You Win With Picks

Good find, Lanky.

You suck. :)

Interesting: Of 39 SEA draft picks in last four years, 11 are starters. Of #Redskins' 34 draft picks last four years, only 6 starters.

Geez, you expect ESPN to blow these guys for the next 5 months. But here?

They just won the Super Snore, so everybody wants to ride their jock. Fine. A couple years ago, everybody was riding the Patriots jock.

So how is it that the Patriots, formerly awesome talent finders, missed on all the middle round gems that the Tucans found? They get stupid all of a sudden?

Ride the wave, blah blah blah. 2013 is now over. Seattle won't repeat.

Seattle will have trouble once all the contracts of that super cheap talent expire, which will happen largely all at once, but make no mistake, they found a lot super cheap talent. It ok to say we should too ... though in my opinion that's pretty obvious .

Actually, New England's depth was never on display MORE than this season. That team was held together with duck tape and spit. I thought Belichick deserved coach of the year for his efforts.

Can we talk about the Superbowl champs without being accused of fellatio? The Skins were really bad this year, Seadderall was really good, those are just facts.

No. If people want to fawn over the Tucan Sams, I assume they have their own website. :)

History has shown that no one gets lucky all the time. Regardless of how well some picks pan out, drafting is still more luck, than not. The Tucans have been lucky of late. So what?

Horse Hockey!

Remove Brady and they don't win 6 games.

That's unbelievably depressing. Your stance is that assembling a Super Bowl winning roster is based on luck? We've had shitty luck for the past twenty years, any chance some of that good juju will head East from Seattle?

Like when Matt Castle took over ;)
Well, first off, it's Cassel.:nana:

Second, I was talking about this year.

Third, the Cassel crutch has certainly carried Belicheat a good long way. Thanks for keeping the myth alive. ;)

Not exactly what I said.

I said, "Regardless of how well some picks pan out, drafting is still more luck, than not.". Not all luck. More luck. Which is the truth.
The later the pick, the more luck is involved. An indisputable fact.

It isn't just talent, guys. Sherman is a great corner in that system. He is built for it. Put him in our secondary, with our scheme and lack of pass rush, and average WR's would eat him for lunch.

Seattle has the balls to do what I have been begging for here for years. Draft big corners, put them right in the WR's face, ask them to jam guys hard at the line of scrimmage and bump them good in the first 5, then play coverage and let the chips fall where they may. It forces the QB, even Manning, to hang on to the ball for an extra second and makes those big uglies on the defensive line look even better.

It's funny, my reason for starting this thread was mostly to state my opinion that FANS here should look to how the Seahawks were assembled and stop in some cases dreaming that two or three big ticket free agent signings were going put us on firm ground going forward.

Does the recent experience of the Redskins organization of throwing dollars at free agents and their mostly underachieving their contracts have a part in my post?

Of course.

But since it is an indictment of personnel evaluators who are no longer here, it is historical not current.

In fact the one thing I am confident of is Allen will never let the team again set the market for players salaries. The deals for Laveranues Coles, Portis and most tragically Haynesworth are a thing of the past.

If you look at what he did in Tampa - rescuing a team with commitments to aging veterans that threatened to drown the cap, Allen has shown a frugal streak.

The Redskins may miss on some players but I don't see those misses costing us what previous misses did.

Which fans are those? Is anyone here screaming for big ticket free agents?

Seriously, who here is hoping we go back to the way we did things in 2003?

Finding Kearse and Baldwin isn't our problem. Anthony Armstrong was a guy like that. If there's one positional approach I wouldn't want to copy on the Seahawks, it would probably be WR.

Our problem is finding Sherman, Chancellor, Bryant, Mebane ...

Honestly, I think the best way to help Griffin is to make sure he knows he doesn't have to score every single time he gets the ball. Think about how slowly Wilson started in the Superbowl. Before Wilson had a chance to make a significant contribution the defense and special teams handed him two extra TDs. With an average defense and/or special teams Seattle's in a dogfight by the second quarter. I'd love to see Kaepernick or Wilson have to put a team on his shoulders every week the way Griffin and Newton have had to.

Better yet, I'd love to see Griffin not trying to win the game by himself every week. I think that would be really cool for a change. :)

This is the plain and simple truth. We all read tons of media on sports I'm sure; don't let it program you to believe that this sport is as one-dimensional as the writing. The writing says it's all about the Quarterback. Even now, in an article that starts out extolling the defense, I see this stupid line:

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/10398760/seattle-super-bowl-dominance-mean-nfl-emphasis-switches-back-defense said:
Seattle ahead 43-8 with six minutes remaining, the Super Bowl became Senior Night for the Hawks, as every active player got in for at least one snap. Of the 2012 Young Gun quarterbacks, Russell Wilson is now 28-9 with a ring, Andrew Luck is 23-12 with one playoff win, Ryan Tannehill is 15-17 and Robert Griffin III is 12-17.
Unbelievably ignorant, and honestly - it's the kind of stuff if you read enough, eventually if you're not careful, you will start making this simple association of "QB -> W/L record" which is just a horrible conclusion. I also laugh at the notion of the "franchise QB" - because now I hear that Russell Wilson and Colin Kaepernick are franchise QBs. Just like I laughed when people were talking about Kaep v. RG3 when the Skins played the 9ers. Absurd. Let's see what happens if those 2 QBs switched sides and left the rest of the teams intact.

The Seahawks are an amazingly well-constructed team. Hopefully the Skins can improve in that arena going forward. Obviously right now they have work to do, but an offseason with a new draft and FA decision making process awaits to start that process.

There's a reason why the 49ers matched up so much better with the Seahawks than the Broncos. Some people were saying that the game was an aberration and that the Broncos may have won it another day. That's true, but I'd say in general it is just a bad matchup for the Broncos. I picked the Seahawks to win, even though I was rooting for the Broncos (not a Pete Carroll fan).

It's the lines stupid

SF has good lines, Denver's OL without Clady and Koppen is average.

Manning bought them time during the season.
