its obvious this was not done during game time. his jersey is pulled up and tucked in, and nobody is around him at all.

Great pics El. It looks like that large lens really paid off.

So the guy with a severe concussion history, who could be our MVP if healthy, is running around the field, catching balls, with everything but a helmet on.

Brilliant

It was relaxed drills. They all had there helmets off simply running through plays.

Good thing Shanny isn't running things anymore.

BTW, did I correctly read that Moses is second team LEFT tackle? This is cause to worry.

Yup, he was 2nd team LT all practice which concerns me too because Tyler Polumbus looked flat out BAD! Anyone hoping Typo might step up his game is in for bad news. I am about to do a little write up of what I saw today…lots of concerns and a few highlights.

You guys can call it shaking off the rust, but what I saw was a team that still lacks talent.

tr1...it's early. we're learning a new offense....Brady's been in the same system for what...15 yrs?

Hey, I'm not looking for miracles...I'm just looking for some improvement. I did read that a second string receiver had a good day, as did a second string qb, but what I've read so far sounds pretty much like the same team we had last year.

Thursday night could be ugly. NE's second string qb looked Brady-like today.

I'm not worried. new offense. new players. it'll take time to mesh. from what I heard...today was a good exercise....Skins weren't ready for the up-tempo offense of the Pats. I agree w/El that we might be short on the talent end of things...especially on defense.....but it's way too early to project.

Geez guys, you're going to start hyperventilating already - based on, what - an hour or two of a single practice?

Just relax. It's going to be alright. It really will be :)

It's starting earlier this year. Usually the sky doesn't fall until at least week 5

Well, everyone has a right to an opinion. I haven't seen a down, so I can't venture forth with an educated assessment. But I won't be surprised if we look as good Thursday night as we looked bad today. It's sooo early. One thing we forget is that our goal - for the team to look solid and flawless from day one, is not necessarily the coaching staff's goal, which is to evaluate guys and decide who makes this team. In other words, we may be seeing more of the guys the team isn't sure about than the ones they are sure about at this point - I don't know.

As for prognosticating, only thing I ask is that anyone predicting horrible things this year be as conscientious about coming back and confessing how wrong they were as they would be coming back to proclaim they saw it all coming from Training Camp :) I've put myself out there with my last blog entry. Believe me - if I'm proven horribly wrong and our offense isn't among the NFL's best in 2014, I'll gladly come back for my tar and feathering. Hell, i'll even bring the beer.

We all want good things to happen in 2014 - that's what I'm focused on!

On further note, I don't believe anyone has a worry about our WRs learning to come off the line or beating the press.

We have vets. Garçon, Jackson, Roberts and Moss have been doing it their entire careers. That's not even an issue.

Ok, I wasn't going to start a new thread for images and an assessment so I will put my observations here.

Call it sky falling, call it pessimism, call it whatever you want, but I heard the same **** last year when I said we'd be 6-10. I cannot stand it when people tell me that when I see something that concerns me, it's the sky falling. I am a die hard Redskins' fan and I have the right to be HONEST about what I see without being called chicken little.

There was a lot of BAD on the football field from the Washington Redskins! At times, they looked piss poor! Granted, they were playing the New England Patriots in their first action of the year against perennial AFC East Champions, but I left the field today concerned about a lot.

Before I get into the bad, I am going to discuss what I saw that I was pleased to see.

As I write this, I keep trying to figure out what player I wanted to mention first...and the one player that stood out most, who impressed me most, was Ryan Grant. He caught almost everything thrown his way. While running against the Pats defense, he was usually the 2nd or 3rd outlet for Griffin and was open most of the time. He ran his routes sharp and got separation consistently. This kid will be on the team and it may spell the end for Santana Moss because of the Andre Roberts signing. Grant is on the final day roster.

Kory Lichtensteiger...yup, I said it. As hard as I am on the OL, this guy looks totally different at center. He also looks like he bulked up a bit. He struggled some during full 11 on 11 drills, but he was going against Vince Wolfork. In the 1 on 1's against Wolfork, he held his ground. Totally surprised by this.

Trent Williams is a man among boys. He handled Chandler Jones like he was a pup. Speaking of handling Chandler Jones, Morgan Moses was pretty solid too. He made some mistakes, got burned a couple of times, but he was good...AND HUGE!!!

