Geathers is. 6'8 and 340. But he has been on 4-5 teams since being drafted.

Some of you guys are really, really negative. Just ****ing relax. None if us know how these pickups will turn out. If you're going to comment, let's try and have something more than 'this will probably be a disaster' to say.
 
Geathers ran the 40 in 4.98 at the 2010 combine. At 6'7 299.
 
We now have the two most athletic monsters in the NFL with Campbell and Geathers.

Now let's see if they can play football.0

if you're headed where I think you are H...yea....I'm not sizzled by any of this. it's fixing some areas - most especially depth - but, IMO, it's not creating the talent level needed to win. everything goes well...we draft a starter or two, but this is development. IMO, there's a better FO in the NFE about an hrs drive North.

seems to me we're looking at a 2-3 yr rebuild. that's ok. but FO ought to come clean and say so.

So far it looks, to me, like we've added one starter to our roster: Porter.

Maybe the LB we signed today. That's about it.

I'm not upset about it or thrilled or anything in between. This all may be part of some overall plan I don't know about, which is all fine. But we're not signing a bunch of starters right now. At least I hope we're not.
 
Roberts to me clearly beats out Robinson and Hankerson. We will probably draft a taller WR in May but I could see Andre starting here for awhile opposite Garçon.

How do they measure YAC by individual CB? That is a fishy stat to me.
 
You know something is askew when the Redskins OL is ranked #10 or 11 in some of these written evaluations.

Same ones that kept hyping Rocky McIntosh for years as an underrated talent at LB.

Free agents are free agents, Mike. Mediocre free agents need to 'gel' just as much as starters do. They just come a lot cheaper. :)

What we did in the 2000s was sign ok players to elite-level contracts. Over and over again. We'd let players we developed go for these overpriced replacements time and again so there was no gelling. On top of that, we replaced our coach every two or three years and the old free agents, if they ever did fit in the first place, wouldn't fit with the new guy, but we wouldn't be able to get rid of them because of their bloated contracts.

We don't seem to be doing any of that, so that's good. (Well, except for the new coach, but that can't be helped.) We are keeping our own guys like Orakpo and Riley and not panicking. But the fact remains this team needs a lot of starters on defense. Let's hope for a good draft.

I dont think we are rebuilding, I think we are tooling up and getting depth at a cheap rate. I think a good reason that we stunk it up so bad on D was 2 reasons:

1 - I think they were on the field too much. Players get tired and depth helps relieve that.
2 - they were sabotaged by Shan. We have heard the rumors and the way they dropped off from one year to the next is way too dramatic.

I dont think we are rebuilding..I think we are getting the best guys we can for the best deals we can. You never know, someone may step up and be a great player. Then Allen and Co. will look like geniuses for signing them so cheaply.

we can disagree! I get your frame of mind and I like It!!!! my temperment tends to ride a sine wave with this team.

I think they are elevating the talent level....but not enough. time will tell.

I do believe they are being outmaneuvered by the main competition in the NFE. it's not just are we getting better...but are we getting better relative to the other teams.

Well...vis development....somewhere along the line the story needs to be ironed out - if this team has a large talent deficit (as so many say) relative to the rest of the league, then it's in a rebuilding mode. if it has "lots of holes" as so many say, then it's in rebuilding mode.

either way...I think the real argument is the context for building a championship team these days. is it changing again? one thing that has caught my attention - yup, we in DC have been conditioned to respond negatively to expensive FA championships...with good reason. but the teams doing some of the biggest splurges these last few days are not the slouches of the NFL. some of them are quality franchises that have been winning. is the model changing again? if so, how and are we in synch? I don't know.

Analytics in sports is an exploding field. The stat I saw was from profootballfocus.com. I can't get too deep there though because it has a yearly cost to do so and I'm not that interested in it. For what it's worth, here is their quick post on the Porter signing-

A season in Denver disrupted by seizure issues was followed by a one-year stop in Oakland where Porter posted a -14.3 coverage grade as a 1000+ snap full-timer (to rank 106th of 110 in that area). In an odd note, the 27-year-old did manage to lead corners with 14 stops in the run game.

Not directed at you Henry, but I think most Skins fans were in denial last year. Shanny really left the cupboard pretty bare.

One great RB, one great WR, one great LT. Two good LBs. One QB that could have been great, and may still be, that he drove into the ground.

That's it.

And plenty of the stupidest comments we've seen since Vinny. "John Beck...I'll stake my reputation on it. I think Joshua Morgan can be a pro bowl WR."

Joshua Morgan will be serving french fries next season.

We literally had one of the stupidest coaches in the league here.

Now, it's repair time. Sign a bunch of solid players in FA, as opposed to one Byrd or Talib. Safety in numbers.

Then get three more starters in rounds 2, 3 and 4.

There's a ton to fix here. Including the fragile ego of our starting QB. We'll get there.

Hatcher doesn't have a whole load of wear on his tires despite age, and had 51 total pressures as full-time starter in 2013.

Now there's a starter for the next four years. That's an absolute home run if we get him. Don't quote me, but I believe he's only 26 too.

Edit: I'm off today. He's 31.

He's a young 31. He's getting a 4 year deal.
 
He can play, what, 11 sacks last season? But he is 31. That's not young by any stretch of the imagination.
