The Peyton Manning discussion

While I know most of you feel differently, my money is on Miami. If Peyton signs there, it's a pretty sure bet Reggie Wayne will be joining him. Throwing to Marshall and Wayne with Reggie Bush in the mix would give the Dolfans a buzz they haven't had in quite a while. I think this happens within the next few days.

They had the exact same record as us last year, yet we're considered one of the Top 2 or 3 frontrunners in the Peyton Sweepstakes.
And they surely don't have more needs to fill than we do.

Well, I am of the opinion he doesn't sign in DC either. :)

The Jaguars have Gabbert. They'll go with him this year no matter what.

We have nothing. And an owner who collects old players with big names like tinker toys.

I think he ends up Miami. I am hoping that means that Cleveland is the front runner for Matt Flynn.

Yes I'm aware there's a Jags QB named Gabbert. And ?
You say it as if the name alone commands league-wide reverence.
He didn't exactly boost anyone's confidence last year, and there's talk of them drafting a QB #1, so why wouldn't they go after Peyton ?
It wouldn't cost them any picks, and they may be content to let Peyton tutor Gabbert for a couple years.

As for Snyder, he appears to be over that obsession with big name players, to a large degree.

If we sign him, I'll boycott every game. That would only demonstrate that nothing has changed. We don't need aging veterans who were once good or great. Particularly with such a huge question mark about his neck and his performance. No Thanks!!!!

No, I say it as if Gabbert were a first round pick last year. Rumors or no, no team is going to dump an investment like that after one year.

Maybe. Maybe not. We have gone one whole darn year without making a big offseason splash. But perhaps those outside of DC don't see a pattern of self-restraint yet.

The bottom line is the Jags have a prospect at QB whereas we have nothing at QB. We also have a reputation for pouncing on old vets whereas the Jags do not.

That is why our name is being thrown around but theirs isn't.

Well, Peyton is only a 2-3 year fix. Many are talking about signing Peyton & drafting someone like Tannehill to learn from him - why couldn't the Jags do the same thing with Gabbert? The Titans with Locker & The Vikings with Ponder, for that matter also.

(I still don't think he goes there, but its not because they have Gabbert on the roster. Gabbert would be the reason they wouldn't trade up for Griffin).

Look, you guys can think whatever you want. The fact is our name is out there and the Jags' name isn't. If you just want to pretend that's not the case, fine. :)

Well, I'm of the opinion he'll sign with a team who's name isn't "out there" anyway. Besides, Jason LaCanfora has put our name out there for Manning, which almost guarantees he WON'T sign in DC. :)

Once again, PM will be courted by the Redskins and it will come down to Miami and Washington. Not sure where this idea of Manning not wanting to be in the NFC-E started, but it is simply not true - never has been true.

No one in the league believes that. They think Manning has a short list but doesn't want to publicly admit it so he can maximize the inevitable bidding war.

One team official that contacted Manning's agent, Tom Condon, says he got the definite impression that Manning indeed has already decided where he wants to go, or, at least, the handful of teams truly in the mix. The official, who did not want to be identified, believes that Miami, Washington and Denver are the front-runners.

But the official conceded the front-runner will be the team that, in the end, offers the most guaranteed money.

The official believes that contrary to some reports, Manning is indeed open to playing in the NFC, even in the NFC East where his brother Eli, is obviously king of the division.

It's still early in the process but one thing is clear: the Manning derby is fully under way and, despite his public protestations, Manning likely already has a good idea of where he wants to go

why would a guy coming off of surgeries to his neck want to play for a team with Oline issues who play in the same division as the GIants Cowpies and fecals all of whom have very solid pass rushes? it doesnt make sense, but the Danny does have deep pockets and a silver tongue, I hope we dont sign Manning. Brees would be decent though lol

Fixed that for ya. :)

In all fairness, I despise when someone misquotes me and I would never do that to anyone at BGO. Humor or not, I have never liked it. It has the potential of taking someone's quote and turning them into something that isn't true. It was done to me at the other place and it painted me as a racist. I see it as a hurtful weapon. I simply and respectfully ask that this practice of humor stop with my thread entries.

Here are the facts though - the only time I have given a strong opinion on any QB coming here centers on RG3. The Manning stuff comes from reliable sources and all I'm doing is passing them along to this forum.

Apologies...quote removed. No intention of twisting your words, just giving you a hard time. :)

Word on the Twittersphere? Manning has told sources he's got no interest in coming to DC. And things get mysteriouser and mysteriouser....

We're fine - just a bit sensitive about it. You and I have no issues - unless you steal my cat or something. :biggrin2:

Ryman - The Oline at Indy was not as good as the Redskins over the last several seasons. Our running game simply proved this year. Not saying that our OLine is world beaters, but it is serviceable. It will get much better with a young RT.

Speaking of twitterville...

Seems like Cleveland tried to trade TWICE for Flynn - they didn't want him to hit the open market.
