No News, Is Bad News?

I agree that seems likely. To be fair however, that is complete conjecture. It may be that they know it is bad, but saw something on the initial MRI that confuses them, and they want to have all their ducks in a row before releasing the results.

Who knows?

Agree, its all conjecture & speculation at this point. I just don't see a silver-lining in this cloud of confusion.

For what it's worth, I personally think Kirk is better than people wanna give him credit for. However, that means retooling the offense around his skill sets. I think with a few improvements here and there along the line and TE, Kirk may be better than we all think.

I hate to say it but I think we will know one way or another next year... The bad thing is what happens if he turns out to be really good? What the hell do we do then?

Uh...win football games?
I meant when Griffin returns. Of course we are a long way from that happening, hopefully we do not have to cross that bridge.

I can't stand the waiting, I just want to know one way or the other. I wish I had not read Mikes FB post, it has been driving me crazy since I did....

Take this for what its worth, but this is a response from SB Nation's Medical Expert, Dr. Ali Mohamadi. He's an Endocrinologist though, so NOT an Ortho expert.

Dr. Ali: Recovery from combined ACL and LCL tears is a grueling and time-consuming process, and when you're dealing with a patient like Griffin with a prior history of an ACL reconstruction on the same knee, even moreso. The progression to physical activity is very slow to ensure that the grafts are sufficiently strong to endure motion and weightbearing. Typically, patients remain in a brace for at least 6 weeks, during which time they are advised not to fully bear weight on the affected leg and aren't allowed to fully bend the leg. Strength training and range of motion exercises progress slowly to a point where the patient has built up enough mobility and regained muscle to begin running, usually at 6 months after surgery. For most athletes, notwithstanding Adrian Peterson's amazing full recovery from ACL and MCL tears in about 9 months, many experts will tell you that it can take a full year for an athlete to feel like he or she is back to 100 percent function.

The added factor for Griffin is that he has a prior history of ACL reconstruction. For an athlete with no prior history of an ACL tear, the recovery is a daunting process to begin with and usually takes longer than for other knee ligaments. Studies show that while the risk of re-injury is about 5% among patients who have had ACL reconstruction, the risk for failure doubles after a second ACL repair, and this study didn't just look at athletes who endure the wear and tear that football players do. It doesn't mean Griffin shouldn't be able to play -- and play well -- after a second ACL reconstruction, but it does add a level of concern over the possibility that it could happen yet again.

An endocrinologist????

Lets see what the dentists out there think while we're at it.

Just passing along the article. Take it with as many grains of salt as you so desire. :)

I think what this means is the end of the zone read, at least as the team ran it in 2012.

Kirk Cousins is likely the starting qb for the entire offseason, including camp and the preseason.

That means a traditional offense with the Shanahan-Plummer bootleg as a counter to his pocket passing.

When Griffin comes back my guess is THAT is the offense he will inherit and run for this team.

Probably when his cleat stuck in that **** that passes for the field at FedEx.
I've heard a lot of people saying this, but you can get just as hurt on any surface. More injuries happen on tuf than sloppy fields, and more severe ones too, and they're supposed to be the "perfect" field. Blaming the field for his injury is being upset and trying to find a reason in my opinion. The blame is split 50/50 between Griffin and Shanny, regardless of what caused it.

Dr. Andrews said that the field conditions at FedEx had nothing to do with the injury.

An endocrinologist????

Lets see what the dentists out there think while we're at it.

In Virginia Beach, we lived next door to a dermatologist and he was a trusted family friend. During my junior year in HS, I separated my shoulder in a FB game (I knew something was wrong after the play, but it popped back into place instantly and I continued to play in the game). That night, the pain continued to get worse and it was a sleepless night.

The next morning, our beloved neighbor came over to take a look and he quickly diagnosed it correctly. We went to the ER and to make the story a bit shorter, his diagnosis was very helpful. Yes, he specialized in something far different than orthopedics, but like most doctors in specialized fields, they know the basics quite well.

No, it doesn't make them a specialist in another field of medicine. However, they know enough to provide some insight and help.

All due respect to your personal experience, but an endocrinologist is not qualified to speak in any detail about a complex ortho injury. He's just not.

Speak? Yes. Perform duties? No.

I'm a meteorologist and my specialties are tropical systems and oceanic storms. I can speak about other types of weather with a certain measure of authority, but can't claim to be an expert to the point of being a specialist in said categories.

Emotions are running high and we're all a bit testy. Things will get better and it could be that we are reacting too early - i.e. without knowledge of what has truly happened. Think positive and hope for the best.

That sounds like Doug Conkwright. If not, the similarities are eerily similar. He was a very well respected Dermatologist that eventually got into sports medicine with his sons and their wrestling, then eventually "retired" as a general practice M.D. and was one of the best around for years. It was a sad day when insurance regulations forced him out, he was the best doctor I ever had.

Griffin has surgery scheduled this week to repair a torn LCL (partially?). While repairing the LCL, Dr. Andrews will determine just how much (if any) damage has been done to the ACL. So, Redskins Nation, we need to collectively cross our fingers, pray, send good vibes, dance a jig, whatever it is you do to make good things happen so that his ACL is okay, or only has very little damage.

Schefter and then the Post reported this nealry 40 minutes later, but the Redskins put out a statement that they will release the news at the appropriate time.

I am willing to bet my house that the surgery was today. They are just buying time to get their stories straight.
