Running too much. That's a problem that I honestly wouldn't mind having

On a side note, glad you are posting more Voice_of_Reason - you're pretty great at it!

Somewhere between Gibbs I and now, I converted from a "run the ball, stop the run, win championships" to loving Andy Reid's style of offense, where he basically treats the running game as yesterday's leftover chili. I mean, he'll eat it (because he'll eat anything, let's be honest), but he'll eat it after a nice steak dinner.

Analytics show 2 things:
1. Throwing on first down leads to more first downs
2. Running on second and long is stupid.

So, I'm a convert. I like the running game as a complement to the pass game. But not the other way around. I'm fully a pass-first kinda guy now. That's not everybody's cup of tea, and I get that some of the best offenses in the NFL right now are more balanced or run heavy.

I was excited to get EB in here because I thought he would be able to get us out of the Scott Turner Run Run Pray offense. Sadly, he seemed to be in over his head and that was a pretty spectacular failure.

So, shrug.

PS: I enjoy posting here. It's fun. I'm going to keep at it.

EB had many things working against him.

1. Himself. He might have been his own worst enemy.
2. He was trying to implement one of the most complex, verbose offenses in a must win year with a 23 year old QB who'd played one game.
3. New system for everybody.
4. Completely horrendous FO who had a disastrous 2023 off-season.
5. A REALLY weak OL.
6. An actively bad coaching staff, including not really having any of "his guys" except the QB coach. They promoted an OL coach who'd never done it before.
7. Literally nobody who could help him.

I actually hope he gets a shot as an OC in a better situation somewhere else. I think he would actually do ok. Especially if he didn't have to do everything himself.

Well I think the Dallas defense underperformed all year against the better teams.

Schematically they couldn't stop the run in crucial situations and the soft zone coverages Quinn ran yesterday on a number of downs resulted in Green Bay's biggest chunk plays.

Dallas seemed to get less out of more while Detroit got more out of less overall.

So, I still think Johnson is a better candidate.

Washington just has bad luck. Why can't they get lucky and have a young coach in the organization develop into a top-drawer HC? 49ers were so lucky to have Shanahan, just like the Packers with LaFleur, the Rams with McVay and of course Miami with McDaniel. Why don't those kind of guys ever end up in DC?

I wonder if Bienemy is much like Daboll. Daboll seems to have been a great coordinator in Buffalo, but his temperament seems to have really sabotaged his efforts and team morale in New York. Maybe the super fiery coordinator is really good, but leads to problems when it comes to being the big cheese?

If Tomlin and Pittsburgh part ways ala Belichick and NE without compensation needed, we gotta at least kick the tires right?

Tomlin has the same issues though in regards to not being able to find the right quarterback. He inherited Roethlisberger but they haven't been able to find a capable starter since then.

He's a good motivator and gets 100% effort out of his players but his 'style' of playing defense and running the ball is a bit like Vrabel.

I'm sure the answer is in a thread someone, but it hasn't jumped out at me. What is the process for interviewing in season coaches? They can hold virtual interviews now while their team is in the playoffs, but we can't have an in-person until they are done for the year? Is there anything stopping from offering someone after a virtual interview?

I believe they can interview anyone (including face to face) as soon as the divisional playoff round is done - ie after this weekend.

According to an article on PFN I read this morning, teams can interview anyone virtually OR in-person after all Wildcard games are completed. They did pass a more stringent amendment to the rules to restrict in-person interviews for playoff teams until after the Divisional Playoff round but that change supposedly does not take effect until the next cycle. I have not been able to find specific rules on when teams can HIRE (or announce hiring) a new Head Coach.
