According to Elias, Gerrit Cole is the first pitcher in Major League history to defeat former Cy Young winners in his first two starts; Tim Lincecum and Zack Greinke.
 
I think my reputation is that of being a pretty good sport (if something of an instigator sometimes.) But generally speaking, I think you all know that I don't root for injuries to opposing players, or advocate doing something that isn't within the rules.

That being said, I am sick to damned death of Reds pitchers throwing at Pirates hitters; especially McCutchen. He gets drilled EVERY time we play them. Leake hit him tonight, and then Chapman threw high at Neil Walker in the 9th.

It's been going on for two years. Chapman hit Cutch high on the shoulder last year (and would have hit him in the face if not for his quick reaction.) Then the next day, Leake comes out and hits our leadoff batter, prompting warnings to both benches.

It's high time that a Red gets hit in the head, takes a line drive off the noggin, or flat gets his ass kicked by a charging batter. Dirty Dusty's boys need to pay with some extensive DL time. Period.

Shut out the Reds on Tuesday. Shut em out for 8 innings yesterday. Then Grilli blew his first save (25/26) and we went on to lost in 13. We're in the neighborhood of being one of the really, really good teams in MLB...just not quite there yet.
 
I'd just like to point out that Chris Davis is kind of silly. 2HRs & 5RBIs yesterday in a 13-2 stomping of Detroit.

M-V-P! M-V-P! M-V-P!
 
That's one of those experiences that make life what it is; taking your son to a game. I took my daughters to a Bucs game last year, and it was phenomenal. But there's something about dads and their boys at the ballpark that makes everything right with the world.
 
Opening day 2013 was one of the best games I ever attended...

15 games over .500, one of only two members of the .600 club, a third baseman with as many jacks as Ryan Zimmerman and Adam LaRoche combined, statistically the best staff in the game....need I go on, or just say....

RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER!!!

Like I said, we're 5 over vs. MIL and CHC. Take that out, and we're 11 over; 3 games better than the O's. And that's WITH the top three teams in baseball in our division.

I just wish we could trade out with the Braves and play that rag-tag buncha scrubs in the NL East.

In fact, using your logic, why don't you tell me why the Braves don't have the best record in baseball, seeing as they play in its weakest division.
 
LOL. The Braves are 44-33, only 3.5 games back of (apparently) the most important stat in baseball, the best record as of 6/24. They are doing just fine.

The Orioles are 2 games back of the division lead in the toughest division in baseball - anyone who says otherwise is a homer, sorry Jugs. Only division in baseball where everyone is above .500, and every team has a real shot at a wild card or the division outright.

But like I said on Facebook, there is no arguing with you about baseball...so I'm going to once again drop it. :)

Sure they are. But if division strength is the (apparently) most important thing in baseball, they should be the best. They're not. There's a reason for that. And you're deliberately avoiding said reason.

Again...I know it's June 24. That doesn't discount what's happened so far -- a few games from the HALFWAY point. If the Redskins had the #2 record after eight games, there's not a snowball's chance in hell you say "Yeah, but it's only Nov. 1," or "Yeah, but the Eagles are 2-6. Everyone in the NFC North is between 6-2 and 4-4."

Whatever you think is going to happen in the second half of the season is just an educated guess. I'm talking about what's actually happened. Again, just about to the halfway point.

Since you won't answer it the other way, maybe you'll answer it this way. How many more "points" do you get for a win in September than a win in May?

You have ONE team in the top 5. We have the top 3.

And the last week-and-a-half have made the Jays a legit contender? Up until then, you could have argued they were the biggest disappointment in baseball. The jury's WAY out on how good they actually are.

Because they aren't as good as they have been in the past? I never said division strength was the most important thing in baseball. So, maybe we can restart from a point that you aren't misrepresenting my argument. The actual talent on your team is slightly important as well. :)

You are kidding, right? Most Redskins fans had written them off last year before Griffin took them on a 7-game winning streak to go into the playoffs. Christ, most Redskins fans write them off if they go 0-2, lol.

Football is different anyway, you can't compare the two. One season has 162 games, the other has 16. There just is no comparing the importance of one game, or even half a season.

Since you won't answer it the other way, maybe you'll answer it this way. How many more "points" do you get for a win in September than a win in May?

A "W" is a "W," so they say - but a huge series win in September carries more 'Mo than a series win in June, I'll say that with confidence. Now that's obviously not a tangible stat, and obviously you need some wins in June to be in position to make it in September, but ask the Mets how important a huge division lead in July & August is. :)

Going back to football - most Redskins fans would agree that the NFC East is *usually* the best division in football, even though the winner generally is 10-6 or 9-7.

Contender for the division? Of course. They are 5 back with 80+ games to play. Contender for the title? I don't know if I'd go that far, but they are looking pretty good.
