NFL.com: Garcon has torn tendon in foot

It's not torn, apparently.

dont know if i'm happy to hear this or not.. I've been hearing tear for the last couple days from multiple sources. While i want to believe Shanny, he's rather nondescript when it comes to the media.

I'm also a little concerned if it continues to be diagnosed as "inflammation" and they haven't figured out either why, or how to fix it. I guess time will tell, but another couple weeks is frustrating.

Oh well. We beat the Vikings without him. And unless he can play corner/safety, we came within a whisker of beating the vaGiants without him.

Somehow, I think we'll survive until he's ready. We have no other choice, but to.

Absolutely, but that doesn't mean we cant want him back. He's a home-run threat. He's got the ability to take just about every pass he touches to the house. We've got a bottom half passing offense at this point (largely because we have such a good rush offense) and a weapon on the outside can only help.

Agreed. But until we get him back, we have to hope the guys we have will get it done.

This offense, right now, ain't too damn shabby. ;)

oh i couldn't agree more... and as long as were the best rush offense in the game.. you wont hear any complaints from me... but call me greedy, i'd love to add that dimension on a consistent basis.

Why in hell the coaching staff is dragging their feet, and haven't put him on IR is beyond me.

A foot specialist diagnosed receiver Pierre Garcon with a plantar plate tear in his right foot Wednesday, a source said. His status will continue to be determined on a weekly basis

The plantar plate is a soft tissue structure that connects the base of the toe and the metatarsal, the long bone that goes to the toe. It cushions the bottom of the metatarsal head, which is why the tear causes Garcon significant pain when he pushes off and sprints.

That sucks. My wife had it. 1-3 months practically no walking, and wearing an orthotic when you do walk. He's done, IR him.

The only non surgical cure is not using your foot. The bad thing is, opting for surgery only improves recovery time by a week or two. Either way he's toast.

Hey, and i happy to see him go? Nope, but as i said before, quit dilly dallying with it. IR him and get someone else in here to help out. Get him healthy so when we are ready to make a consistent push, we have him.

Thanks for the good news.... Ugh.

Sorry man, I'm not happy either, but expected it.

Right on the nosey....

Sorry Pete, just seems like no good news lately as far as health. Next thing up is Fletch, then we get to see where the effing Jamallrat Brown situation stands.... what a year man, what a year. I was hoping the media was full of **** this time with Garcon, no such luck.

No worries brother, it has been a rough year, and yet we've been in every game, and that's something on a positive note. Garcon is a big loss in that we paid a bucket load, and aren't getting any return on the investment. Just a fluke injury that happen. The team has been productive enough for the most part without him. Productive enough to have won more then we have.

Even if Brown comes back strong, he's just a temporary fix IMO, and If we get most of next season out of him, I'll be grateful, not having to fill the spot sooner. I'm not holding my breath. Maybe one of our rookie class will develop sooner rather then later to help along the line.

With Fletcher, a hammy could keep him out a week or so, but the sudden dizzy spells, that's a huge question mark. He could have sustained numerous head injuries that were never known about, as early in his career the league wasn't so on top of it. At least, if nothing else, we have his eventual replacement already on the roster, and developing nicely.

Not many silver lining right now, but one huge on is, the team hasn't quit.

why are our injuries always being re-diagnosed as something else?
why do we seem to have guys that can't get back on the field after an injury?
why do we have so many guys with lingering injuries that run for weeks?

i think it's time we start looking at our medical staff and/or trainers... there's an issue.

because i need 10 characters

If this is a tear, and it's been a tear all along, and they're just finding out about it, then Shanahan & Co. are the most incompetent group this organization has ever employed.

Bar none.

Pierre Garcon diagnosed with plantar plate tear

A foot specialist diagnosed Redskins receiver Pierre Garcon with a plantar plate tear in his right foot on Wednesday, the Washington Times reported. Garcon remains a week-to-week decision to play.

"We don't know what's going to happen with Pierre," coach Mike Shanahan said. "I'm taking this day-by-day, listen to the doctors, see what they recommend, and obviously I'm not going to force somebody to play if the doctors don't think he is ready or Pierre doesn't feel like he's ready."

The plantar plate is the soft tissue that connects the base of the toe and the metatarsal. It works as a shock absorber for the metatarsal head. The injury causes pain when Garcon runs and sprints.

I still haven't seen/heard "tear" mentioned by anyone in the organization.

In fact, the only thing I've heard was a tidbit from a Fletcher article Pete posted in another thread (EDIT: possibly in this thread) about how Shanahan denied there was a tear...

Why? The coaching staff isn't responsible for diagnosing and treating injuries.

And it's not like this is their medical staff. This is the same staff we've had for a long time; I assume they're hired by Snyder.
