And I might swap Macdonald and Slowik - depending on which way the wind is blowing 5 minutes from now. Great arguments for both those guys. For the top 3: Johnson, Slowik, and Macdonald I feel like it's all going to come down to who Peters sees himself working best with and which guy is most aligned with his vision of how the org should be built and operated.

I went with Vrabel as I know he’s a good coach. Admittedly, I don’t know enough about most of these guys, but I’d be fine with any of them except Quinn and Morris. I’d rather have someone else give those guys their second chance.

As for Vrabel, I think the job he did in Tennessee was remarkable before this year. I think he’s a great coach and someone I’d like to see in DC.

Also, I’ve always thought Harbaugh was going to the guy, and I’d still be in favor of that. But after the Peters hiring, I just get the feeling he won’t be it. I don’t know why, but I just think that now.

The further along we get, I think the 'we've got grown-ups and professionals in the room' and seem to be adding more and more of them as the days go by, I'm not sure Jim Harbaugh fits that model. We're coming off 30 years of drama, and I suspect while they know Harbaugh might give them the best chance of winning soon, the chances of it working out long-term are probably not great.

Harbaugh has apparently agreed to an interview with the Chargers next week. That’s the only confirmed one that I have seen so far.

I went with Johnson. I seriously thought about Harbough but I ended up feeling he might not be a great fit here. I’m very much of a mind to just be a professional outfit with no drama.

To be direct about it - I have no clue who I want other than to say I think I prefer a head coach from the offensive side of the ball.

One thing I have not seen mentioned/considered anywhere - Slowick spent 6 years in San Francisco under Shannahan, working with Peters. The two of them have got to know each other fairly well.

I voted Ben Johnson, primarily because of 2 reasons:

1. He's an offensive guy who has called plays and made Goff look good, which I think is harder than it might appear.
2. His personality is more energetic than Slowik, and I worry Slowik as a HC might be another Norv. (That might be entirely unfair, we'll see.)

I want an offensive guy because if we're getting a QB at #2, I don't want the offense to change every year. Stroud might be on offense #2 in his second year. If you get a defensive coach, and things work, the OC gets a HC job, and you start over with another OC. If you're planning well, you promote somebody, but that's tough to predict.

I will say, I think Ben Johnson runs the ball too much at times and gets into a run-run-run-run-run rut especially when things are not going well, and they end up punting a lot and have a tough time coming back. That's been a theme in their losses.

However, in their wins, they run the ball effectively, and have an extremely dynamic, efficient offense.

So, something to keep an eye on. But I like Ben Johnson as the #1.

If you could guarantee OC stability, I'd probably go Vrabel who I think is an exceptional coach, or one of the Ravens guys at #2 behind Johnson.

I don't know enough about the prime candidates to get passionate about any of them, but I hope Harbough is not in the mix. There is too much drama and he seems like a guy just designed for a short shelf-life in the pros.

Yes. it seems like a bone-headed move to me. Plus, I don’t see Tennessee as a very highly attractive destination.

I like Johnson. He's young and with a new owner, a new GM, and possibly a new QB it makes sense to bring in someone who will be here for the long haul, who can help define this new team and establish its identity. If we assume this new front office will see some success, I want a decade or more of it. You're not getting that with a guy like Harbaugh.

Part of me thinks Slowik ought to be the pick, but it's for the worst reason. The best reason is that he just did a helluva job with a first round draft pick. The worst reason is that with all the amazing coaches that came out of the Washington-Shanahan coaching tree, it'd be a shame if we didn't get any of them.

Obviously, Johnson sounds good, too. I also like the Baltimore DC. As I've whined, I don't want a retread so no Belichik, no Vrabel, and no Harbaugh.

I don't know enough about the coordinators. How they command a room. How they can handle the giant increase in responsibilities. I have heard that Ben Johnson is not a wimp, so that did not disqualify him as my top pick. There are some great potential candidates here. The only one who makes me nervous is Harbaugh.

My decision really came down to some similar thoughts as others in here.

I don't want a retread from another organisation. I want a young up-and-comer that can make a name for himself rather than someone who just got fired.
I don't want any drama or controversy.
I want to go young.
I would prefer to run with someone with an Offensive background (I think we all know that we're drafting Williams or Maye at this point so I want someone who can groom and teach him.)

Mostly, I'd like sustained success with the same group hanging together for the future. It's been so long since we seem to have had all of the above at the same time.

I'm also really only going off what I read and see on the interwebs, and it seems like Johnson would be a really good fit.

Knightingale 's post made me realize that given the state of the roster and how much turnover we should expect to see... it's really hard to think in terms of fit.