Peirre Garcon looks like he may be everything McD5 said he would be. Looked like he was still nursing the hamstring.

Robert Griffin does not seem to be hindered by the knee. He was cutting, planting sharply and plenty of burst coming out of the cuts...and he ran a lot due to the poor pass pro coming from the right side.

I can't stand Tom Brady, but seeing him in this setting, one cannot help but see how great he is. Robert Griffin was standing there in awe while Brady was running the offense. And that brings me to the bad...

Not only did Tom Brady make us look bad, but Ryan Mallette had a couple plays with the Pats 1st team and he did as well. Guys, our defense does not look good.

Defense? Sorry guys, I did not see much in the 11 on 11 drills that gives me much optimism. Murphy looks good, but he was handled rather easily by a solid Patriots OL. Rak got pressure, but it was the same thing with him. He gets up field quickly, but was shoved past the alert Tom Brady who stepped up as he felt the pressure.

Speaking of underwhelming, Robert Griffin looks healthy, but the kid lacks maturity. He does not practice like a pro, Brady was over there all about business until he had gotten things done, then he had fun, while Robert was all about goofing off between plays from the start of practice. I am all for having fun, but over the course of the last 3 years, I have been to quite a few Redskins' games and practices and it's more of the same with him. It's not just one practice. I understand he's 25, but I am tired of his antics. He has a lot to prove on the field and it didn't look like he was taking things seriously.

I will be surprised to see Aldrick Robinson on the final roster. He dropped a lot of passes, didn't get much separation unless in the open field and has Ryan Grant shining.

Tyler Polumbus got cremated during one on one drills with the Pats defense. He is as bad as it gets on Pass Protection, TERRIBLE. Too bad too because he gets push on run plays. That has to be why he is still starting.

Desean Jackson looked miserable all day. He appeared to be nursing some soreness...an Eagles fan bet me he would not start more than 6 games. Oh man,

Overall, we look like a talent deficient team...mostly on defense. While some of our OL looked good in isolated situations, our QB's were never comfortable in the pocket. The areas of concern for me before witnessing practice today, remain a concern.

That's a great report El. Thanks for taking the time to write it and for sharing the awesome pics.

As far as the defense goes, a lot of our hopes for improvement may ride on Hatcher bringing some heat. It may not be enough, but that's what I have to hope for.

Thanks for taking the time to do this - awesome photos and really appreciate the detailed write-up. We were 3-13 last year, and I don't think anyone is surprised at some of that assessment, particularly relative to a defense that has underwhelmed for what seems like forever. That being said - you saw a single practice. It doesn't mean you didn't see what you saw. I'm just saying it was ONE practice. I'd be open to the possibility that it doesn't define in totality the coming 2014 season :) Good to hear Moses did some good things. I think Murphy is going to be a huge pickup for us, but he is a rook and it'll take time for him to get his bearings and shine. But I think he will shine. And your friend the Philly fan? That's called wishful thinking - the Eagles will rue the day they let Jackson walk. Wait and see.

Only other major 'nit' I'd pick with you was the harsh criticism of Griffin's practice focus/work ethic. I'm guessing the only times you've even seen him practice were at Fan Appreciation Day or some of these Training Camp dog and pony shows (and that's mostly what the Patriots-Redskins joint 'practices' are - a treat for the fans who come out for a show). I suspect at the usual practices, Griffin is pretty serious and focused on his job - and I wouldn't read quite so much into a little clowning and fun at public events. I don't see Gruden putting up with a starting QB who's not serious about getting better - and all we've heard from his coaches is how committed he is and how hard he works. I think what you're talking about is more *perception* than maybe the reality. Just my opinion.

- you saw a single practice. It doesn't mean you didn't see what you saw. I'm just saying it was ONE practice.

I agree, but I was told the same thing last year..."It's one practice..."

Like I said, my concerns going in were not alleviated. My biggest concern on this football team is Robert Griffin. I am more concerned after seeing him today. I expected to see a serious, determined QB, what I saw was a kid.

Oh and I have one question for you guys...

Why is Tom Brady willing to wear the "brace" but Robert is not? Brady is how many years back from his injury and still wearing the brace?
