Man - he is so young. I frankly feel he may not quite be ready for the leap to HC. But he seems to be the kind of guy who while he might struggle at the outset, is tenacious and determined and is going to work though it until he gets it figured out (like Gibbs did early on). He is clearly a smart guy. He’s probably my 2nd preference behind Johnson. He talks Harris and Peters-speak already, throwing out ‘alignment’ right out of the gate…

Comparison of what looks like the top 3 candidates-

Ben Johnson- 37 with 2 years as a coordinator

Bobby Slowik- 36 with 1 year as a coordinator

Mike Macdonald- 36 with 2 years as a coordinator

Macdonald continues to climb my intrigue, as he's routinely shoved it on the best offenses in the league, especially those that have spawned from the Mike Shanahan coaching tree... which has quickly become roughly 30% of the league, and the most postent offenses.

I agree. Harris and Peters are a better pair to work for than Dean Spanos or the post-Paul Allen family group in Seattle.

Harbaugh to the Chargers, so he's off the list (if he was ever on it).

That feels like a great fit to me. That team is going to be tough.

Talk about a coming culture change :) Give him a season and KC will no longer be the defacto division champion by default.

Atlanta and Seattle feel like they are looking for someone experienced (especially Atlanta with all the attention they are paying Bill and Vrabel).

Local media in Dallas seems to feel like Quinn is the leader for the Seattle gig but that might be because he has history up there.

Carolina might have to settle for a warm body due to Tepper.

I feel like Atlanta placed a bet on which team would conduct the most interviews and is damned determined to win it.

With Philly and Miami looking for new DCs and other HCs getting filled it looks like we might get last pick at filling out our staff.

I think Slowik might end up in Carolina. Vet coaches are going to be wary of Tepper unless he gives them full control. If they still think their QB is a future star, seeing what Slowik did with CJ Stroud is going to make him appealing.

I get the sense that it’s been Johnson they’ve wanted all along with the other interviews being more ‘due diligence’ than real competition for the job.

Any HC interviewee likely already has had conversations with the guys he wants to surround himself with. Of course it may or may not be completely Johnson’s call (or whoever is hired) on coordinators but they likely let him choose his staff and that has been in progress for awhile.

I hope so.

Are there any tampering restrictions when it comes to a prospective head coach talking to coaches under contract?

Given all the love Slowik’s seen this cycle he may wait it out for a better opportunity next year?

I don’t think you can tamper if you don’t have the authority to hire… you aren’t the HC yet.

Yeah, he may be too smart to want to work for Dave Tepper.

Johnson can use the 'Assistant Head Coach/Coordinator' title for a defensive coach if timing is an issue and we have to poach from another team.
