Supply and demand, Nabors is the better prospect, but there are a lot of WR needy teams picking in the top 5

CLE, TEN and NYG could all go WR w Tate

If Bailey gets 5 sacks a year you’re going to be frustrated.

If Styles can’t break 70 tackles - same.

If Downs has a short career because of injury OR plays like Kam Curl the first few years without ball production even if he’s a stud, people will find it to be a wasted pick.

Trust the scouting, pick the best guy, and move on. It’s all a what if game

If all these top guy are underwealming then maybe Delane or Ioane is who we should be looking at.

Imagine that OL with Ioane, Tunsil, Linderbaum, Cosmi, and Conerly.

I like Tate' size and competitiveness but his 4.53 speed is a question mark at this point.

Is he really a guy to take at #7?

I am looking for a replacement for McLaurin after 2026 and that players needs to have down the field creds against fast NFL corners.

There is zero correlation between speed at the WR position and production. Zero. WR has the least correlation between measurables and production, actually.

(Fun fact: that’s technically not true, there is actually correlation to production at speeds faster than 4.3: it just happens to be negative correlation. But that’s obviously a quirk of the sample size being players who are mostly track stars first and football players second)

Anyways, like your RB post earlier, you’re posting things that “feel” correct but are factually incorrect by all measurable standards.

Ideally, I’d take Styles at #7. I don’t think he will be there, nor do I think Love will either. That leaves Downs for my pick (over Bain).

I went with Downs because we desperately need a difference maker on D in the middle. But if we do not land a legit top WR in free agency and Tate is there at 7, it would be a tough call.

Man it’s too bad that Jerry Rice ran a 4.55. He coulda really been something.

The risk of focusing on 'measureables' which has become a near-obsession with the increased focus on the NFL Combine, is that GMs and scouts get hyperfocused on everything except the most important factor - how good a football player is a prospect? In a vacuum, being able to leap, push, run, and move faster, higher, and better than your peers is a plus. But it's not nearly as predictive of success as actual past performance. I think that's especially true at skill positions like WR where there is a real art to knowing how to get open, run precise routes, and reel in passes. Speed never hurts but it should not in and of itself dramatically boost someone's draft stock. But we see that happen a lot.

Given what we saw from this defense last season, it was embarrassing and not even competitive, I'm shocked at the early results of this poll.

Are you shocked because the RB is getting so much love (pun intended)?

I'm a little surprised that Tate and Styles aren't getting more support, and that none of the edge rushers seem to be preferred, but I think folks are voting BPA for the most part, and the edges are rarely characterized as that, but are more 'positional value' picks.

FWIW, recent mock on the Athletic, had Washington taking Bain at 7 with Love and Tate, both still available.

Yes, we all realize the D needs help. But Love is just special. There are no weaknesses in his game. Brings badly needed star power to the franchise, and with his running and receiving prowess will be a huge boost to Jayden’s development. If he somehow falls, he will easily be the BPA. If he’s gone, then by all means give me a defensive stud like downs or styles.

I went Love on the poll for the simple reason that I want AP to go get us some defense from FA so we have a more known commodity as we rebuild the defense. And hands down I think JD needs better support and Love brings that.

Mansoor Delane. High football IQ, played in the SEC West, local guy. He is almost a guaranteed NFL starting CB

Not going to grab a lot of picks, but he he is not going to be the reason Dak moved the chains at 3rd and 8 for the the fourth time in drive. I am so tired of seeing that kind of stuff.

I don’t think the Vikes had any real good corners. The fans seem to always want them to draft one early. I guess my point is they still had a great defense without a top corner. I wouldn’t totally rule it out but I can’t see it happening at 7.

Based on who we have signed in free agency I would imagine we will need to use #7 on a skill player for the offense to help Daniels.

So, to me that puts Love and Tate in play.

Byron Murphy was a Pro Bowl corner for them. That being said, I don't see us going corner at 7.

  • Performance & Role: Primarily served as a starting cornerback for the Vikings, often playing in the slot. He was noted to have struggled in coverage at times, finishing with a 49.3 PFF slot coverage grade.
He’s a good corner. So is Trey Amos

Some interesting back and forth between Josh Norris and Mark Bullock on Twitter/X

Of course we did sign White after this exchange at RB which gives us some additional depth there.

We also have the #71 pick to take a running back if we go EDGE or WR at #7.

That's usually an area of the draft where good RBs are often found.
