during warm ups cundiff was kicking it from 55 yards out with no problem.
now, thats with the little prop holding the ball; not during a game with a line, people trying to block, and an actual holder so who the hell knows what that means. i was surprised because i thought he didn't have a big leg, but he can certainly kick it 55+ during warm ups with out a problem.

i don't know what you heard on TV but when he missed that one... oh man, people were quite upset. lots of booing.

Crompton's spot is secured as well - on the waiver wire on Friday - so the "Rex roster spot" doesn't truly answer the question, IMO.
Not to mention the fact that Cousins is a lock for a roster spot, himself.

He's right though.

The fan base that goes to the game is 2/3 dumb/ignorant/rude.

That's not to confuse the regular fan base with the ones that go to the games. I have no idea what fraction of the entire fan base is dumb, but i'm not optimistic about it either

My question was, since Cooley chose to announce he'd been ****ed, er um, cut, yesterday, instead of waiting until friday, and knowing full well the Sexy is safe, would they have cut someone else to free up a roster spot for Crompton's temp-return. Or, would they have risked the Sexy playing last night?

The truth is that for veterans with declining skills teams like the Patriots, Steelers and Packers get rid of them a year ahead of time.

I doubt with the emergence of Davis in a similar situation in NE or PITT that he would have been brought back at all in 2012.

As to Cundiff, give me a break. He made 3 of 4 in a tune up game for the regular season.

Gano was never really tested in any of the preseason games with kicks so we have no idea if he would have made the kicks last night or not.

But what we do know is that Gano went from being the worst kicker percentage wise in the NFC in 2010 to being merely average last year.

That to me does not guarantee job security in the NFL.

People assumed because Rackers got cut that Gano had proven himself while inside the organization it may have merely confirmed to Shanahan that Rackers himself was done.

If we had just cut Adam Vinatieri and he had won 2 Super Bowls for us then you would have me singing another tune.

Never, Charley Casserly is still a douchebag in my mind for his handling of Art Monk. That'll never change.

No, Cooley was no Monk. So what? I liked him. I like him better than Fred Cannibus. I like him better than Niles "Stone Hands" Paul, so far. I like him better than Mike ****ing Shanahan too!

Not being a GM, I don't have to act like one. Or talk like one. Or rationalize like one. It's not my job. My job is to be a fan. Of which there are all types. No one better than the other. And if I want to criticize the coldness of the business side of football, I damn sure will.

Fans booing a new kicker for one miss is just bush league - particularly when he looked mostly solid. Lanky - the guy missed a kick last year that immediately made him scapegoat for those fans. You don't know what abuse Cundiff took there, and whatever attitude he displayed prior to getting cut - it may have been entirely understandable. You certainly don't have any particular expertise on what he experienced and 'I told you so' after 1 preseason game? Silly. Personally, I'd have kept Gano. But Cundiff is a redskin so why not support the guy until we actually have a legitimate reason not to?

I don't know Ax - if they're gonna act like uneducated Cowboy fans, maybe its an apt description . I didn't see or hear the interview so I won't judge the intent/seriousness of the comments. But again, this rejection of a player before he's even had a chance to unpack his carry on is harsh. Let's start with the idea that booing a guy at his first public performance (and overall a pretty good performance considering he's on a brand new team with a holder he just met) might be pretty ridiculous bush league fan behavior, instead of how the guy reacted to it.

Given that, Cundiff would have a lot better off saying something along the lines of, "yea, I heard the boos, I understand why the fans are upset, but there's not much I can do about that. What I can do is go out there, do my job and make lots of kicks, and make them forget about this whole situation". Instead, he chose the more inflammatory route.

Just not smart.

Huh? When did I say "I told you so" about his performance? I think you're confusing me with someone else. And he was referring to NFC East fans, not Baltimore fans with his comment...so that's kind of out of left field as well.

The Redskins FG teams have been awful for the past several years from inaccurate kickers to snappers that skimmed the ball along the turf to protection schemes that were easily broken down by opponents.

They got a new snapper in Sundberg after 2009 and are set to replace 30-40 percent of the ST units through regular attrition and the addition of younger draft picks and free agents.

So, why not the kicker as well?

Fans were hostile to Cundiff it seems the moment he took the field.

What I don't understand is why.

Gano has never been consistent here and has at times been the butt of abuse on Monday AM post-game shows for missing makeable shorter kicks.

So, there was no legend to replace here.

Neither Gano nor Cundiff is Adam Vinatieri.

All we are looking for is a guy that can make the reasonable kicks to win close games.
