As Dave Razzano said in the WP, Shanahan the GM doesn't provide Shanahan the Coach enough talent to win.
His moves in Year 1 on offense were poor for the most part.
You count McNabb but also the trade of a fairly high pick for Jammal Brown. Add in the acquisition of Beck who turned out to be the proverbial mouse that roared and the decision to start Joey Galloway for 7 weeks at age 39.

Why do we keep looking at LAST year when, if you take emotion out of it and look at it objectively, Shanahan obviously over estimated the talent that was on this team when he first came here??
Looking back on it, he could've compounded the problem by being stubborn and insisting that he could fix McNabb and Haynesworth.
That didn't happen. In fact, he got rid of those guys and actually got someone to give him draft picks in return! Imagine that?
And then proceeded to go in the total opposite direction on team construction around here: Trade down, multiple times, and stock pile picks and go with a youth movement that netted us 12 draft picks...which have all made the team.
We're finally heading in a direction that alot of us here have been waiting for...for many years and now we're going to complain about the guy who brought about that fundamental change??
Seems very strange indeed.
This is the most important offseason in Shanahan's tenure here coming up.
Can we at least see what he does with it before we burn him at the stake?
