I don't get it. I am watching the NFL Network pre-game and listening to these guys and I just don't get it. How many times do will I hear some talking head say of the Giants something like "I want to pick them and I know they are hot but I keep coming back to the fact that they have beat Brady and Belicheck".

And they say as though Coughlin and Eli have not just about owned Brady and Belicheck for the last several years. Am I the only one who thinks that Brady and Belicheck have to beat Coughlin and Eli?

This is why I have not turned on a sports channel or watched any NFL related except Redskins SB Highlights since the Giants beat the 49ers 2 weeks ago and why I will likely not watch the game. With Tom Brady and Bill Belichek you have a mythical illusion fostered by the media! Maybe illusion is too much, but the spectacle is overboard.

They fail to mention that the Ravens lost to the Patriots more so than the Pats beat the Ravens. And that the Giants are hot, or that Tom Coughlin has been one of the best coaches over the past 5 years!

With the Patriots in the Super Bowl, the mythical proportions of their grandeur is perpetuated excessively! Not entirely undeserving, but it is the same old story and I am tired of it!

Couple that with the likes of blow hards Bob Costas and Chris Collinsworth as commentators and even with the BGO crew chatting it up, I am going to pass on this year's event!

Well, we owned the Giants this year, but did that stop them from going to the Super Bowl ? History is completely irrelevant. I think it's ridiculous the way writers, commentators, etc always bring up a teams past record against the team they are playing, as if it was a crucial stat. Completely irrelevant, and a complete NON-factor. There's dozens of brand new factors, in a brand new game. And that's why they play it on the field.

If the Giants have been winning (and whining) against the Pats in the past - if anything, the pressure is on the Giants. Because of course, the Pats come in with a chip on their shoulder seeking revenge.

Speaking of not getting things, you know what I don't get ? All the hatred against Brady.

Fear, for me it is not so much a hatred for Tom Brady as it is a condemnation of the media. I know. I know. It's about sales and a story line, but over board is over board.

Tom Brady is likely the greatest QB to ever play the game. That doesn't stop the media love affair from being nauseating!
 
You're over-thinking it El. The NFL IS hype. The Super Bowl IS excess. It's no worse this year than it ever is. It's like a good movie - you have to suspend disbelief and take it for what it is.

So, you admit he's one of the greatest QB's ever, but seem surprised that he gets so much attention ? How can you logically expect anything different from the media ?
You should be more upset that people like Tony Romo gets as much media attention as he does, when he's done nothing to deserve that amount of attention.
 
In relation to tonight's game Joe Gibbs gives his analysis of the importance of pass protection for both New England and New York. He uses the AFC and NFC championship games as a basis for his analysis.

Pretty cool stuff.

Who said I was surprised? I was fully prepared for the onslaught of media love for him. That is exactly why I didn't tune in to any pre-Super Bowl media. It is just too much. Who said I expect anything different from the media? They are selling us their brand. Whatever sells! That's fine with me, just don't expect me to buy it!

As for Romo, if you've followed my posts in the past, you will see I have been outraged at the level of positive attention the entire Cowboys' organization. They've had one really good season and one pretty good season since their glory days but according to the media, they've done about as much as the Patriots in the past 10 years.

What a terrible superbowl - neither team deserved to be there. Pats had the 32nd ranked D in the league, and even that was good enough to beat the Redskins! Turrible!

I agree. found the game quite boring - kept switching between the game and a rerun of Apollo 13. Gints are first team to win a SB with 7 regular season losses! all this talk about Eli being a sure fire HoF'er is laughable.

This is what the NFL gets when it works to homogenize the talent across all 32 teams.

Before the season began, I predicted that the Redskins would go 5-11. You can't beat that prediction!

I really deserve the pick 'em title with that bold prognostication. :)
