that's what we've heard... but like I said before, Hatcher/Porter essentially materialized out of nowhere. I hadn't heard EITHER one of those names tossed around until news broke that they had been signed/agreed to terms. I'm sure multiple players had been considered/courted but they were too expensive or determined they didn't want to come here for anything less then a blockbuster.
I'm with ya on one level. I get the push for good vibes, new regime, no Deions, the future holds nothing but promise, etc., etc. It's a nice place to be. Just the same.....I'm seeing other teams get better, faster. I think what we've done is add a bundle of ok players. good locker-room types. no real change agents.
This team is basically stuck whether by design or circumstance having to rely on the draft. that's a longer process. that's a process that easily becomes develop a player for 3 or 4 years and then watch em walk out the door for a big payoff. it has its downside as well.
I'm glad we held on to many of our quality players. that's a good thing. but after all the kvetching about the cap penalty these past two years...I'm looking at what's been accomplished - which as Ax points out is just on paper - and nothing really stands out to me. it's a wake-up call. I had been laboring under the impression that, whatever else, the previous regime had elevated the talent level through good drafts. what's going on now is a quiet reminder "nope....that was mostly smoke and mirrors."
bad day today due to other things. hope this all comes together as intended by some grand vision. at least, for the moment, one can relish the notion that the cowterds are lookin a whole lot worse than we are!
