The guy was a relative star QB in the NFL. We talk about him so disrespectfully, as if he had no idea what winning in the NFL took. I'm pretty sure he knew. I'm not saying he was going to be Joe Gibbs - but Gibbs had people calling for his firing early on. A lot of people.

Gibbs himself in his 2nd stint could barely eek out winning seasons with Snyder as the owner and with no GM to help guide him.

I'm just saying, the Zorn scorn, mostly based on some unfortunate word choices, is a little much.

if you are referring to me, I'm not really Scorny For Zorny. that was mostly kidding. as far as if he could've ever been a head coach? I dunno. he got put into a tough situation and lost credibility before he could even establish himself as a possible OC. Zorn is a victim.
 
This is the first time I wish I had access to the ES archives because I want to go and pull all the posts I wrote about how awful Jay was and post them here. I spent many hours coming up with extremely thoughtful, well reasoned clearly articulated points as to why Jay was actively bad at every job he's ever had since high school.

Fun fact, the high overlord banned me from talking about Jay on ES. Also fun fact, the high overlord can suck it.

I'll finish with, Jay stinks.

Didn't he win the Arena league championship several times?

He was definitely not bad at that.

Even though that is like being a badminton champion when your goal is winning Wimbledon.

What makes that bad is he would bench his QB at halftime and start playing himself.

Because he couldn't coach anybody to do anything ever.

He probably even sucked at tick tac toe, and doesn't know when the war of 1812 was fought.
 
Does anybody remember who the ES poster was who I bet a fancy steak dinner at a restaurant of their choice that Jay would NEVER win 10 games in a season as a head coach? And then we determined NEVER was too long, so we settled on 2030?

I think it was after the 2016 season.

I even think whoever it was conceded and offered to buy me a steak dinner after the 2018 season or something and I turned it down because the terms were the terms. I did think it was rather gracious of whoever it was.

And given the bet was made in jest, I have no intention or desire to collect. And there are still 5 more seasons to go, and I guess anything can happen, maybe Jay gets another opportunity and has learned something... who am I kidding, that's as unlikely as running into Taylor Swift at our local Walmart, but I would love to know who it was if anybody happens to remember (of if you want to self incriminate yourself. :p )

They were 2-2 pre bingo caller and finished 4-12. They didn't score more than 17 points until their 9th game of the season. They both sucked but the QB was a scrub. Also the 2008 draft receivers were all 💩. Portis was cooked as well averaging 3ypc most of the games until he got injured.

Jason Candle was bad his entire time with the Redskins. The first thing they did the next year was trade him for a 4th round pick. Unfortunately Doofus Dan thought McNabb was still a good QB. Apparently Shanahan didn't want him but he was supposed to have full control which was immediately proven to be a BS cover story.

It came out later Shanahan wanted Marc Bulger.

That seemed like a really bad play when it came out and I'm not entirely sure Bulger would have been any better. Look at his last few season:

And nobody signed him in 2010, and his career ended.
 
Yeah, Bulger wasn't signed by anybody. WTF was Shanahan thinking? STL was bad but he didn't even have average stats. He went from Pro Bowler in 06 to probably bottom QB in the league. I thought he wanted Hasselbeck, guess that wasn't the case. He wasn't much better 10.

I did a google search and the guy who came up was Bulger. I thought there was a think with another bad QB, like Delhomme or something like that also, but regardless, I remember hearing the story from Mike's perspective after he was fired and it was "I didn't want McNabb, I wasn't for the trade. I would have preferred Bulger, who would have been cheaper." And I thought, "you should have just made up somebody else who didn't suck donkey balls, because I would have taken a shot on McNabb before Bulger."

People forget, McNabb was actually coming off of a really good 2009. He went 10-4, 3550 yards, 22 TDs, 10 INTs and he made the pro-bowl. It wasn't clear he was completely and totally washed up. Reid knew. Reid probably was sick and tired of trying to fit an offense based on precision passing on a guy who had no discipline and poor timing also. Now he has Mahomes who can do everything McNabb did better AND can play in the structure of the offense. He hit pay dirt.
