an example you are trying to ignore, willfully ignoring or are just not seeing.

So what? Robert needs to lead this team and for 2 years now he has been far from a leader. He needs to elevate the team!

El...I'm not ignoring it. Your argument is that because we won the Titan and Dallass games Coly McCoy "elevated" the team. that's your example. And my response is no he did not. They survived the Titans game and the defense won the Dallass game. My response is simply that Colt didn't lose those games....he didn't "elevate" anyone.

I bet there were 10 other guys in the huddle that would disagree with you. In fact, I think it highly contributed to the QB controversy we have been hearing about daily. Without Colt's play and leadership in the huddle and on field, our offense would have melted again, rather than be inspired to victory.

And don't interpret that to mean I am all for Colt being our starter. He gave the team the spark and life which had been sucked out of the players up to that point. As marginal as that may seem to some, it is huge for a 2 win team (up to that point).

It would be wise of everyone to take note of what this man is saying, regarding the topic of a QB's effect on a club winning or losing.
Because micks113 just happens to be the #1 overall leader in the Pick 'Em contest.
So clearly, he has a pretty good idea of what factors cause a team to win an NFL game.
So, if micks113 says that Colt McCoy "elevated" his team to victory......Then, Colt McCoy elevated the team to victory.

He's tied with "all favorites". Not to take away from his picks, just sayin.

And this makes me question your football acumen.

RGIII has a noticeable lack of pocket presence. Do NFL experts believe this is something that can be learned?

Keim: Yes. At some point those who are good pocket passers had to learn this as well; you're not born knowing how to operate in the pocket. The difference is guys like Peyton Manning enter the NFL more developed in this area because they've never been able to win with their legs. Therefore the learning in this area occurs before they reach the NFL. Quarterbacks like Griffin have to learn how to be pocket passers while developing in the NFL. It's not easy and not all get it, but, yes, you can improve. I've spoken with mobile quarterbacks such as Mark Brunell and Steve Young about their process of going from scrambling types to pocket passers. It can be done; it takes a few offseasons of hard work in this area and a strong understanding of how to read defenses and coverages and focus.

Can you suggest an example where a QB came into the league with poor mechanics, and was coached out of bad habits?

Keim: I'm sure there are definitely examples. But it's not just about mechanics; with Griffin, for example, at times his drops did not match the routes -- that's more of a repetition/focus issue. Other times it is his footwork. For him it's about getting used to operating in the pocket. There are plenty of examples where a quarterback has improved his mechanics in this area. This isn't the same thing, but I remember Brett Favre talking about how, in something like his third or fourth season, he finally asked a fellow quarterback what 'nickel' meant. He had no idea that it referred to a defense using five defensive backs. That's not poor mechanics, of course, but it's an indication of a learning curve. Ben Roethlisberger had to learn pocket mechanics, too. But sometimes it takes a lot of humbling to reach a certain point.

I'm surprised that he still thinks OLB is a big need, maybe bigger than O-line.

I know I'm probably alone on this board in thinking the O-line is adequate, and far from our biggest need, but I'm surprised to hear him put OLB near the top of the list.

He might be thinking value of a top ten choice.

Don't know how many O line guys coming out are top 10 first rounders but usually the game changers including elite types at OLB/DE go that early.

Assuming TW comes back strong, our top ten LT is covered for a few more, Licht is touted as being above average at C by some of these pundits, so G's and RT are up for grabs to improve. Worth a top ten there? Perhaps high 2nd or so for a stud O-liner, might be better if they go that way.

I'm with the mass mentality here that thinks we need help at O-Line... at least if we're going to get away from read-option, and move to a more 'traditional' style offense predicated less on misdirection and deception and more on an intermediate level passing game.

That being said, it's started coming out locally that the number of sacks that Griffin takes falls more on Griffin because he was literally taking the wrong drops for the playcall. A linemen blocking for a 3 step drop is going to be different then a 5 or a 7. If he's supposed to take a 3 step drop and the OLB or DE fires off, the tackles will ride his ass 8 yards behind the QB. If he's supposed to take a 3 and takes 5-7 the he's right in the line of fire and it makes the T look like he got destroyed on his assignment.

Hearing things like this are very damning. I still think we need a better line, no question there... but Griffin hasn't helped them any the last 2 years.

well...if I had a dollar for every meaningless "I bet....but don't have any idea" post on BGO....I'd be a rich man!!!!

Colt didn't lose the game...that was his singular virtue.

lmao at how precipitously standards can drop.

but I agree...the pick in the end had to elevate everyone on the team!

except that we have other evidence with different QBs from last year and this year that the QBs still get pressure and sacks. the point of no return for me was the Cleveland pre-season game: it was claear as all get out that that o-line cannot handle physically strong defensive lines. it's also clear from multiple games this year that that o-line can't handle quick DEs.

that o-line has been a passpro liability for years. strapped for resources, cap penalties, etc., the FO has focused on mid to upper tier skill players and the occasional over the hill lineman some other team chucked because they had passed their prime or were flawed.

has RG contributed to his own issues? certainly. sure wish the coaches would get things fixed and not pass all this happy horse**** that the players have to execute. it's about coaching, leadership, talent and will. players with good coaches and inspirational leadership execute.

that o-line SUCKS!!!!!

we need to find some coaches worth a crap who can teach these guys how to pass block. we have had one failure after the next.

Not disputing that the O-line needs addressing. Just saying Griffins inability to execute is a contributor... like you said.

not sure he meant exactly what you are inferring. but let's suppose you are right. I can agree with you...though I think what Kiem is quietly saying is that Trent Murphy is...at the very least....in the wrong position. if one were to keep stats on him you would see he's not really a force in pas rush....and while he is better at run protection...there have been some critical runs to his side this season. not sure what to make of murphy yet...as Keim is clearly implying...he's not an elite player and likely won't be a feared pass rusher. so where he fits in the grand scheme of things is an open question.

man I wish...as Boone has posted...that we had a stable system so we could consistently draft exactly the sort of players we need.

Chicken or egg buddy.. do you adapt your system to players, or set a system and bring players in accordingly?
