Who do you want ? Rex or Pat ?

Assuming we keep 3 QB's, and #3 is currently on our roster, who do you want ?

Grossman is awful, White is not much better. Dear God, please keep Griffin and Cousins healthy!

To be an effective read option QB, you have to be able to threaten a defense with the pass.

By all accounts--as well as limited observation in the preseason--White is severely limited as a passer. NFL DCoordinators will know and have accounted for that far better than we can. The plan going in would be to sell out to stop the run, and press the receivers, simply not allowing White to dink and dunk as he's done in preseason. They would force him to beat them with the pass.

I agree that the IDEA of having a legit read option QB on board as a backup, long term, is preferrable to the IDEA of keeping a limited, inconsistent pocket passer like Rex around...but I just don't think Pat White is that guy.

To me, Rex, for all his infuriating limitations, is still the better 3rd string option for the 2013 Skins.

It'll be Sexy Rexy. Personally, I think having to choose between these two is like choosing between crabs and gonorrhea, but that's how it'll wind up.

I think once you get to your #3 Qb playing, your season is shot anyway.
And White probably isn't a developmental prospect for the future.
So the one thing he does offer us, in my limited pro knowledge, is he can either run the read-option for the scout team in practice, to give the defense a better scenario, or replace RG3 in practice, to give him a break and keep him healthy, and keep up the reps for the offense in read-option.
Not sure if that's feasible. Just an idea.
If people are willing to keep Rex simply as a QB/Coach, then why no keep White just for the reasons above ?
Is there really any evidence that Rex is a great tutor, and still is ? (meaning there's still valuable things left he can teach, a year-plus later ?

I have a hard time arguing with Boone's opinion on this one...
If Griffin and Cousins were unable to go I want Rex in over White. I think the 2013 redskins are significantly better than the 2011 redskins, so much so that I think Rex would be a better option than white.

But long term we might be able to turn white into a backup, making it easier to trade away cousins for something meaningful. That's a stretch, but it's possible.

We have to groom Cousin's replacement. I thought it would have been smart to draft another QB late this past draft, but maybe white is a better option.

We just don't have enough roster spots to do what would be best...

This is my opinion...if it comes down to Pat White vs. Rex Grossman, you're stuck between a rock and a sucky place anyway, so who really cares? I *do* think that in the short term, Rex Grossman could win more games at this level than Pat White, if because of nothing else he's been there before.

But if your season is shot, don't you want to win less games, rather than more games, so you can get a better draft pick ?
Then again, I guess it depends how long your #1 and #2 will be out of action.

Well I meant in the short term if Rex or Pat was only asked to start 3 or 4 games.

Problem is we don't have a #1 pick this year, so trying for higher pick doesn't help us.

There are many good arguments both ways here. Personally, if both Griff and Kirk went down in the middle of the playoff hunt, I'd prefer Rex and pray for the best. If both stay healthy, White would be my preference simply because he'd be a better scout team option and there might be something there for the future IF the read option is going to stick around for a while AND he can progress with his reads.

I would be shocked if Shanahan keeps White and even more shocked if another team DIDN'T claim him.

I'm not sure many here really know the past of Pat White. Living in Florida, and having seen John Beck for a few years, I was confident that John Beck was one of the worst signings we had made in ten years. Rex was so bad that people were calling for Beck to play. It was depressing knowing what was about to happen.

I like Pat White the person and story. But he can't throw. Literally, he can't throw anything beyond a slant. Miami fans despise him. Think of a faster Tim Tebow.

He was so bad in Miami that fans created a patwhitesucks website. I doubt it's still up, with his release years ago. You can kind of get a feel for it by googling "Pat White Sucks". Here is one item I just found:

What a surprise, Pat White sucks at QB... | IGN Boards

"The Dolphins drafted Pat White to run the Wildcat, but that doesn't mean White isn't expected to throw. And in practice, White has reportedly looked horrendous tossing the ball. In fact, he reportedly missed his receiver in practice and tossed the ball over the fence!

So, would you call White the "Black Beck" ?

If he had slower feet and a better arm he'd be more comparable to Tebow.

If his ability to read defenses was 10 times better, if his passes were 10 times sharper, and 10 times more accurate, and if he had thrown for about 44,000 more yards, and 300 more TD's, and had 8 Pro Bowls, 2 MVP's, and was a Super Bowl Champion 3 times, and was about a second slower in his 40-time, you could definitely compare Pat White to Tom Brady. :p
