3 jobs left, after what I believe was 7 or 8 total, and these names are still on the market. Obviously there is a restriction with the teams still playing, but i figured more teams would be holding out to see if they could land those guys... .maybe they've been told something we're not privvy to?

I seriously wonder who would have wanted to touch the Carolina job with a ten-foot pole outside of serious money being waved at them or it being their only real opportunity.

Canales worked with Baker Mayfield during his best season in 2023 so it's not surprising Carolina was looking for a coach to work with Bryce Young.

Also, I think Carolina finally got the message that the TOP coordinators were not going to come to the Panthers and they may have found a mid-range rated guy that can do the job.

With all of these jobs being filled, it appears Washington is now the undisputed #1 destination.

Seattle has no franchise quarterback and the way Pete Carroll was removed probably didn't sit well with NFL watchers.

Atlanta seems rudderless, caught between the trend in hot coordinators and going back to the winning records of older coaches like Belichick and Vrabel.

Pretty confident this was not Carolina's first choice. Canales may turn out to be great, but the Tepper thing has to be a major red flag for any top head coaching candidate.

As an agent I sure as hell wouldn't advise my client to take the job.

I think time is a factor as well.

The only thing that abhors a vacuum more than nature might be an NFL owner. It has always felt like the pressure to hire "someone" is greater than the pressure to hire the "right one".

Most owners don't seem to have the courage of their convictions in holding out against that pressure.

So, it looks like Belichick will be doing TV or other media in 2024 hoping to land with a team that falls flat on its face for re-hire in 2025.

He and Ron Rivera should get together once a week for coffee as a sort of support group for ex-coaches over 60 who just want to keep going on and on and on.............

He did it with Matt Ryan in his prime at QB, and Kyle Shanahan as OC, and offensive coaches named Mike McDaniel, Raheem Morris, and Matt Lefleur helping him. I don't know how much I attribute that season to Dan Quinn. Look at the seasons before and after his 2 good seasons in Atlanta and it's a very different picture.

Well, I mentioned previously that I think Harris is a 'process' guy. They likely set up the process in advance which would've been to do a series of interviews, identify the best candidates, and then repeat a series of interviews before making a group selection (based on a mix of consensus with final decision made jointly by Harris and Adam Peters).

They may well be set on Ben Johnson but are completing the process because that's the way Harris is determined to operate with consistency and by carefully and fully executing the plan. I think Harris is a planner and a process-driven guy and completely lacks the impulsivity that we got so accustomed to seeing with Snyder decisions.

He also needs to think a few moves ahead. And that means taking into account what happens if they don’t get Johnson or one of the other guys still in the playoffs. Johnson may take a different job or just stay in Detroit. You don’t know. So they have to keep all doors open until they get their man. So this does make sense.

I just hate hearing Quinn to DC.

Standig has retracted this tweet. This will be the 1st 'in-person' interview of Dan Quinn. The only previous interview was virtual.

I really don't think that Peters is going to hire Quinn.

And while Harris talked about a process let's face it, the leading GM candidate in the LEAGUE in the offseason was not going to come here unless he ultimately made the final call on who the HC is going to be.

Standig pulling that tweet about the third interview for Quinn now makes it look as if the team is doing its due diligence while they wait for Johnson to become available after Detroit's season ends.

Quinn has faced Washington a number of times in-division and probably knows Washington's personnel as well as anyone else in the league.

No doubt Washington is trying to pull insights out of Quinn that relate directly to who the team will keep and who will be shown the door.

And for Quinn, this is a good way to keep the pressure on Seattle to pull the trigger if they think another team may hire him.

Harris and Peters may be playing Chess when everyone else is playing Checkers too...

They could low-key be looking at Quinn for an Assistant HC / DC job. We're gonna need a DC, and having a guy in the building (especially if we hire Johnson / Slowick / Macdonald) who has been a HC would be huge given how 'young' the owner / GM / HC careers would be.
