Why Shanahan needs to go NOW

I totally agree. If it's December of 2012 and the Redskins are already eliminated from the playoffs, then I think Shanahan will be eliminated from his current job. Then you'll know who will be back!!!!!!!????? Cerrato!!!!!!!!!! NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shanahan has to get more time than that if we want this team and owner to be viewed as anything but an impatient laughing stock. Even if the team is in the tank next year too.

Although, I don't think it will be in the tank. This team is just a couple of FG's away from being 6-6 and in first place in the NFC East. They played the Eagles tight with Rex throwing 4 INT's and still only lost by 7 points (seriously think about that for a minute). They played the Jets tight for 55 minutes.

And all that without talking about how much the injuries have hurt us this year. Granted, that could happen any year.

With a QB who can hit the open man and cut the number of INT's just in half, this team could be 8-4 right now and that isn't a homer talking. Anyone who has watched the games has seen the same thing.

Yes, I am quoting the entire entry from Neo here and for three very good reasons.

First, we must give Coach Shanahan the full five years of his contract. If wants an extension, then give it to him. Why? It's simple. Mike Shanahan is Dan Snyder's last and only lifeline to being a respected owner in the NFL. We can argue until we're burgundy, gold, purple, and turquoise in the face, but without Mike Shanahan in town, Snyder would've had no respect after the Zorn debacle. Not to mention everything since his early days as an owner. I really think Dan Snyder gets it - finally. With that in mind, get used to seeing more of Coach Shanahan and GM Allen - and that is a good thing.

Second, Neo makes a great point about how close we are to being a good team. Not great, but good. Just a few plays and a bit of luck has the Redskins solidly in first place. With another respectable draft, a decent free agency, and better luck with injuries, the Redskins will fare far better in 2012. With that in mind, why would we want to ditch our HC???

Third, what happened to the patience that we were preaching just sixteen months ago??? Hello? Is this thing on? Seriously. This team was not meant to be turned around into a Super Bowl contender in just one or two seasons. As other players have mentioned, there has been a negative culture at Redskins Park for many seasons and it won't be cured with one offseason of draft picks and free agency. It will take another two years at the very least.

As I said in another thread just prior to the season opener, our beloved team will be 5-11 - but it will be a good 5-11. It looks like we will finish with that exact record or darn close to it. However, there are some good things that we see and the future is something that we can anticipate with excitement.

One other thing - we are drafting a QB early on. Get used to it. We will get it right - the class this year is the best ever. Yes, the best ever.

Don't be surprised if we are able to land Andrew Luck for a very decent price. The consolation prize would be RG3 - and he is 1A on the list.

Nah, I don't think Cerrato is back under any circumstance. Or I hope not! I mean he did only go to Baltimore for a job so he could be just biding his time. :puke:

And Neo is right, even with Rex's blunders, 2 missed FG's are the difference between 4-8 and us being in 1st place in the division...one missed FG in each Dallas game.

As Razzano said in the WP, Shanahan the GM doesn't give Shanahan the Head Coach enough talent to work with.

Whether the club was going to draft a qb in the future or not, few GMs would have left their teams with a qb depth chart featuring Grossman and Beck for an entire campaign.

grossman makes big plays one way or the other, but at this point im not sure we need that unless we really are trying to win a few more lol

Well, if we want to see what our young WRs have we need a guy who will throw it to them once in awhile. :)

How ironic it is that a coach like Shanahan that ran the ball in Denver and preached execution and no turnovers now has built one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL and has married himself to perhaps the prolific interception machine in history at qb.

I knew some smart ### was going to come along and post career numbers for Favre or Marino.

But these guys also threw TOUCHDOWNS!

Rex's comparative in re snaps to turnovers as a starter in just the few years he has been a starter must be off the charts.

Even in the win in Seattle he had two picks.

If you have been around long enough to remember Theismann, Jurgensen or even Brad Johnson with the Redskins you know this guy doesn't have what it takes.

Rex Grossman only looks decent because he stands next to John Beck on the sidelines and no one wants to see a repeat of that experiment.

These guys make Jason Campbell look damn attractive and that's saying something.

Only a fool would do so, because even with the top 10 INT machines in history, Rex still throws them at a higher frequency (1 in 26 attempts) than just about anyone to ever play other than Sammy Baugh (1 in 15 attempts).

Favre only threw one every 30 attempts, and Marino was 1 every 33 attempts, so Grossman is easily the least efficient QB of his generation.

This is probably the only blog in NFL history were Marino, Favre and Grossman have been mentioned in the same post.

Man, Grossman is terrible, we all know this. Why do you keep finding different ways to repeat it in every thread? HE SUCKS, we all know this. Find me one post in which someone is saying they WANT Grossman to be our QB next year, I challenge you.

Interceptions/attempt has nothing to do with his efficiency as a passer.

Also, not sure where you got your stats from, but there are plenty of QBs with a worse INT/attempt ratios (including Johnny U):

I can't imagine how any reasonable fan would even begin to think Shanny is finished building at Oline and Qb.

Almost as ironic as the fact that his offensive coordinator son completely abandons the run week in week out.

I personally think that the Skins need to keep shanahan, but he has had some serious head scratchers so far.

I know there are, and I didn't say he was the worst ever. I was speaking specifically about the top 10 career INT leaders, but going back I see my wording was messed up.

Among active players, nobody throws them at a higher rate than Rex. In fact, during Rex's career, only Tommy Maddox and Trent Dilfer threw them more often.
