NFL.com: Garcon has torn tendon in foot

I know Gomes got back in the game yesterday. Not sure how limited he was.

Garcon needs to be IR'd. It's not going to heal adequately for him to be as productive as he could be.

Mark my words, if he comes back after the bye and plays, the following week he'll sit again.

Yep. Not like his absence is making an enormous difference. When the injury was first announced, it was a bit vague, and I thought the guy needed to tough it out and play. But as more details have come out, I think it best for everyone to have him sit. Griff has a nice habit of making everyone look good.

why are our injuries always being re-diagnosed as something else?
why do we seem to have guys that can't get back on the field after an injury?
why do we have so many guys with lingering injuries that run for weeks?

i think it's time we start looking at our medical staff and/or trainers... there's an issue.

This is good news. I was worried that he might be done for the year.

The bad news? The more I read about the Fred Davis injury, the worse it becomes.

Many players never recover from that injury. He may be done.

Terrell Suggs came back this weekend from a torn achilles after only 6 months! That's ridonkulous.

Agreed. Shanahan said after Garcon was injured that it was a pain tolerance issue and now he may need tendon surgery?

Who are the doctors here, the Marx Brothers?

Ugh, this Garcon situation is really disconcerting. He was the one big free agent signing with the limited dollars they had available, and its looks increasingly likely that he won't play again this season. If he does play, it seems his effectiveness will be diminshed. He looked like he was going to be a difference maker in game 1, and has been out since.

Morgan hasn't produced the way it was anticipated, and the Davis injury adds insult to the proceedings. As I see the team right now, they have no #1 or #2 receiver, no receiving tight end, and no real threat of any kind other than the Qb. It goes without saying that we can expect defenses to just load up the box, and pound the crap out of Griffin and Morris all game long.

Morgan does seem to be improving in his contributions. Last week he had the key block on the 76 yard TD run. He seems to be getting open more, hanging on to balls, and he would have had a big TD yesterday if it wasn't for Dopey's penalty. If he stays healthy he could develop into a solid #2, and be a 3rd down guy getting the tough yards for the first down over the middle.
Of course, that could turn out to be wishful thinking or a slight exaggeration.

Morgan was a bad gamble for a team with little cap room.

He only played in 3 games last year and was coming off IR.

He was not a starter in SF when he went down.

So, how doe he end up counting $7.5M against the cap here in 2012?

Don't tell me Eric Winston would not have been a better choice given his health and the team's needs on a limited budget.

My only thought on this is that Kubiak must have had the inside scoop and sent it along to Kyle. Houston really thought a valuable RT was not worth the money they were paying him to have released him. On would think they could have traded him in a heart beat.

Did Shanahan really have that much faith in Brown?

As for the Garcon signing...I'm glad we made it, but is a he a true #1? Well, we can say for sure he is not even a #3 receiver this year.

Wait, this isn't a fair statment, El. Would you say this about Calvin Johnson if he were injured in the same way Garçon is currently? Or even any legit #2 in the league who was injured (which I happen to think Garçon has proven to be while at Indy)?

Yes Neo, it is fair. Injuries are part of the game. If Calvin Johnson was brought in here on a big contract and expected to produce, he would be in the same boat. If you're not on the field, you are not producing. That is why I stated, "this year."

Edit: Now, if Garcon goes out next year and has the type of numbers we expect from him70-80 catches with 8-10 TD's, will he have been worth it? If so, how? He is being paid an annual salary, this year he has not produced anything but a very exciting TD in one game and some knuckle headed plays in his one game back. It won't even out unless he has an All-Star year next year.

I have a hard time believing Garcon is going to be back and be 100% in 2 weeks if this guy has a torn tendon in his foot. This is new information, and if in fact it was released when they found out about it, that was within the last week or so, and torn tendons don't cont just fix themselves.

That being said, he needs to get this fixed. No hiding, no lying, no faking, just get it right. If its going to need surgery, do it now. If it's rest it needs, do it now. Whatever it is, do it now, don't dilly dally with it.

Tidbit from a tiny piece about Fletcher

Shanahan said that contrary to a newspaper report, wide receiver Pierre Garcon does not have a torn tendon in his injured toe, only inflammation. The receiver continues to be monitored.

Fletcher nursing hamstring strain
It's not torn, apparently.
